  1. Wouldn't the Giants rather have had Santana? This board would have been in hysteria.
  2. This Santana stuff is exciting. Just so long as the front office hasn't forgotten to have someone manning the Suzuki and Kintzler phones.
  3. Fine by me, we still have an hour and a half left. Of course my work will suffer.
  4. Jeremy's Twitter is also linking a Berardino Tweet about how the Giants have also long had interest in Santana. Jeremy's response is asking for Phil Bickford. That was clearly just spitballing. A good spitball though.
  5. Plan can change especially pending the returns they get and the pieces they move at the deadline. I wouldn't be surprised if they back off of the Duffey to the pen bit in favor of Chargois.
  6. The Twins know that the deadline is 3:00 CST not 12:30 right?
  7. Does he go right to the pen? I'm fine if he does, but not at the continued expense of Chargois. Regardless of what happens today, Chargois should be up. Three months ago.
  8. Out of curiosity do you have his service time numbers? My go-to for that stuff is BBR and it's not showing when he becomes a free agent likely due to the major league contract he signed when drafted. My feelings on him would change if he's still controllable beyond 2018.
  9. No disagreement here. I thought it was foolish to get rid of the GM mid-season, it would only cause myriad conflicts of interest for the interim guy who should be making moves for the future but instead would be tempted to do things to win games now to "prove" the team can recover because of him.
  10. So I've been told. Even worse if it's a used vacuum.
  11. I'm not sure of the intricacies of him singing a major league deal upon being drafted, but he's already out of options and it appears to me that he'll have four years of service time under his belt after this year. I would think that Bundy would only have two years left before becoming a free agent. As much as I'd like him as a high ceiling guy, one would have to think the odds that Santana is healthy and productive the next two years is much, much greater than Bundy. I'd want a ton more than Bundy for Santana if both are free agents following the 2018 season. It's not like you're getting a guy who is controllable for a long period of time.
  12. Again, I'm not against giving Puig a shot, but Anthony presenting Pohlad with Puig, a guy who the LA Media has savaged and fair or not, has the reputation of being a cancer, is like buying your wife a new vacuum as a make-up present after a fight. If it's presented wrong, you're sleeping on the couch. Even if Puig ends up being a good investment, whatever he does in 2017 or beyond isn't going help Anthony's cause now.
  13. http://laist.com/2014/01/07/yasiel_puigs_arrest_videos_are_full_of_drama_and_pink_shorts.php http://sports.yahoo.com/news/book--disdain-for-yasiel-puig-by-dodgers-teammates-no-longer-a-secret-212239227.html http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2597460-is-there-anybody-left-in-los-angeles-whom-yasiel-puig-hasnt-alienated https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzrwjEsgLXM http://mlb.nbcsports.com/2014/09/24/bill-plaschke-once-again-says-that-yasiel-puig-will-be-the-death-of-the-dodgers/ Anthony could give up nothing and sign him after being DFA'd. If Puig came here and got arrested for driving 100 MPH again, started on-field brawls, started fights with teammates or one of the most prominent local sports writers prints a headline saying that Puig will be the death of the Twins, Anthony has no chance at keeping his job. What he gives up won't matter. If we at all think that Pohlad is upset with the negativity surrounding the team, we can't possibly think another Puig error of judgment wouldn't impact his decision on GM. Personally, I'd be fine taking a chance on Puig and I'm generally in favor of a good gamble, however none of us are actually putting anything on the line to do so. If Anthony wants to keep his job, this doesn't seem like a smart decision, therefore I don't think he'd go for it.
  14. Forget about the fans concerned about team chemistry, they guy making the trade is trying to keep his job, and surely he remembers the last guy who usurped Ryan made his first big splash by trading for Delmon Young. That trade was held over his head for a long time. If Anthony is concerned about a clubhouse cancer, that's really all that matters, because he's not going to get chance to redeem himself should he make a glaring mistake. Any off field screw up or clubhouse confrontation by Puig would likely cost Anthony his job. If any of us were in his position, I'm guessing the possibility of future benefit wouldn't come close to the risk of the loss of our jobs.
  15. The reports were that he rejected it because he wanted Cleveland to void his 2017 option so he'd become a free agent sooner. This was driven be the fact that Cleveland wouldn't guarantee he would be the full time catcher next year when Gomes returned, Cleveland said he would play some 1B and DH, which could diminish his leverage when becoming a free agent. As much as it's fun to think he just hates Cleveland, he was simply doing what was best for his future.
  16. Yeah after contending last year there were lots of posts on TD about the Twins trading for him. It's probably safe to then rationalize that Lucroy is an ardent Twins Daily reader.
  17. Depends how low. I'd take a chance on him but with two years of disappointing production I'm not sure I'd want to give up anything too regretful. I was wondering if they could work a three team deal where the contending team gets Suzuki as his current play is probably more attractive for the remainder of 2016. Then the Twins would likely have to give up lesser auxillery pieces.
  18. “This next chapter will provide an in-depth look at the high-stakes post-conviction process, as well as, the emotional toll the process takes on all involved.” Oh yes, I'm sure the post conviction process is probably gripping and excellent TV for those folks who find CSPAN too intense. With agreeing to do this and surely sensationalizing it for ratings, the filmmakers objectivity only looks worse and worse.
  19. Just like college, I know how to kill a party. This place is dead anyway.
  20. What the hell are you guys still doing here, I thought we closed up shop for the night? Last call was an hour ago.
  21. After seeing what Miami paid for Cashner, I'd want way more than Mejia. If a team tells me that Santana's remaining contract is less appealing than Cashner's expiring contract, I tell that GM that we clearly do not see eye to eye and good day to you sir.
  22. Also, if the Twins do end up trading Santana, I hope Cashner flops in Miami. I don't want to give non-elite free agent pitchers four+ year deals anymore but I'd roll the dice on a Cashner reclamation project this off season for a one year make-good deal with or without an option. If the next GM goes for league average starting pitchers like our old one did, I hope he gets the kind that bite on one or two year deals, those guys are almost always a good movable asset.
  23. I am too, but only because Anthony's statement about being blown away doesn't sound impossible seeing as what the Marlins got to rent Cashner. Still not a fan of Anthony making the trade, but the if the starter market is this hot, it might be hard to screw up too terribly.
