  1. We will be very lucky on multiple fronts if he actually pitches for us in October
  2. Our off season to date seems to depend on it.....so one can hope!
  3. Though very (pleasantly) surprised by Garver's Pit/PA and BB%.... This makes me more confident that his 2019 performance is repeatable!
  4. Uh Oh.... two TD articles in a row priming us for "what our options" will be when Donaldson signs elsewhere. Me thinks there has been some leakage about the FO being out on him and some preemptive SPIN!
  5. I'll refrain from rolling out my now tired complaints about the offseason I do like that you brought up Gibson. It was my understanding that we let Gibson go because we intended to add that money to a pile of other money to get 'impact' pitching. Which made sense....except that is not what we did. We took 1/3 of the price of Gibson's contract to sign a likely inferior pitcher in addition to a 40 year old coming off a new-ish surgery to repair an older surgery to HIS ELBOW LIGAMENT IN HIS THROWING ARM! (holy crap!). Yes, Gibson has an inflammatory bowel disease, but there is a MUCH better chance that this can be managed medically going forward (especially with an off season to get onto a stable regiment of steroid sparing chronic immunosuppression therapy).... than a torn ligament in the throwing elbow of a 40 year old pitcher. In summary, Nick, you bring up an interesting discussion.point.... would we have been better off signing Gibson to 30 mil at 3 years or the dynamic duo above? I personally think that Hill will not be able to provide a significant impact and that Gibson will be better than Homer...so....interesting. And remember in this thought experiment....we are back to having exactly ONE pitcher under contract AGAIN next off season!!!
  6. A lot of 'ifs' on health, non-PED performance, and avoiding regression but even if we avoid all of those 'ifs', The above playoff rotation simply will not prevail over a legit playoff rotation which will be fielded by NY/Houston/and possibly others. An established #1 starter provides much needed confidence to the entire team in playoff games. Much like an elite hockey goalie, there is just no substitute in the playoffs. Believe me, I wish there was....
  7. We are in no better position to be competitive in the playoffs (if we make it). Ergo.....failed off season to date. I remain impressed with the FO's ability to draft and develop players as well has hire coaches but.... Continue to think that their refusal to take needed risk with either FA signings or trading top prospects will ultimately prevent us from being anything more than above average-ish
  8. Bottom line: The FO has done absolutely nothing yet during the off seaseon that increases our chances of playoff success next year. Everything else is just background noise
  9. Angles have urgency and money and lost out on the FA. My guess is it will be them
  10. We are going to have to part with at least 1 and likely 2 of our top 5 prospects to get impact SP. Not trying to be pessimistic....that is just reality Sano is the only one in the group that will move the needle of any SP trade. But again, he is more "win now" and teams trading SP usually want top prospects to sell "win later" to their fans.
  11. Woof....but hey, this is what it has come to....
  12. A week or two ago I posted and estimate of 87-92 wins so I obviously think this is spot on Seriously though, our starting pitching was VERY healthy last year which is likely not repeatable. I think ODO, Cruz, Pineda, and Garver with have some regression.Berrios, i think has peaked but will maintain for many years.
  13. The answer to this really depends on the FO opinion about the potential for his change up....if they are confident in the development, they should probably keep him in AAA to begin the season because he should not try to develop a pitch while in the MLB. If they think his change up is unlikely to develop, keep him in the MLB in the bullpen out of the gates. (he can still work on the change up in bullpen sessions with MLB coach oversight and transition to starter when and if it does.
  14. This just deserves to be read again by everyone.....We actually were FORTUNATE overall with our lack of injuries in our rotation. We will likely need MORE depth in place for success this year....
  15. Yikes, in none of the multiverses is it a good idea to go into a season with THREE rotation slots occupied by "they just might make a difference" people. If we were serious, ALL FIVE slots would be filled with a reliable veteran and those "just might be" guys would be competing at AAA to be the replacement for the inevitable injury. There is just no way to spin this problem away, sorry I wish there was. And to get an "impact arm" they realistically need to be willing to give up 2 of their top 5 prospects. Yes it hurts but that will be the price of business. And, spoiler alert, the FO does not have the intestinal fortitude to give those types of prospects away....so.... ALL ABOARD!!! The 2020 AAAA Choo Choo train is leaving the station.... (don't worry if you miss this one.....it will be making regular round trips throughout the season!)
  16. I will offer a "buzz phase" that should ignite the FO.... "the great season ticket holder exodus of 2021"
  17. I'll live with it when someone enlightens me to which of the 3 pitchers from our 2017 class are going to be be good to great for us this year
  18. If this is our line up in 2023....we have failed to make a needed trade in the near term for "impact pitching".....
  19. Wait 'till next year!!!!!! You and other GM's are not smart enough to track their detailed and sneaky plans!
  20. Not sold on Price....but just to be clear, there is also RISK in inactivity as well...
  21. You are not wrong....but I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit....
  22. This....This...and.....what was I forgetting.....oh yeah.....THIS! The year to year bargain bin (Trademark Pending) is just simply not sustainable.....sorry
