  1. We would also have to assume the Pohlad's don't read the paper if somehow they failed to notice the excellent support and publicity the other three pro sports teams have garnered recently by going outside the organization to make hires.
  2. I'm not sure about the Pohlad's level of deviousness, but the common narrative with the family is that they are cheap as hell. That narrative and blowing a boatload of money on a search firm they have no intention of using don't fit together very well. Though I do fear a hot streak by the team will sway ownership to keep the status quo. That would be foolish and it would be pretty hard to convince fans it wasn't a giant shell game from the start.
  3. My wife and I don't have many shows in common anymore, if she wants to watch this again, I suppose I will. If she doesn't, good riddance.
  4. To this point, I would think a couple of the early factors against him were that Ken Griffey Jr was well liked and a lot of people thought the Mariners chose ARod over Griffey. Additionally, he was an early recipient of one of those mega contracts. Almost all of those guys were disliked, and that largely had to do with the fans perception at the time that these guys were super greedy. We don't look down at these guys taking money from the even richer owners like we used to. I think there are plenty of reasons to dislike ARod, however due to a lack of social media, the reasons people didn't like him early in his career probably weren't too fair. The dislike was fair, but for the wrong reasons, and we didn't know the reasons at the time.
  5. Buxton needs to be universally labeled a bust. Then he can relax, stop pressing, and come back to the big stage with little pressure and no expectations.
  6. Is that the new defense attorney? Thankfully this stuff is all getting fuzzy already. I do seem to remember thinking the new defense attorney did give off a bit of a fortune seeker vibe.
  7. *** Moderator Note*** A-Rod has few fans and deservedly so in my opinion. However posting rules apply equally to the honorable and the infamous, and that includes personal attacks.
  8. I'm long over the braintrust's decisions with Buxton. I'm more concerned that Plouffe won't be riding pine as he should. Sano, Pokanco, Vargas and Escobar shouldn't be losing playing time for him.
  9. Watching Tom Brokaw at the Olympics, it reminds me of how informative, professional and reassuring he always was during his heyday. I thought more than once that he seemed more presidential than most of the candidates he covered. Trump has (waning) support largely because people don't like politicians and want an outsider. Would have a Tom Brokaw circa 1992 grabbed this same support?
  10. I'm a bachelor tonight, the wife took the kids to her parents for the weekend. I will be checking this thread while I sit at various bars in my town. All by myself. My wife says it's sad and creepy. I say it's long past due.
  11. Y Was his third talking point "protect life"? It was a little hard to hear over the gatling gun.
  12. If a team ever does this, they'll never get a decent free agent starter. Come to New York Mr. Kershaw, but we're only going to offer you $80M because you'll only be pitching about 100 innings. Oh and you never get to pitch past the third.
  13. Seeing as Santana is under contract in 2017, even non-playoff teams might claim him. The Yankees could do it simply to prevent their division rivals having him next year. If he gets traded, I think it has to be this off season.
  14. Nothing more obnoxious than a heckeling fan. I mean except for a self righteous ump. Nice work Davidson, fans used to have to run on the field, embarrass themselves and get creamed by a security guard to grab everyone's attention, impact the game and make the news. This way is much easier, way to set precedent smart guy.
  15. I would think if it were against the CBA, going over the pool would be strictly prohibited. I just don't see the ethical issue here, the only people being hurt by going over the pool are teams owned by owners who don't want to spend more money. The Twins and all sports franchises regularly do far more unethical things when it comes to the fans, the players, their communities and the tax payers, I don't think this should even rate on a top ten list.
  16. Whoa, whoa, whoa, my (red) state calls them voter protection laws. Have I been misled?!
  17. I really don't have any idea what other clubs are doing and I wasn't trying to compare other clubs to the Twins in terms of putting college pitchers from top programs in Rookie Ball. My opinion is that any club that regularly puts these guys against younger/more inexperienced competition than they just faced in the College World Series should reconsider the practice. I know the Twins do, and I'm not a fan. If this is common with other clubs, also, not a fan.
  18. Um, Max, where is the Franziskaner? I mean Erdinger is good too, but when I think German beer, I think Franziskaner
  19. I'm wondering what your feelings are on spending over the pool as is the trend with many if not most teams these days? Like myself, I would guess the frustration for many others doesn't really stem from whether or not the Twins actually spent all of their 2.4M, it stems from not taking advantage of the loophole. It's not like only the big market teams are doing it, Oakland, San Diego, Cincinnati, Tampa, St. Louis and Atlanta have all done it if memory serves. Shouldn't we feel disappointed that our team isn't doing all they can to get as many elite Latin players as possible?
  20. If I had one issue (aside from Chargois not being on the 25-man now) it's that I don't like regularly sending the college pitchers from big time programs to the Rookie Leagues. And a few of them don't, but it just seems to me that these guys aren't really being pushed when they go from playing 22-year-olds in the SEC and PAC 12 to 19-year-olds in the Gulf Coast and Appalachian League.
  21. I'd like to send down Boshers but the Twins don't have another off day until two Monday's from now, so now way will they roll with less than 12 pitchers. Molitor won't bench Plouffe and Polanco will end up getting no playing time again. So to give Anthony the benefit of the doubt, my guess is he'll send Polanco down to keep him playing every day because he knows his field manager won't do it up here.
  22. That's a good prediction if things stay the status quo. I think there's an equal chance things spiral even further out of control. A route of 450+ didn't used to be that uncommon. Seems to me the more pushback he gets, the more awful the things are that come out of his mouth, and the way folks from his party are bailing on him, it might only be a matter of time before does or says something irrecoverable to all the party faithful.
  23. That may have been my post and I don't have a clue. I was just going off of the BA link where the highest bonus was less than 500K. Clearly the front office was in turmoil during this time, hopefully it didn't impact any signings.
  24. Agreed, he's over-performed expectations in the FSL. Also, not that the Twins would trade him, but a 20-year-old, SS, top prospect with AA experience would on paper look much more exciting and close to the majors than a guy still in A ball.
  25. When will the Twins learn to stop going after these career NL only pitchers? Their stuff always takes a hit coming to the AL. Hold on, I'm being informed now that he played in Anaheim, which is not actually the Senior Circut team in LA. And it was the south side Chicago team?!? What the hell, this makes no sense.
