nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 No Guerra? If not, the book on the Johan Santana trade has now officially been closed.
jorgenswest Verified Member Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 No Guerra? If not, the book on the Johan Santana trade has now officially been closed. The book should close when the control of all players involved ended. I think it closed following 2013 for Guerra and Gomez. At the time of the trade they had team control through that point. In this case, a good trade. A year of Santana (and the supplemental pick had they kept him and lost him to free agency) for 6 of Gomez. The failure was in recognizing and developing his talent.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 They could still bring Guerra back. I'm sure others will re-sign as well.
Rosterman Verified Member Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 It all depends on what they are offered to resign, too. Maybe the dollars are significantly greener for some players or positions elsewhere. I would've thought the Twins might've 40-manned Guerra. They still could, although he has burned thru at least two of his option years, if not three. These are guys that were told they weren't going to be added to the 40-man, but we still want you to develop with our organization. All except Hamburger will play at a higher level next year...Hamburger having to consider do I want to relieve or start, which won't be decided until spring training ends.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Nate Hanson has re-signed with the Twins this week.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Per Baseball America's Matt Eddy, the Twins have re-signed BJ Hermsen and James Beresford.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 According to Doogie (via twitter), the Twins have also re-signed IF/OF Eric Farris. I like this one. He's very versatile.
Kirby_waved_at_me Verified Member Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Have the Twins been connected to anyone else's minor-league Free agents? I no nothing about most of the available players, but the Phillies, for instance, recently added a small army of minor leaguers from outside their org (including familiar face Darin Mastroianni).
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Now that we've seen signings from elsewhere, I started a forum on minor league signings from other organizations: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/15984-minor-league-signings-2014-15/
Steven Buhr Verified Member Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Obviously, as my "adopted" prospect, I've always liked Beresford. That said, I'm a little torn to read he re-signed with the Twins. I thought maybe he'd have a better shot at getting an opportunity for a big league utility role with another organization. I'd imagine, though, that his agent tested the waters elsewhere and they determined the Twins remained James' best option at this time. Hope he has a great season.

It's really hard to imagine a world where the Twins aren't among the teams with the greatest need for a middle infielder, yet here we are. This must be in bizarro world.

I too thought he would have a better chance elsewhere. As far as I am concerned he has everything you need as a 2nd baseman except power. If he can improve his power numbers I think he is MLB bound.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Deolis Guerra signed with the Pirates.

Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 The Red Wings announced that the Twins have re-signed infielder Doug Bernier to a minor league contract. He was the Red Wings 2014 MVP. Here's a story I did after talking to him in spring training.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Per Matt Eddy of Baseball America, RHP Daniel Turpen has re-signed with the Twins. He spent the season last year in New Britain. He came to the Twins from the Rockies in the Kevin Slowey trade.

jokin Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 So I guess we can expect a Cy Young from him soon?! At a minimum, either ROY or Comeback Player of the Year.
Danchat Verified Member Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 I just read that the Pirates signed Deibinson Romero. Good luck to him, and maybe he'll finally get a chance in the bigs in 2015.

Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Dan Rohlfing returns for another season in the Twins organization. Yeah, he's included in the Twins Prospect Handbook because a 'source' let us know that he should be included again.
