  1. We need to modestly overpay in prospects for relief sooner rather than later. The 10ish more games between now and the deadline matter and Rogers is getting cooked alive in usage (not just usage but constant usage in high leverage situations sometimes for multiple innings). We need to try to win those 10 games AND prevent Rogers from breaking down. Suck it up and overpay a bit (it could be even more by the deadline)
  2. Dear Twins Front Office, Your "New Bullpen Market Efficiency" is not going to last a 162 game season plus playoffs I'm getting a little worn out. Please bring in some reinforcements. Much Love and Respect, Taylor Rogers
  3. Gordon now splitting time at short and second is likely part of the Twins showcasing him for a trade.... which is good....time to start bringing in reinforcements.....Cleveland is not going to roll over.
  4. Yep... I'd like to keep our young pitchers. For a trade scenario... if you wouldn't come away both excited AND a little sick to your stomach, it probably isn't realistic. I agree that likely both Lewis and Kirillof would be needed. But if the scouts say his stuff will play at 1a or 1b level right now.... I'd think looooong and haaaard about it.
  5. I understand the SSS argument and we can be fairly confident that he won't maintain his 0.529 OBP ?!! but I think he has a very LARGE sample size at this point at taking professional at bats at multiple levels of competition which makes me think that he will hit long term in the MLB. I would actually feel better about him in a playoff series than Sano.....I wish I didn't, and maybe it's not rational, but there I said it
  6. Should Arraez get a shot at lead off hitter? Seems like he takes good at bats and gets on base a ton.... He doesn't seem like he is one who gets overwhelmed by increased pressure...
  7. Yikes....that heat map....his entire swing is one big hole except for outside middle... I'm actually more worried now....and I didn't even think that was possible. Thanks Parker... consistently the most informative articles on the site!
  8. Let's not miss the forest through the trees.... His current plate approach is not consistent with an elite hitter which is what we all hope for. And in the playoffs, against more consistent elite pitching, he will be absolutely eviscerated with his current plate approach. Elite pitchers (and catchers who are calling the game) will be salivating when he come up for an at bat in a high leverage situation. A mental exercise....what do you think the chances are that he receives an intentional walk at ANY time in the playoffs?
  9. I think there is going to be a sellers market for relievers....We would be best served to strike early if possible because we will likely only have to over pay even more as there are fewer left.....and make no mistake about it, we will have to "overpay".... but now is the time!
  10. It has been a wet spring for the other players on the team who have been absolutely raking, so......
  11. And yes, historically, elite prospects have been able to crush A ball competition despite being multiple years under the average age (there are even examples making their way into the MLB this year!)
  12. Thanks for the great reporting SD Buhr!!! As I've stated a lot on this site since early May (to much consternation by authors and readers alike)....Lewis's performance IS concerning. Concern is not doubt.....concern is OK because it leads to thoughtful analysis and improved approach. But rolling out tired cliches about age, league and weather is not constructive....it is lazy. Blaming it on the ballparks and weather and league and age for that matter is just hogwash. Lets compare his numbers between last year AT AGE 19 in the SAME LEAGUE to this year (2018 vs 2019) Games: 46 vs. 62 OPS: 0.726 vs. 0,.606 Slugging: 0.399 vs. 0.325 OBP: 0.327 vs. 0.281 BB/SO: 19/35 vs. 19/61 (!!!!) HR: 5 vs 2 (more in less games in 2018) RBI: 21 vs. 17 (again more in less games) The organization does not need to admit concern to us, but they better be concerned enough to be actively working the issue. (because really even his numbers in the first 46 games of A ball last year were underwhelming giving us a total sample size of almost 100 games) He his a GREAT kid by all accounts, and very much has lots of time to "figure it out" but the Twins still need to identify and resolve the problems. And if it is the leg kick...I'm not a fan of wasting a year or more to "let him realize that it doesn't work so he is more receptive" A good teacher can get a point across to a good kid without requiring prolonged struggle
  13. Thing I'm actually most excited about from these box scores you ask? Rooker....taken them walks (he'll always hit home runs and strike out, but if he adds consistent walks to his repertoire.....a major leaguer he could be....
  14. Yikes...all 4 "top relievers" in A ball This article could also be titled: "Another Reason The Twins Need to Pay The Price For Relief Help"
  15. Relievers are volatile. Relievers are a gamble. Relievers are scary to sign. BUT... Relievers are very much needed to win a championship. Chances will need to be taken with some combination of money or prospects....if we want to take a real shot at the championship. Overpaying will be required when and if this chance is taken, because other competitive teams will also appreciate the need and drive the market. (and realize that by missing on a reliever they are likely not only failing to improve their team, but allowing the competition to get better....zero sum game) So ultimately the FO and ownership need to decide if they are all in or not. If they are all in, I hope overpaying was not the only reason that Kimbrel was not signed.....because being "shrewd" will not get them the relievers they need to push this team over the finish line.
  16. Awesome.....Just Awesome! If we are going to get serious in the post season we must get: 1. Another #2 starter or better (hopefully better,,, who can intimidate and inspire confidence in the whole team) 2. Two more established difference makers in the bullpen. (Hopefully 1 gas-man that intimidates in the post season by even lingering in the bullpen in wait) This is NOT to take anything away from what the current SP and RP have accomplished but obviously the post season is an entirely different animal and we'll need a bit more to get bast Houston/NY (and Boston will be back by the end)
  17. All impressive, but Blankenhorn is the most pleasant surprise this year!
  18. And Anotha One.... Those Damned Yankees....Wouldn't be grand if this was the team to shed that monkey in a high profile playoff series.....#leverageourprospectstogetanotherelitestarterandreliever
  19. Yes....We need another elite starter to be really competitive in the post season...I was secretly and maybe irrationally hoping that Graterol could be to Berrios what the surprise of Liriano was to Santana (albeit for only a season or so)
