  1. I can see the problems these companies bring. Any issues they have are overshadowed by their benefits in my area though. Fargo is urban enough (with a pretty heavy nightlife scene) that lots of public transportation is needed, but at the same time the much higher night time volume still isn't enough to offset the overall costs for the traditional cab companies, so they were never able to, or unwilling to cover the needs of the city at night. Before Uber, cab wait times would be well over an hour during last call, which needless to say, caused a lot more drunk driving. I would think this is the same in other similar sized markets as well. Of course I'm sure that will all be revisited if we get reports of Uber sexual predators. Also, can't wait for self-driving cars! Then no need for drinking and driving OR Uber criminals!
  2. I don't know who Andrew Webb is, but I think his idea is fantastic and the Angels should listen to him. Like ASAP.
  3. Luis Arraez looks like he might be an unheralded and underrated exciting prospect. He's the youngest player on the team by almost a year and he's hitting everything with a really nice 9/11 BB/SO ratio. And the fact that he just turned 19 and he's at full season ball already probably says a lot about what the Twins think of him. The Twins normally keep international signings like him in short season leagues.
  4. I think if we go into trade mode, that's only going to end up with the Twins keeping most of the vets. Most of them aren't going to bring back much if any value. In my opinion, the real value is getting experience for the young guys. It would be nice to get some big prospects back, but it's unlikely and there is going to be a 40-man roster crunch as it is next year.
  5. Nice analysis. It looks like the off day allowed for some really quality research sessions yesterday.
  6. Nice research Spycake. I mean, it's not really "nice" considering the context, but great effort digging up those numbers.
  7. A number 3 starter will throw over three times the number of innings a reliever will. Why would you waste all those innings? Also, May never made it past six innings because both Gardenhire and Molitor don't trust young pitchers and pull them early.
  8. I would not be comfortable with Anthony as GM, but it wouldn't be because of an interview he gave a half decade ago. As amatures in this field, everyone on this site probably has exponentially increased our knowledge of baseball staristics than we did five years ago. Stating someone who is paid to work in a MLB front office hasn't improved in this area when armchair amatures have is ridiculous.
  9. All but five MLB managers were one time MLB players. Seems like you would be substantially shrinking the pool of availability if former players were excluded.
  10. I also think that despite the gender stereotypes, Clinton has always been seen as more of a back-room, cigar and whiskey, handshake kind of a politician. Perhaps she won't be able to get anything done, but in 2008, this was one of the talking points as to why she was a better fit than Obama.
  11. I disagree, I think at best Twins Daily was 50/50 about going outside the organization for a new manager and it was probably much, much higher. But I also don't think they were insistent on hiring a guy with no experience. I think they might have been insistent on Molitor, but I don't think that had anything to do with his lack of managerial time.
  12. I don't know that he has issues but he's only just now faced AAA pitchers. His biggest problem is that he's not being blocked by movable vets, we still need to figure out a way to get Sano, Arcia, Rosario and Buxton at bats.
  13. Polanco should be playing, but aside from that, there probably isn't too many complaints about the offensive youth movement unless one is of the mind that Buxton/Kepler should be working out their issues at the MLB level. The pitching is a different story. This Santana/Hughes/Nolasco roadblock is troublesome. I'm not sure what the front office thought would happen when they gave these guys four year deals with their best pitching prospects were in A+ through AAA. It almost seems like there wasn't a plan, they just thought the situation would work itself out.
  14. I agree, it doesn't matter if the fee for not returning it with a full tank is $20 bucks or $200, that's just the behavior of a self-entitled, spoiled brat who has had everything handed to him. What?!? Me fill up my own tank? My time is so much more important than yours. You do it peon!
  15. I guess if I had to make an argument against it, it would be that there hasn't been a good catcher drafted since 2008. I think the position is a lost cause, the best ballplayers don't want to play it any more.
  16. Completely off topic, but has anyone here read E A Poe's The Cask of Amontillado?
  17. Well cue the word hypothetical. This thread is for ideas, not complaining.
  18. McPhail worked with a ton of these guys. Would he even replace Ryan? I like McPhail, but if the goal is to get rid of the country club, well he started it.
  19. I liked what the Cubs a Dodgers did, stealing a well respected GM and promoting him to President Could the Twins go that with someone like John Mozeliak? I see his assistant GM is a numbers guy, he could come along as GM.
  20. Sorry, nope, I don't have any personally. However we've largely been getting overly anxious and pointing fingers at who we think is to blame for the current mess. Of course one of the problems with flagrant blame is that any solutions get lost in the ruckus, or are absent entirely. So hypothetically assuming the culprit(s) of your choosing get the axe, who should replace him/them? Presuming owner is beyond a guess or reason, the three big spots would be President, GM and field manager. Let's hear some thoughts and brainstorm a solution instead of scream ourselves into an aneurysm.
  21. No, you do not drink the Schell's Snowstorm. If you absolutely cannot throw it away it can only be used to parboil your brats, but be warned, the entire time you will be weeping for your brats.
  22. Yup, like when I go to the liquor store and the seasonal beer is on sale because it's no longer that season and they need to make room for the new seasonals. The liquor store will sell at cost to bring in the newer flashier beer, and THEY don't care that I just got a good bargain. Though to be fair, there was a reason that the Schell's Snowstorm (Brown Ale) sat on sale for two months; no one wanted that awful mess. Sometimes you just got to toss it in the dumpster and eat the loss.
  23. Is it really because they were too expensive? Or because Twins fans at TF were intentionally swallowing them in mass protest/suicide?
  24. Remember that one time when Michael Tonkin was the absolute worst thing that happened to the pen? I wish we had six more of him.
  25. Hmmm, Andrew Albers is left-handed and Canadian, we sure this isn't him? It's been awhile since I saw him.
