  1. He is 20 years old. You can teach a change up (over a few years in fact and... if needed... perhaps in the show when he is effectively shortening games). I'm not sure that you can teach a 100 mph fastball or a 89 mph slider with a tight spin. Totally in on... and fired up for.... GAS-ER-OL,...
  2. "Control has been an issue for Gonsalves all along, and his wildness came to roost in Minnesota, where he issued 22 walks in 24 2/3 innings of work. In Triple-A his 13.4% BB-rate was the highest out of 35 pitchers to throw 100+ innings. When Gonsalves is outside of the zone, he doesn't really get people to chase, and when he's in the zone he doesn't really get people to miss." This. All of This. More of This. And, uh....This.
  3. Every time I see a picture or video of him, my desire to have him on the MLB team next year increases exponentially....or....irrationally....or both
  4. Thanks for the list Nick I gave you a hard time about your placement of Sano. But for the record, it was you I followed to TD
  5. Agree with all. Clemens and Bonds simply can never be let in. Yes, others likely got into the HOF having taken some PEDs (and yes, gulp, my childhood hero Kirby Puckett could very well have been one of them for reasons that I wish to ignore) But they were caught and there need to be consequences, because it's not like they will every have to give any of their 100s of millions of dollars back.
  6. Check that....after watching it a couple more minutes its up to the funniest this month and climbing.....just soooo many nuances to appreciate
  7. Actually a big Garver fan....and beyond frustrated with Sano....but alas... Sano is clearly still a MUCH more significant asset based on his "value to the franchise's current path and vision" Unless the "fanchise's current path and vision" does not include trying to win the WS. Come on man?!
  8. YES! YES! YES! (says the horse looking behind him for the missing cart)
  9. Dear Twins, I give Wilson Ramos a hard pass. I think your time will be better served by overpaying for a reliever with horrible sabermetrics that would pass my eye test. Call me if you are interested in any of my other recommendations. You can find me on my couch. Love Always, Bill Smith
  10. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ….. eh uh....Torreyes?!….zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…….ah huh....Schoop?!……..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz….agh, eh...….Cron?!….. I said wake me up when we do anything of consequence! How many Yankee entrails does that make in the last 2 years? We should rename our team the Minnesota Yankee Pilot Fishes
  11. Always a class act in every sense of the word, especially how he dealt with adversity over his contract after his quality of play was so clearly marginalized by injury. I suspect 15 year's worth of opposing players would back this statement. Having said that, make no mistake, he earned EVERY penny of the combined contracts over his career.... far less early and too much late. I suspect that the vast majority of MLB players would not have been able to be as productive for as long with post concussive symptoms (would have been out of baseball in less than 2 years) We were more lucky to have him than him us. Did I say 'were'? I meant 'are' so lucky to have him, because he will be a wonderful ambassador for the team in some capacity for decades to come.
  12. Thank you Joe Mauer. A consummate professional and generational catcher. What a treat to have a home town boy spend his entire career on the hometown professional team. Make no mistake about it. He earned EVERY PENNY he received for his play alone. Too little early and too much late. And that does not even account for how many tickets he sold. He was not a natural born leader, but remember, few people are. He never tired to be someone that he wasn't. I'm in the minority that thinks he'll get to the HOF eventually. His prime catcher years were singular in baseball history. Also, as we learn more and more about brain injury over the next decade, his accomplishments will also be better appreciated. Enjoy retirement Joe!!!!
  13. If someone came back in time to present the title of the article to you in April, you would automatically know that the season was going to go to S---
  14. The Gimenez Paradox: Gimenez on the roster to provide 'veteran leadership', but his presence on the roster is the strongest sign that the Twins can't be lead anywhere other than a losing season!
  15. The negatives are obvious and plentiful (and inexplicable). I would like to point out two good things the FO has done IMHO 1. The Draft: They are 2 for 2 no doubt 2. They are rolling out Stewart multiple times to make very sure they know what to do with him this off season. 3. They are giving Gonslaves and extended look which will prove to him how much he needs to work on his control (ie not enough players in the bigs are going to chase his nibbling)
  16. Ahhh Septemer baseball out of contention. A time to see the young talent play to figure things out and get excited about the future. Like that Matt Belilse kid..... will be interesting to get a first glimpse of his future potential. And that Gimenez prospect....could he be our Ohtani in the rough?! AND unleashing our 'opener' strategy?! Oh be still my heart....THIS IS HOW WE BASEBALL!!!!!
  17. On a more serious note.... what exactly is "the opener strategy," other than someone in the front office officially trying waaaaaay to hard and stepping on their....well you know. Rhythm is a huge part of baseball and this completely disrupts the starter for what again? Each time through the order is the same no matter when it is. If you don't have a starter that can go through the order three times, then start them and pull them after two times through (until you find and actual starter that can to replace them). If you want a bullpen game, then do a bullpen game.
  18. Futility BINGO! I had (in one game): 1. Belisile pitching 2. Gimenez pitching 3. Free Space 4. Field in left Field 5. and Gimenez starting at 1st base sucking up more at bats for youth before pitching What is my TD prize again?! (Seriously, I do think there should be a Futility Bingo Board available at TD) RiverBrian, I vote fore you)
  19. Lewis out of gas, minor injury, or mechanical problems? Gordon needs some kind of intervention. Whatever the cause of his issues, maybe he should have already been shut down.....like a week or two ago. Playing through whatever the issues are.... has not helped anything over the past nearly 2 months.
  20. Dear Twins FO, I'm super bored. Any ideas about where I could find better competition? Thanks in advance, Alex
  21. We need a new metric with a more positive spin for Belisle.... How about DPAR (Draft Position Above Replacement) If we ride Belisle the rest of the season he could be worth a DPAR of 3 if things break right!!!!! Now THAT is advanced metrics!
  22. Kirby Puckett carried two teams on his back for WS wins both through his play and his intangibles in the club house. I'm not sure there is still a team in Minnesota without those two magical seasons (lest we not forget the contraction risk was all too real a decade-ish later) He could hit ANYTHING at ANYTIME! His at bats were appointment TV (or radio) I cannot tell you how many times a stayed in a parked car to finish listening to a Puckett at bat. Rosario is a a bit of Puckett lite for me....and has that spark to become a special Twin.
  23. I was guilty of being a big advocate of pushing Gordon up to MLB a month or so ago. But Yikes! Anyone watch these games? I know the company line is that he burns out late in the season, but has he been lost at the plate a la Sano....mechanics problems? Injury? Seems like there must be something else going on than just fatigue alone....
