  1. I respect your opinion as well. I think there is a difference. The innings difference from your example while slight is still a difference. So you go from full starts in MLB, to shorter starts in the minors, to the even shorter outings in your example. So from 5-6 innings to 2 innings? Does he stay stretched out? More than that it is a different mindset and preparation. They were carefully grooming what had been a valuable but fragile asset for a role as a full time starter. I think there is some nuance there that is critical. Of course just my two cents which I also offered in real time as well.
  2. Maybe, but is he suited to the bullpen role? Would jerking him back and forth mess up his development? I don't know. It didn't work with Dobnak. Yes Bailey is not Dobnak. The fact that for once the Twins had an abundance of starters at the beginning of the year should be seen as a positive. It should be hard for good players to make the big club. I don't see Bailey in the pen. He seems to take a while to get rolling. During his time early this year in AAA he was going shorter than he would've been able to with the Twins which did limit his innings some. I still think it was handled well. He has pitched less innings than Gray and Lopez, which was the goal.
  3. His innings pitched the last three year were 108, 72 and 139 this year. It is commonly thought that it takes years to build up a starter to a full work load. With that in mind he would not be limited next year if he can finish this year healthy, but maybe it's just too much to go from 72 to 180.
  4. He was the only one with options. How would you have handled that?
  5. I doubt this front office has the stomach to put a vet like Gallo on the street and they probably made some promises to him. I say this because if they were inclined to make this tough move, why in the hell didn't they do it already? This is obviously the most universally agreed upon frustration with Falvey and/or Levine. I'll bet Rocco shares our frustration, lol.
  6. It isn't mentioned that he was the 6th starter out of camp only because he was the only one with options, so while too bad for Bailey, that is a no-brainer. We saw last year how short starts are not good, lol. I don't see how they could've managed him any differently. In fact when he was going well and was pulled with about 80 pitches there were complaints. I would say the front office has done really well with their pitchers with injury histories. Duran pitched 16 innings 2 years ago and they get him through 2 full seasons healthy. Ober has been hurt year after year yet they got quite a bit from him this year with maybe more to come. If anything they could've shut him down earlier. There only thing I'm not clear on is why he got sent down instead of going on the IL.
  7. Julien and Wallner can adjust and break out of slumps. The question is will they? This is the same with any player, as they say it's hard to get to the bigs, but even harder to stay there. This will determine whether they are solid regulars or better going forward. One thing with Julien is he tends to take close pitches for strike three. Now this is tough. He has a good eye and being a rookie maybe isn't getting the calls he might get when more established. Does he keep doing what he is doing? Does he maybe adjust his 2 strike approach and just put those pitches in play?
  8. So if the Twins didn't sweep both series against Cleveland that's a fail, lol? With expectations like that you guarantee disappointment. Seems pointless.
  9. That is from February. Bo Naylor features prominently for example but has graduated. The draft etc.
  10. I hope you are right. This is why today's game is so important. I know this is ridiculous if you really want to win it all, but I don't want the second seed. I want 3 games at home against the worst wildcard. This gives us the best chance of breaking the streak. Of course winning it all is the ultimate, but that steak has to go or it will be doomsville, lol.
  11. I agree with the optimism if you look objectively at what this franchise has been since their run of division titles in the aughts. It's funny that I get more frustrated with this front office than the last. My expectations were so low. Mediocre budget left unspent. Trying hard to work up excitement over Nolasco, Hughes and Pelfry etc. Rooting on Gibby to just throw some strikes. The pitching prospects that were just suspects. It was all I knew. When the new regime was hired, I was more than ready. They checked so many boxes for me modernizing the overall organization immensely. Super excited. Since then there have been some down years and some trades that didn't work out, but here we are. The front office is spending to their market share even in down revenue years. They paid everyone during the pandemic. This has been the best sustained run since the aughts. I am one who does like Baldelli. I don't agree with everything they do. Many of Baldelli's in game moves, especially the strict platooning and early pinch hitting. But now that we have a little speed we are seeing some Small Baldelli with more safety squeezes than I've ever seen and more exciting baseball. I get super frustrated with hanging on to underperforming vets instead of trying hot young bats, but then Kepler's resurgence does somewhat vindicate their approach Gallo not withstanding. I am optimistic. Falvey and Baldelli were green as hell when this began. Their recent drafts have been really good and their player development has also improved. I think overall management has learned and improved. Now let's see if they can take the next step and become true contenders.
  12. The recent bullpen development of Varland is very exciting. We may have a weapon on our hands. Look what a smaller increase in velo has done for Pagan. All his pitches are more effective. Louie is a bulldog and will come out firing no matter the situation.
  13. Yes it's interesting. He's been hitting 100 in workouts for a year or so. When he doesn't have to pace himself to go 7 or more, he is one that has quite a bit in the tank. For his recent 4 inning relief outing he was throwing gas the first 2 innings, then settled back to his normal starter velocity of 95+ for the last 2.
  14. C'mon man, how's about one positive post? Just one. 85 pitches, 6 innings of 1 run ball. Only a few strikeouts and quite a bit of traffic against a lineup that doesn't strikeout. B+.
  15. Getting ahead of things, but hopefully the only pitchers used tonight are Lopez and Headrick. Winder only used 5 pitches last night so maybe him too.
  16. This is making me very happy! I'm releasing my grudge against Giolito and trending towards pity
  17. Beating a former Dirty Sox player and Cleveland at the same time is a 2 for 1 special!
  18. C'mon bats, let's chase Giolito in honor of the classy Kyle Farmer.
  19. Maybe kind of a 5½ game lead, you know with Cleveland having the tie breaker
