  1. Um, the FO left themselves in position to have Berrios y nada entering the off season. Um, We are now essentially sitting with the same team that got absolutely steam rolled in the playoffs minus Gibson with an at best even swap at backup catcher. Uh, A chief rival added an absolute stud to their rotation. Um, they misread the market early and failed to sign a second level pitcher before all the losers of the first level entered the competition to drive up prices. So, um, uh, yeah, based on the goal of winning a WS, this off season is is a failure to date so far, albeit with a little time left on the clock for a hail marry signing. If the goal is a 90 +/- 5 win team that gets pantsed in the 1st round of the playoffs.... then they are absolutely crushing it!
  2. Me thinks the price for Bumgarner just went up with the 245mil check that D.C just cut....we've waited too long to make moves....again....
  3. Agreed. Great signing for that price....Essentially no downside But if he "emerges as a No. 2 or even No. 1 caliber piece in the rotation" for the post season....we can anticipate very similar results to last year (perhaps even worse if NY and Boston improve their starting rotation). A team loaded with #3/4s and one #2 can do wonders in the regular season, but alas, not the post season. Currently we would be depending on one or two of our 3 starting pitcher prospects to go Full Liriano or Santana this year to provide any hope of making a post season dent.
  4. In a somewhat related story they also plan on extending their record setting streak of not having a playoff worthy SP rotation..... ...What?! Too soon?
  5. ......with visions of SP rotations packed with #3/4 starters, 90 win seasons, and 1st round playoff losses dancing through my head
  6. "We are in on everyone! We just missed!" Yaaaaawwwwwwwn.....(click)......I've seen this movie before too many times (it's too predictable and the payoff at the end isn't great)....I'm going to bed.
  7. "It is rumored that 13 teams are interested".....his agent leaked after reading somewhere that people more often believed made up odd numbers
  8. Great article and interesting discussion. My biggest issue is the Buxton extension of 4/32....Not that I wouldn't like that but there is (deep breath)... Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Way he signs for that (and his agent would be brought up for malpractice if he did)
  9. "If we're being honest with ourselves, the Minnesota Twins probably aren't going to go out and sign Gerrit Cole or Stephen Strasburg this winter." This is CORRECT....and also the explanation for why we absolutely CANNOT trade Balazovic!
  10. Ok, Ok, last one... I believe Arraez will NOT have a large regression. Plate discipline, intelligence and lack of holes in a swing go a long way toward combating regression..... 4 out of 5 arm-chair-scout/manager/GM/owners agree!
  11. Also, Cruz was a fantastic player and teammate this year. I expect him to be every bit as good of a teammate next year, but he cannot be expected to match the production he had this year with one more year of tread worn off the tires... Another obvious regression candidate to no fault of his own
  12. Yet another reason why pitching needs to be fortified if we expect to compete This team is not promised even 90s wins next year much less playoff success without aggressive moves to improve. Pohlads, What's in YOUR wallet?!
  13. I think he is special and will be "ready" by July 1 and then it will be up to the Twins' needs. I hope they keep Eddie, pass on Cron and rotate Sano/Garver/Cruz occasionally while "leaving the light on" for the K-Man to Komith
  14. Let us not forget that Gonsalves has a MAJOR problem with walks in the minors culminating with nearly a walk per inning (22 BB in 24 innings pitched) in the MLB in 2018.... After looking up advanced statistics a came up with this intricate formula: control problems + lowish velo = a pounding in MLB I certainly HOPE that Gonsalves is NOT a big part of our plans going forward (
  15. No....we need not over complicate things.... The priorities are: 1. Playoff worthy starting pitching 2. Playoff worthy starting pitching ...and wait...what am I forgetting....oh yeah! 3. Playoff worthy starting pitching
  16. Nice work Nick. Great read. I suspect he'll stay with the Twins because unfortunately no one will offer enough pitching to make it worth our while...second I would go with.... The Angels....always best to try to make deals with teams that feel urgency and they fit the mold...
  17. They had at least two starting pitchers better than Berrios for the playoffs. The FO and ownership need to write that on their blackboard at least 100 times before beginning the off season if they want to compete for a WS. It's really that simple
  18. Nope....move Sano to first already....time to embrace the inevitable...
  19. Trade value he'd bring back right now would likely not be worth it. Need to keep him and see what happens. Hopefully he tears up AAA out of the gates and then we can sell higher or sell an MLB to make room. Trading right now is selling low
  20. Dear FO, You need 2 starting pitchers better than Berrios and chances are ownership won't be able to find their wallet much less know what is in it Time to start figuring out which top ten prospects (or current outfielders) you are willing to trade for pitching. Love, Any Future Season Ticket Holders
  21. Dear Ownership Free Agency begins 5 days after the WS. You need 2 starting pitchers better than Berrios. Do you know what's in your wallet?! Love, Any Future Season Ticket Holders
  22. These are good thought in theory, but it matters how games are lost. The Twins are being overwhelmed in every aspect of the game....and I wouldn't count on the Yankees suddenly losing focus in the playoffs.
  23. Good thing that we saved Odo and Rodgers until the series was effectively over.... I think we can all agree that It is super important that they are really well rested for the games that will never be played!
  24. Dear FO, This playoff outcome was foretold to you by many when you chose to cling to your precious prospects instead of trading for pitching. We now tell you that history will repeat next year unless you change your ways. Love, Espousers of the Obvious
