Could Lucas Giolito and the Twins Be a Perfect Match?
D.C Twins replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Pretty simple.... if the FO feels confident that they have identified the source of his regression and can address it.... then go for it. If they are just hoping that he gets 'it' back then... no -
This.... this..... aaaaaaand... THIS! Do not mess with Lee at 1B... waaaay too valuable somewhere else in the infield.

The Best Case Scenario for Byron Buxton
D.C Twins replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Hope for the best and expect the worst. LOVE Buck. Wish the absolute best for Buck But the FO simply cannot make plans based on the hope that Buck returns to CF, or as a DH only for that matter. Hope is not a plan. -
The Best Case Scenario for Byron Buxton
D.C Twins replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If there were not chronic medical concerns, it would have been malpractice for Buck's agent to allow him to sign a 100 mil contract. Not conspiracy, but facts. Buck without chronic medical concerns goes right to the open market and makes waaaaaay more than 100 mil over 7 years. Tendonitis is NOT a chronic medical concern... sorry. -
The Best Case Scenario for Byron Buxton
D.C Twins replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
LENIII literally makes his living relaying talking points of the Twins FO... so whatever comes from him is fairly inconsequential. Arthroscopic Knee procedures should take weeks to a few months and not many months to years to recover from.... if they could actually fix the problem,... which for Buck and his degenerative knee condition... they cannot. Also, if the Buck and his agent really thought his chronic knee issues were only to flares of patellar tendonitis... they would not have agreed to a 100 million dollar contract (they would have demanded double at least). Buck, his agent, and the Twins agreed to this 'deal' because there were real concerns based on the existing medicals (which again... would not be just patellar tendonitis) Love Buck.....Feel bad for Buck (though 100 mil should buffer the frustration a bit)... but the FO best not be making plans based on Buck in CF full time next year. -

Well Nick... good to see that you have made it to somewhere between the denial and bargaining phase. No shame in that. Those of us in that have reached the acceptance phase will have a nice cold brew waiting for you when you arrive! -

Love Buck... but HE. IS. COOKED. Another random scope is not going to fix his degenerative arthritic knee due to loss/damaged cartilage... just a good talking point to help maintain current season ticket holders and sign up know ones. His offense would not justify being a starting 1B just like it didn't justify being a DH.

Astros 3, Twins 2: The Season is Over
D.C Twins replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My take was certainly not a hot one Baker does not repeatedly get managerial jobs by accident. MANY people that know more than us have identified his talent. There have been A LOT of managers that have not won divisions, pennants, and WS when they had 'great' players. As for last night specifically, I think he managed his SP differently than many (certainly Rocco) would have.- 126 replies

This... this.... aaaaaaand..... THIS. The ump scorecards just confirmed the obvious (and attached a 'runs lost' component) It was an unadulterated s-show of ball/strike calls on the close pitches for the Twins. A more accurate evaluation would be percent of close pitches call correctly. As a known Rocco critic... I think he managed quite well in the playoffs, BUT he needed to pick a moment or moments during the Houston series to get after the Umps and even comment about it in the media if the Umps did not respond to 'constructive criticism' on the field. You have to stand up for your team in those situations and shine a light on things... even if it results in an ejection or a fine.

He is on his way to becoming an 'ACE' but he's got demonstrate consistent excellence over next year and into the playoffs before I can give him that designation. He IS the Twins #1 and opening day starter and has all the promise in the world though!

Dusty Baker is an absolute managerial stud. He uses analytics but he does not get used by analytics. Confident and in control at times just like his team.- 126 replies

Astros 3, Twins 2: The Season is Over
D.C Twins replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
On a positive note, watching Paddack pitch made me VERY excited to see him as a SP next year... if he can stay healthy. He could slide in nicely behind Lopez in the rotation when Gray leaves (and leaves us a nice draft pick from our QO)- 126 replies

Astros 3, Twins 2: The Season is Over
D.C Twins replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am now officially all in on the robo-ump. The ball/strike calls for the Twins in that game was an unadulterated S-Show! And make no mistake about it, when it became obvious to the Twins hitters that the Ump was incapable of calling close balls, they had to expand their zone for swinging/chasing. I very much wanted Rocco up and out EARLY confronting home umpire even if he was thrown out, because a statement HAD to be made. But I am D-O-N-E with umps calling balls/strikes... there is absolutely no need for it anymore. And the transition is not if but when.... so let's make that 'when' happen ASAP- 126 replies

I'm not sure that Wallner has even touched a baseball during this series and if you have watched his ABs,,, he hasn't really even been close. I wouldn't assume that Houston will make the mistake of walking him tomorrow. Do you think he is the best option to get a hit?

I'm going to channel the former QB from our GB nemesis.... R-E-L-A-X Gray just didn't have it today. We can absolutely get the W tomorrow and set up and EPIC Verlander vs. Lopez game 5 showdown.... That being said.... for the love of all baseball... STOP STARTING WALLNER. How many AB does Rocco need to see to understand that he is completely overmatched at the plate?!

Another game to confirm what we ALL on TD have UNIVERSALLY espoused right from the beginning... The Lopez trade and Correa signing were genius! (no need to go review the archives....I said NO NEED!)

Now Is the Time for Minnesota's Lefty Bats to Shine
D.C Twins replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As I stated in a separate thread... Wallner has been completely overwhelmed during his ABs even against RHP during the playoffs. He needs to be replaced in the starting lineup ASAP.- 7 replies

I'm impressed by the moxie displayed to make a game of it in the last 3 innings! A few observations: 1. Wallner has been completely overmatched in his playoff ABs. Someone else needs to replace him in the starting line up. 2. It appeared that the Umps missed more calls against the Twins on balls/strikes but need to see the official breakdown as I am heavily biased of course :) 3. The Houston line up is possibly even better than advertised.... they take GREAT AB throughout the line up and will place constant pressure on the Twins pitcher. 4. Paddack looked really good which is exciting for next year as well! 5. Pressley's was more than a bit wild in the 9th and we completely let him off the hook with poor plate discipline We can still compete in this series but Houston is most certainly a worthy defending champion.

Twins Name Bailey Ober Game 1 Starter for ALDS
D.C Twins replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The FO listened to us at TD! (I kid... I kid...) -
Lot of respect for Kirk. He has maximized his talents and compensation while remaining humble and focused. Not sure he can get the Vikings to the promise land, but much respect.

Buxton stays Off (no evidence that he can meaningfully contribute this year) Ober On and pitches game 1 with Maeda available to piggy back Stevensons Off to make room for Ober Funderburk stays for LH option and Paddack (sp) stays for potential long extra-inning need Done.... aaaaand... done :)
