  1. My neighbors are moving and they told me they are moving to The Villages which is near Orlando. I have now learned that it's a retirement community that is also the swingers and STD capital of the world.
  2. I thought Russians were godless Heathens. Did Reagan lie to me?
  3. If no teams want the players than there's nothing to do. I'm just saying the Twins should be aggressively trying to move these guys ASAP, they should not be playing the traditional game of chicken hoping they'll get better value later, because A ) the player being shopped would have to improve his play, and B ) you'd have to hope the market hasn't been diluted with better talent. Those are two things beyond a GM's control. Being a seller when there are very few sellers is the only time this front office will have to manipulate the system. Be aggressive, don't sit back and wait for other GM's to make the first move. The buyers are going to want to make the best deal possible. That need not be a requirement for our GM, make the other guy an offer that is intreguing enough for him to take our guy and not wait to see who becomes available later this summer. Let the other guy "win" the trade.
  4. He has some encouraging things about him. He also only has a .690 OPS though.
  5. I'd do the same in a heartbeat to get out from under Hughes or Nolasco. Most teams aren't sure about being buyers, but seeing as the Royals and Mets were in the WS last year and wish to do so again, you'd have to assume they are. I'd give teams a discount on the return to get some of these guys off the books now simply to ensure they are off the books by the end of the year.
  6. I'd think Polanco is ready to be given a fair shot. The urgency really isn't about getting a good return for Plouffe, the urgency is to move guys who might not be movable once the A's, Angels, Yankees, Tigers, Brewers, Phillies, Rockies and other teams also decide they will not compete this year. The Twins already know they're sellers.
  7. I guess I don't understand the last sentence. Shouldn't the goal to use as many workable innings at the majors instead of the minors? Pitchers seem to leave the game due to physical deterioration much quicker than batters. Also, pitchers are the causation to the batters reaction, it is the batter that needs to adjust to the pitcher, not the other way around. Because of those two things, it is the pitchers that I'd call up early and let the batters season in the minors if needed. I understand this is the opposite approach the Twins appear to take. On a more fundamental note, relief pitchers who throw 100 MPH don't tend to last long. Even if he is lights out for a few years, there's a very good chance he'll never get a shot at a true career-making free agent contract. Let him get his service time and give him a better chance of making his money. Also, it's a lost season, he has options and he's already on the 40-man, what's the harm?
  8. Who was acquired for Luis Castillo who was acquired for Travis Bowyer and Scott Tyler. We have a pretty good chain here, let's trade Nunez and keep it going!
  9. Every inning Chargois throws in the minors is one less he throws n the majors. Relief pitchers tend to have short shelf lives. Very few leave the game on their own terms.
  10. If they go hitter, I just want best hitter available regardless of position. Position seems like it should be pretty concrete and easier to project, yet it rarely is. I do wonder why he's chosen Liberty though. Surely a top 30 guy would have scholarship offers from top programs wouldn't he? Also, how about signing his dad?
  11. Agree, but at some point you have to weigh the odds of someone taking on the salary at some unknown future point against the futility of the effort and the wasted roster spot. Crawford looked like it was about a 99% certainty that no one would ever take on a dime of his contract. Phil Hughes is looking like he's up to about 90% chance that no one will ever take his contract. However to be fair, Nolasco looked to be about 90% two weeks ago and is now down to 50/50 that a team might take on some portion of his salary. And to be thoroughly fair, these numbers came straight out of my butt.
  12. The law of averages and the historical ineptitude of the current product seems to indicate that an improvement would be nearly impossible not to achieve.
  13. I'm really not for optioning Park; I'm OK with him learning up at the MLB level. However, if a month from now we see that it did work for Buxton and Park is still struggling, I'm more than comfortable changing my approach to the situation.
  14. Completely agree. Nunez has been the best player this year, he should get a pass on a single boneheaded play. However he's not, simply because there are repeated boneheaded plays by everyone. The sample size of follies is now too large to assume it's coincidence, it appears systematic, and systematic issues need to be solved by those higher in the hierarchy, not the players. If workers for an auto manufacturer continue to screw up cars which cause costly recalls, it's not the laborers but those above them whom the shareholders will demand to be held accountable.
  15. I agree, but this kind of foolishness isn't infrequent. Either brain farts are contagious and unpreventable, or the message has not gotten across that this stuff isn't tolerable. Rosario gets demoted for a dumb steal attempt that Plouffe appears to have earlier gotten a free pass on. Buxton gets sent down to fix his technique while Dozier's approach is bordering on insubordination and Nunez bunts in a situation that likely would have seen Arcia DFA'd. The vets are a huge problem, but the fact that they don't appear to be held accountable is a bigger problem. I know the Twins think they lack veteran leadership, but should the message really be: "As a young player you have no leash, but put your time in and you can get away with murder?"
  16. Does it matter? The goal is to get Sano back to 3B and another high strikeout/low on-base guy off of the roster. This team has prospects, they need to find room for the ones they have. Getting more shouldn't be the top goal. You can "lose" a trade and still come out ahead.
  17. I don't understand the analogy. As unimpressive as they look, the 2016 White Sox nearly position for position are more talented than the 2015 Twins. I mean Sale and Quintana alone make them better than last year's Twins.
  18. I'm not a Grossman believer, but the Twins desperately need more of the O even if they get less of the S. He has a track record of getting on base at all levels. I get the move even if I'm skeptical of the end payoff.
  19. The Twins need to take advantage of their silver lining. They have to start trading now while teams like the Angels, Tigers, Brewers, A's, Rockies, Phillies and Astros still hem and haw about contending.
  20. Could be, or it could be they have one of those handshake deals with a guy who is currently claiming he wants overslot to deter other teams.
  21. I know. I didn't share that thought, but it was a popular sentiment around here last off season. For the record, I think Trevor Plouffe would be a fantastic bench/utility player. Just not a good option to lock into 3B and the 4-5 spot in the lineup. I'd bet if need be, he could play all four corners and 2B.
  22. That probably was their plan, and I don't mind trying something else, it's certainly a departure from past plans. However they should have foreseen that most of those HR would be of the solo variety.
  23. Regardless of where Sano plays, I actually have been arguing that this team was not better with Plouffe in the lineup since this off season. The team has too many guys who don't make contact and don't get on base and due to his age and position, Plouffe should have been the most expendable of those guys. Even if Plouffe could outperform Polanco in OPS, the Twins need an upgrade at OBP. In my mind, Plouffe should have been removed or bench simply to get a guy in the lineup who can get on base. Also he's a vet, so we all knew Molitor would bat him in the middle of the lineup instead of 7th or so as he should on most other teams. I'm not talking hindsight here either, I'm talking about 2015 Plouffe, not 2016.
  24. It seems like a fantastic summation to this season to me.
  25. Damn it Elon Musk, just continue to focus on making cars that can drive 2000 miles on a AAA battery.
