  1. You're thinking of a Seinfeld episode.
  2. That guy and goalies? Are we still talking about most athletic or most mentally incapacitated?
  3. No, even if there is debate, gymnasts certainly qualify as a candidate. Some of that stuff seems like it shouldn't be physically possible. We just saw a 4' 10" 18-year-old woman who could probably beat 70% of men in an arm wrestling contest and 90% of us in a foot race. And those skills are only a small component of what she does.
  4. I don't know, you need pretty good speed, upper body strength, core strength and really good body control. And b**** of steel. I have no clue how you practice doing that for the first time; it seems to me there's no way someone just trying it out wouldn't get 10 kinds of injured.
  5. I don't want him up this year. I want the next GM to be making these calls.
  6. It was also only one start. He only needed 101 pitches to get through 9 innings in the start before. Last game he threw 105 pitches to 21 batters for an average of 5.00 pitches per batter. That's a lot. But his other nine AA starts combined saw him throw 858 pitches to 214 batters for 4.01 pitchers per batter, that's not bad.
  7. As a fan, I'd want to win the World Series. But in any profession, relocating, no matter what kind of added perks and no matter how long, is rarely a no-brainier. Unless your single.
  8. Agreed. I obviously don't mean to imply it's a fact that Molitor wouldn't sit Suzuki, it just seems like something he would not do.
  9. That's true, but a GM usually has a hard time dictating playing time, particularly interim GMs who's boss hired a search firm to replace him and said the manager isn't going anywhere. I don't see Molitor benching Suzuki. Unless Suzuki is no longer an option for him.
  10. Yeah it looks like his plant leg is injured, but it really wouldn't matter which one was actually hurt. Initially it might seem like common sense that the lead leg is the one that matters since that is the one that stretches out, but the plant leg is where all the power comes from. My local college has a really good track team and they asked me to walk on. I said no thanks, I need to focus on my long term goals of drinking way too much and growing out my beer belly.
  11. My dad was a volleyball coach in the day, it runs in my blood. Stupid doctor said there's no such vaccine and I should stop bugging him about it though.
  12. Particularly if the Twins put any value in what their pitches think of a guy like Garver's catching. It's a unique position, but if Garver is going to be a consideration next year, it's probably a good idea to see how he meshes with the pitchers.
  13. I still have a hard time with the libero, scoring on side outs and allowing the served ball to hit the net. Those were huge changes, that's like if baseball not only enacted the DH, but also gave runs to the defense for getting an out AND counted a foul ball as a strike three!
  14. I was a pretty good hurdler in HS. I pulled my hamstring my senior year and my coaches kept pushing me to get back out there even though I couldn't extend my leg very far off the ground. That's what that looks like to me. I never fell once though! And for my vote, I love the Olympics. NBC has plenty of eye-roll moments, but that's not the competitors fault. In the NFL/MLB/NBA-only broadcasting era we now live in, I enjoy seeing all this athletic diversity.
  15. Pretty sure Brady Anderson is about 50, I remember his 1989 rookie card. It looks like Max Murphy is turning things around. I remember we had a flash of hopeful optimism in 2014 when he destroyed the Appy League, but then things kind of fell apart when he hit the full season leagues. Nice improvement at Ft Myers this year; hope he gets back from his rehab assignment soon.
  16. Well we found out McCann was placed on waivers before the waiver period even ended. Things get leaked, even if it's supposed to be confidential, and the leak could come from any of the 30 teams since they all know who is waived.
  17. Ha, love that one. I asked Berardino though and he replied. The commissioners office considers the waivers confidential information and disclosure is prohibited. Which makes sense seeing as no matter what the player or club, the reporting of the waivers always seems to be a very random scoop and often not timely.
  18. I'm puzzled how and why that doesn't get reported two days ago. What is the leverage in keeping that mum?
  19. It's not called the best player award though and the voters for the award aren't asked who they'd pay the most for to start their team. I also absolutely do not agree that the best player and the most valuable player are the same thing, just as I wouldn't think the best movie (The Godfather) and the most important movie (Citizen Kane) have to be the same thing. I digress though because the debate wasn't really my point, it was simply that I'd like the absence of a debate because I recognize everyone views this differently. Make a high profile award for the best hitter, just like they do the best pitcher and then there's no conflict. The NHL and College Football do this, though I'd draw the line at one additional award, not 2-3 thousand like those sports.
  20. Baseball would be smart if they added another trophy and be done with this divisive "can a guy on a last place team get the MVP award" debate that happens every year. To me it seems pretty clear, a guy on a last place club by definition isn't very valuable. We have the Cy Young, which can only go to a pitcher, yet the MVP can go to either batter or pitcher. Why don't they simply create the Ted Williams or Willie Mays award that goes to the best position player? It seems strange that there is this particular pitcher specific award but not an equivalent batter specific award.
  21. You're right that is confusing. So to be clear, we basically traded Andrew Albers for Carlos Carrasco. Right? Right?!
  22. I'm fine with him being a third outfielder. Assuming he's talking about Yogi Berra on the '61 Yankees or young Manny Rameriz playing third fiddle to Albert Belle and Kenny Lofton in the mid 90's.
  23. Ernie Banks and Walter Johnson: the two biggest problems in baseball history. There are good reasons to keep Dozier, however should the Twins move on from Polanco and commit to Dozier, they'll almost surely begin thinking about extending him some time next year. At that point he'd become the expensive vet on the wrong side of 30. I'm not sure this young team needs another one of those.
  24. In a vacuum I agree. My fear is that the current manager will ride with Kintzler too long next year in high leverage situations simply because he got the job done in 2016. This team certainly would have been in better shape had Molitor rode with the hotter hands of Tonkin, Pressly and/or May instead of giving Jepsen a leash (noose) into June. Though to be fair, nearly all relief pitchers are flakey and you can't take them all away to avoid statistically unjustified managerial favorability. I'd guess others who are in favor of moving Kintzler feel the same as I do, it's really less about the pitcher and more about nervousness about how much the manager will rely on him. Of course there is an alternative to removing the pitcher from the equation....
  25. Right, didn't the organization openly pride themselves on bringing back Torii Hunter last year to do this with the young bats? Seems to me Johan Santana was always trying to teach (to no avail) his change up to teammates as well. Also I believe Ervin Santana is known as a student of the game and I do recall him rattling off pretty old Twins trivia when they signed him. He's probably not much less qualified to aid the pitchers than BP coach Eddie Gaurdado.
