  1. I would argue every move Ryan has made since the season went in the toilet looks like a misguided attempt to squeeze every futile win out of this club, and the only reason he would do that is because he's thinks it's the only way to save jobs.
  2. None of the players are intentionally tanking games, I'm sure everyone in the dugout is playing to win every single one of them. If the inclusion of a single player on the 25-man is causing another player to give less of an effort, than that guy needs to get lost. And that isn't happening. Who is on the roster has absolutely nothing to do with the players trying to win games.
  3. Berrios' biggest issue was his control, which has never before been an issue. If he's having issues locating, it's likely due to nerves, you don't get over that in AAA with 500 people in the stands.
  4. Why? The Twins used it as a developmental league in the early 80s and late 90s. When the big club is terrible, why not let the young guys learn how to compete against MLB players instead of AAA players? What good is 70 Wins in 2016 going to do anyone as opposed to 60 Wins?
  5. What can he learn in AAA that he can't in the majors? Because at this point Wins and Losses in 2016 should be among the last concerns anyone has for this club. It should all be about Wins and Losses in 2017 and beyond.
  6. Even if Hoyer won't leave because they want to finish what they started in Chicago, there are plenty of other opportunities to do something similar. John Mozeliak in St. Louis or Neil Huntington in Pittsburgh could be considered assuming that to get an existing successful GM the team would be promoting them to Team President. They may not be a good fit, but they c/w/sh-ould be considered. I'd say the chances of the Pohlad's doing something drastic are less than 50/50, but I also think all bets are off if attendance continues to dwindle. I think last year's surprise team saved some jobs, another backslide with the much heralded prospects we were all told to be patient with could easily be justification for wholesale changes. Success now, with these guys is what Ryan and the front office were pinning their entire campaign on through the "rebuilding" period.
  7. Duffy has a good breaking pitch, Hughes curveball has always been below average. If your only decent pitch is your fastball, and it losses 3-4 MPH in two years, you're in trouble unless it started at 98. Edit: and looking at Fangraphs, his curveball usage has been up this year. He was throwing it 15% of the time last year and it's up to 24% this year. So I'm guessing they've been experimenting with off-speed stuff as everyone knows his velocity is a problem. It's of no use though if the curve stinks just as it always has.
  8. I agree, Hughes' last three starts have gone 4 innings, 2 innings and 5 innings. Molitor has already shown a pattern yanking him early, even if Ryan did want to milk every dime out of Hughes by sticking him in the rotation, he can't stop Molitor from Alex-Meyering Hughes the rest of the year.
  9. Making blanket statements about Terry Ryan is how one ends up being wrong saying the Twins will never draft a HS pitcher with an early pick, the Twins will never give a free agent a deal longer than 2 years and the Twins will never fire a manager. This is an assumption, not fact, it should be prefaced as such. "Ryan probably will not do it, because"
  10. Holy crap, it's up to 91 MPH now?
  11. Voting for someone who isn't running and isn't willing to take office doesn't make any sense either.
  12. I'm OK with keeping Buxton in AAA a bit if there is a plan for Danny Santana. He's been hitting again and though he probably has little trade value on his own, if he keeps hitting, he might be a good complementary price to add if the team is trying to move a difficult to trade starter.
  13. I thought we were trying to clean up a mess, not add to it.
  14. Come on, no one cares about Wins any more. What about WAR, that's cumulative, the Twins pitchers have him beat there. Oh. Oh no. They don't? Seriously? Sorry, what is going on here?
  15. You better not be ripping on The Cars! Unlike this team, they're quite enjoyable to listen to.
  16. That's so chauvinist. Why can't women grow a pair?
  17. Holy crap, did D&B just relay a story about Tony O telling Sano NOT to go the other way?!? Now we know no one is one the same page!
  18. I just tried it out on yours, and yes it does. Like away, especially my posts.
  19. Dick just implied Asdrubal Cabrera was a good SS and lumped him in with Lindor and Vizquel?
  20. I read a pretty compelling conspiracy theory that New Coke was designed to fail. As the theory goes, Coke was switching from sugar to the much cheaper corn syrup but knew folks would flip out. So instead they changed the entire formula knowing there would be riots. After a few months of looting and anarchy they "caved in" and brought back original Coke -wink wink-* and everyone rejoiced. *wink = corn syrup
  21. Personally I don't care if the rotation has a veteran, I'd get rid of each of them to make room forthe young guys. However the 1993 Braves staff had decades of experience. Maddox had already finished his first contract and had been up seven years, Glavine and Pete Smith were six years in, Smoltz had five. Baby Steve Avery at the age of 22, had three years and 542.3 innings of experience under his belt, which is 118 innings more than Kyle Gibson has right now.
  22. Ha, yeah I get it, but believe it or not, we can't walk across town in ten minutes. I am still the only one in town who has gotten the internet though. No one else thinks it will catch on.
  23. Matt Bush has been called up from AA and is joining the Rangers 25-man roster. For those who don't know, or perhaps more aptly, don't remember, he was the much maligned High School shortstop, picked first overall in 2004 by San Diego. The pick was panned from the start as the Padres picked the hometown kid who played a premium position and passed up a perceived can't-miss ace in Justin Verlander, who made it well known that he was going to sign for big bucks. Due to the similarities, the top of this draft drew all kinds of comparisons to 2001 when the Twins more successfully took hometown kid Joe Mauer, who played a premium position, over the more heralded "can't-miss ace" Mark Prior. Well things didn't work out so well for Bush or the Padres. He couldn't hit, he couldn't field and he didn't develop any power or speed. What he did develop was an alcohol and drug problem. The Padres kicked him to the curb, and likely thinking of the team's past failure to get the best out of Josh Hamilton, Tampa Bay picked him up and stuck him on the mound. That was a short lived union however as he was arrested and jailed for 51 months after nearly killing a motorcyclist which according to reports may or may not have been his third car accident of the day. Out of prison, Bush was picked up this past year by Texas, who continued on with Tampa's pitching experiment. Well it appears as though it worked. In Double A he has a 9.5 K/9, 2.1 BB/9 and a 2.61 ERA. Of course this is only in 17 innings pitched. Of this crazy story, it was that last part that struck me the most, the guy has been in prison for over four years, has thrown only 17 innings this year and was basically a shortstop before hitting the big house, yet the Rangers have already called him up to the majors. Eat your heart out JT Chargois. I have no idea if Matt Bush is contrite, humble or a changed man, if he is, I'm sorry for this next part, because all I can picture after reading this story is a Ranger's player asking him where he played last season. His response would be of course: http://images1.houstonpress.com/imager/u/original/6716749/charlie_sheen_r102610_thumb_200x151.jpg "California Penal."
  24. Gas, what are they using gas for, those environment killing beasts are outlawed in Oregon, no? And 55 MPH is overkill anyway, I'm not sure how anyone could peddle that fast.
