  1. In this scenario the Twins are the Cubs. The Cubs gave up Scott Feldman and Steve Clevenger. If you're referring to Steve Clevenger as a prospect, well sure, I don't care if the Twins clear a 25-man spot by adding Danny Santana, who is probably the best Twins comp to Clevenger. I wouldn't consider him a prospect though, and Santana is a better player than Clevenger, as bad as Santana has been.
  2. Almost word for word, so glad you asked! "Well reports are stating the Twins are having a hard time moving him now, in his career year.Negotiate with him after the season, he is playing at his peak now, why would anyone in their right mind think it's a good time to get into negotiations?I'll take him back (preferrably [sic] after a trade) but his price isn't going to go up from where it is now.If anything you can get him at fewer years and/or fewer dollars come the end of the season." http://twinsdaily.com/topic/14520-twins-extend-kurt-suzuki/
  3. The Twins once upon a time gave up BJ Garbe for Pat Borders mid-season and just got Daniel Palka for Chris Herrmann. That's good enough for me, as like you said, getting Murphy playing time is probably more important than any returns.
  4. Why extend him now? There is absolutely nothing he could do from here on out that would price him out of the Twins comfort level next year. If you can trade him for anything, do it. If you want him in 2017, sign him as a free agent (but please, don't go out of your way to accomplish that second part).
  5. Hopefully this bitter pill is what it takes to give Jim Pohlad the kick in the pants to look at every option in an effort to find the real cure.
  6. If this behavior was actually prohibited though, wouldn't the rules say that the signings would be invalidated instead of penalized? If I steal a car, I don't get to keep the car if I pay a fine and do my jail time. Either way, I really would like to hear the reasoning from the Twins brass. Plenty of teams, maybe even most of them by now, have taken the penalty and reaped the benefits including many small market clubs. I'd like to know if the Twins won't do it for "ethical" reasons, fiscal reasons, if they don't like enough players or if they just can't attract enough players. I'm curious, though I'd probably be disappointed by any answer. We really need an International Draft if the Twins as they currently stand are going to compete for Latin prospects going forward. If the team is going to self-impose a handicap, they really can't rely on scouting alone and solely rely on finding the diamonds in the rough.
  7. I don't think either Santana or Nolasco are good enough pitchers to bring back quality players, so the only reason the Twins would have to throw in prospects to trade either guy would be so they would have to eat less salary. As much of a burden as Santana's and Nolasco's contracts may be, their salaries should have no impact on spending going forward, the Twins should be adding no prospects to their trade packages to move them. If needed, the Twins just need to straight up eat the money. God help Twins Daily if the Twins sacrifice prospects to save money on those two.
  8. ******Moderator Note********** I'm highlighting this post because there appears to be a disconnect between some posters and the posting policies. Being critical is fine and understandable, most of the mods are critical and frustrated. However, all posts are expected to be respectful. If a poster feels they are incapable of being critical and respectful at the same time, do not post. This is an FYI only, any response to this FYI will likely be considered off topic.
  9. Yup agree, but in fairness we've seen plenty of these guys fail to do what he's done big against younger guys, so any positive counts in my book.
  10. I didn't like the trade because Jepsen alone wasn't going to get that team to the playoffs and I thought he looked bad in TB last year, but to be fair, Jepsen was shorter term than they expected.
  11. *****Moderator Note******** I too am frustrated that this team looks as though once again it won't take advantage of the loophole and blow past their spending cap, **** but this still needs to be kept civil. Let's refrain from putting words in others' mouths and personal attacks of other posters and Twins personnel.
  12. 7500 players? What are they counting as minor leagues? Even if they count short-season leagues, most clubs have 4 full season affiliates and two short season. So forget about the Dominican League for a moment, 6 affiliates x 25 players = 150/team 150 players x $10/hr x 40 hrs/wk x 52 wks = 3.12M/ yr per team. Or about 1/4th of what the Twins pay Ricky Nolasco every year. Bravo MLB, bravo.
  13. Perhaps could have done this originally and instead put Arcia's 1.155 OPS to use the past two weeks.
  14. He doesn't have to be a sharp baseball person, he just has to be fed up and have the desire to find someone who is.
  15. Me too, because the Pohlad's have always been hands-off owners (thankfully), but how could there ever be wholesale changes if the owner leaves it to the underlings to make the changes, St. Peter isn't going to replace himself after all. The more prominent Jim becomes, the more confident I am that he realizes that he personally has to take the reigns and make the changes himself.
  16. What is this, three interviews in the last month or two including the one with the kid? That's about how many interviews I remember him doing since he took over from his dad. That might speak more than any of the actual words he's saying. My take: If Jim Pohlad is starting to become more dynamic with the media, something is brewing.
  17. I read that Sussudio was simply a placeholder for the song because Collins hadn't figured out all the lyrics yet. However he never came up with a word to replace it so it stayed.
  18. One of the bars is MN (barely, it's Moorhead) the other is in Fargo. The Moorhead brewery has a painting of the dog for the logo of the company in fact.
  19. The ball was hit into the outfield, and an outfielder threw the ball to another player who was standing on/near a base. Just an assumption though, I too am not able to watch.
  20. Interesting, two of the breweries by me always have the owners' dogs there too. Is that a brewery thing? I've never been up on the new trends.
  21. Agreed. Sorry to say, but the civilians who WANT to be armed, are probably the people I TRUST to be armed least I remember when people were talking about arming teachers and I was thinking back to my days in school. The one teacher who I knew would carry a gun to school would be the crazy sociology teacher who kept getting in trouble for getting physical with kids, bragged (lied) about being a former spy and got the cops called on him for screaming at the paper boy at 6 AM because he was late. Sorry, way too many of these guys would be/are walking around with fire arms, and they are just looking to "play hero".
  22. Good luck Phil. I don't find this good news simply because I don't wish an extensive surgery and rehabilitation on anyone.
  23. Out-pitch whom? The rotation is awful. May didn't deserve his demotion last year, it happened because he was young and the rotation was full. He has better stuff than everyone in the current rotation, why make him prove himself in Rochester when he showed in 2015 that he was just fine as a starter?
  24. ******Moderator Note************ The discussion is somewhat relevant to the topic at hand, but some of the posts are bordering on personal. Let's keep it objective.
  25. May's numbers as a starter in 2015 were better than every pitcher who has started for the Twins in 2016. Seriously, his ERA and WHIP were better than everyone who has toed the mound for the opening pitch this year and his K/9 was better than everyone but (SSS) Berrios and Meyer in 2016. And he was improving before the demotion.
