  1. There must be some strategy to this but I wish someone would open up about it. I don't understand why all 30 teams don't put their entire roster on waivers August 2nd when every team is still finalizing their post deadline rosters. I can't imagine any player actually "sneaks" through later, I'm guessing the other teams get some kind of report. Seems like making a conditional trade based on the hope a guy clears waivers includes an uneccessart step. But the Twins aren't the only team that does this so there must be some reason.
  2. Well the concern replied to was giving up a reliever with 6 years of control. But honestly, I was as big of a Meyer believer as anyone, even going into this year. I'm out though. Another forgettable season, this one due to an ominous shoulder issue that has kept him out nearly all year? No regrets. Yeah, at this point I'd take Busenitz straight up for Meyer.
  3. Good thing they traded for a reliever with six years of control then I guess. Busenitz also has more options left than Meyer. Even without the Nolasco/Santiago components, it's still a push at worst under these standards.
  4. I don't really buy into Kintzler's success. I wouldn't give him away, but I really hope the Twins aren't going to put a ton of faith in him being a back of the bullpen guy again next year. So if another team closer to competing next year sees him as a missing link, I'd move him. These guys are such a crap shoot.
  5. I liked Garfield when I was a kid and my six year old found a bunch of my old Garfield books. They don't exactly hold up. But there's no way I'm going to turn my kid off of them.
  6. I hate to break it to you, but bacon is in fact pig. And if you don't eat bacon, you're probably cheering for the Russians in the Olympics too.
  7. Nice game thread write up! Suzuki is still catching?! And Duffy is still pitching?!?
  8. I vote Wimmers. Last chance to make something of that first round pick.
  9. I have to admit, good or bad, hearing Doug Mientkiewicz disregard organizational directives makes me laugh. Would he have done the same thing if Ryan was still in charge and the front office wasn't so unstable? He too likely assumes that his next ?boss? likely is not currently employed with team.
  10. I always got the feeling those guys don't need any encouragement, just a paper thin excuse to blow their top. "That Walmart greater didn't great me! Someone has to pay! OBAMAAAAAAAAA!"
  11. http://www.cracked.com/blog/trump-writes-some-his-own-tweets-and-we-know-which-ones/ Pretty funny stuff. There's a theory about Trump's tweets, basically he Tweets from his Android and they make up nearly 100% of his most bat**** crazy non-sense. These are usually followed by Tweets from an iphone that are less insane, more grammatically sound and 1000x less narcissistic. So it's pretty clear which posts come from Trump and which come from his staffer(s).
  12. I voted for McCain too. But it was in 2000, I wrote his name in. I was disgusted by Bush's push polling, soon to be disgusted by every thing else.
  13. I might argue that the reason he doesn't walk more is because he hasn't been given a great reason to swing less. He's making good contact and is being rewarded for his freeswinging ways. Perhaps if things go in the tank for him he would be forced to adjust and come out a more complete player.
  14. Take Buster Posey out the equation and the position is just so flukey. I'd be fine rolling with an internal option and which ever vet is willing to take a one year deal, which is probably most of them. Soto, Saltalamacchia, Navarro, Hundley, Castro, Suzuki. None are likely to be a top catcher next year, but with the wild fluctuation of offensive proficiency year in and year out with these guys, you never know. Look at Suzuki in his three years here how much more of a roller coaster could his Twins tenure have been? Everyone agrees Wilson Ramos is going to get a big payday yet there was talk about him getting non-tendered last off season; he was awful in 2015. I'm not getting too worked up about the largely ineffectual and irrationally inconsistent position. Unless you have Posey, all you have is a lotto ticket anyway.
  15. Per the video, Trump's eagerness to use nuclear weapons did come from an undisclosed 2nd hand source. Still, the fact that it is incredibly believable is frightening. If this is true, this needs to be a widespread talking point, this is more frightening than him implying his supporters could assassinate Clinton.
  16. If they can't re-sign him, something has gone horribly wrong because he won't be expensive. Not saying they should re-sign him, but he's going to be playing under an affordable contract for any team going forward the rest of his career.
  17. The national media talks about them this way because they are losing a lot the last half decade. They are an easy target, just like how making fun of the Browns is seen as good sport. If the Twins had been hitting on free agents as of late and had been a .500 team the last several years, national publications wouldn't be making jabs at player development, it wouldn't even be on their radar. I'm not saying there isn't criticism to go around, simply that nationally the Twins only get scrutinized because people love to stare and play Captain Hindsight with the guy who's losing the fight.
  18. I believe he can go back to college and play baseball should he want to. The NCAA changed the rules a few years back where a professional athlete can play a sport other than the sport he is professionally paid. It's basically what allowed Russell Wilson to play football even after playing Minor League baseball. I'd take Tebow's attempt at baseball more seriously if he tried to make a college team, assuming there isn't some eligibility issue I'm missing.
  19. Agreed, and aside from the contract, Archer has over 300 less innings on his arm and from the sound of it, is one of the best clubhouse guys in the game.
  20. I'm hopeful on Gordon, but there's no way I'm presuming he's going to be good enough to make Escobar a non-factor.
  21. I missed Paul Waner. When I was a kid I could have recited the 3000 hit club, 500 HR club and 300 Win club in order. And now we don't think much of those stats. What a wasted youth!
  22. I'm guessing everyone would have known he was batty if we had Twitter and Facebook back then. I'm talking about the few well known people who have survived the social media onslaught relatively unscathed.
  23. He'll surely copy every thing that Trump is doing now. If there was a well known non-traditional candidate who wasn't bat**** crazy, they might actually win this thing. Instead of Trump or Curt Schilling, what if it was Al Michaels or Bruce Springsteen or Phil Mickelson or Tom Hanks? What if it was someone who everyone said, "Hey, that's a good dude, and I can't recall him doing anything insane." But I guess most sane people probably aren't all that interested in the job.
  24. I was fine with the Park signing, but like everyone else (including Terry Ryan likely), I thought that meant Plouffe was going to be traded. When Ryan saw the market for Plouffe wasn't what he expected, he really had three realistic options at that point. 1) Trade Plouffe for peanuts and possibly eat some salary. 2) Non-tender Plouffe. 3) Tell Paul Molitor in no uncertain terms that barring injury Plouffe would be a bench bat and a utility player until further notice. Bottom line, I think other organizations could have signed Park under the same circumstances but would have been able to deal with this situation in a way that would not have left us still talking about it in August. Option 4) was just ridiculous, though I guess there should be a modicum of credit for really, really thinking outside the box.
