  1. For a 29-year-old, Gossett has been up and down between AAA and AA the past couple of seasons. He needs to find success at AAA. Randy Dobnak is back. Sorry, when he is eligible to return, I would designate him for assignment to keep the 40-man spot. No team would pick up his remaining contract. After this season, he would probably be a minor league free agent, but again a team would have to make him a better offer to leave the Twins. Unless, of course, he works magic ball in the next 30 days or so.
  2. I would start discussions. I would also try and long-term Duran and Arraez while we are at it.
  3. Arraez is such a gem to watch battin. I hope his knees hold up. And first base seems to be a good place for him. Home runs are nice. But what is nicer is someone else hitting a home run with a runner on base. Construct the lineup correctly and you can make use of Arraez's run-scoring abilities. Inetresting. I often wonder what the Twins would be like with Isiah Kiner-Falefa. I was excited when the Twins obtained him for shortstop. But glad the Twins were able to get out of the Donaldson contract and more than happy with Urshela at third base for the moment.
  4. Not sure why Romero was considered a bullpen arm. Will he be back in 2023? Alcala would've been a multi-inning stud, much better, I would hope, than Cotton and the ilk. Coulombe was coming into his own as a left-handed alternative. Moran has taken his place, if and when he can come back to stay in the majors. I didn't know what to expect from Stashak. Will he get a third chance with the twins, or is he gone, gone, gone. But, ultimately, the Twins didn't think of Rogers as a closer. And if you are going to be a competitive team, you should have a closer, not a patchwork. Maybe they thought Pagan was hungry again for success. That Duffey would pitch his heart out entering his free agent season (and the dream of a multi-year contract). In some ways I'm glad in the use of Duran and hope he holds up. Making a rookie the closer is a hard gamble. Hoping Duran can shine for the long-term (and beyond) as a Twin...closer of the future.
  5. When you get to the playofs, you may not need that fifth starter as much as an additional long man in the pen. Bargain bins shoping at the dollar store. If you want to compete, the Twins need to step up and give the ball to anyone better, if the opportunity arises. Sadly playing with fire and have to work Winder, Ober and Maeda into the swing of things inividually...kind of have them take the palce of each other if they aren't quite healthy. Not sure if need to continue the aRCHER EXPERIMENT FOR ANOTHER SEASON. aND NOT SURE IF aRCHER OR bUNDY INCREASED THEIR VALUE IN ANY WAY FOR 2023. We need both to be consistent right now, if that is asking too much. But it may not be enough to get to the playoffs.
  6. I would rather see keep ands or add anotehr long man in Smeltzer or Sanchez for now. At some point Moran has to come back. Are the Twins competing or not? They finally got a guy who looks comfortable closing in Lopez. Soon they will have to decide about the worth of Bundy and Archer or the future of Ober, Winder or Maeda. Don't hang onto guys like Pagan just because he might be tradable in the off-season. Or to justify a bad trade.
  7. We talk about how bad the pitching has been since Wes left the team for a return to collegiate coaching. But the hitting. What gives? Again, can't we get a pitcher past five innings?!?
  8. The Twins have to be thinking hard about adding Julien to the 40-man in the off-season. Moving Steer opened a spot for him. But they also have to consider, say, Michael Helman, too.
  9. Right now, if this was Spring Training 2023, the Twins would have 12 names, nearly half-the-roster, vying for playing time come the beginning of the season. Four rotation arms in Maeda, Ober, Paddack and Dobnak, Would the bullpen need Stashak, Coulombe, Romero and Alcala? A couple of hard decisions here. Jeffers would be back as catcher. Lewis would be an infielder of note. Aand the Twins would field a whole new outfield of Garlick, Kirilloff and Larnach!
  10. I'm excited about Ryan, Gray and Mahle getting up tpo ten starts each. I'm not excited about sending Bundy and Archer out there ten times each, but not sure who else we can give those starts to while keeping those two on the roster.
  11. I hope it isn't because of incentive-laden contracts. Numebr of games played. Days not injured. But, again, if you shut down Buxton, how long and what do you accomplish? Like Chris Archer, why is he a starting pitcher? Could we at least use an opener, maybe, in his games. Can we try him as a bullpen arm? He could potentially become a closer, which would be less innings, and still give him earning power.
  12. Moran is a good example of NOT believing everything that happens at AAA ball. Including batting averages. Major league baseball is a whole new experience. Minor leagues are for training, trying things out, and where you might rather have a player fail by trying soemthing, or working on something, than the major leagues.
  13. Varland, like Ober and Sands, are one of those you hope can make the backend of the rotation.
  14. I’m excited as I watch every game waiting for one rotation arm to do seven innings!
  15. Is 30-22 too much to ask and would it win the division?
  16. I'm starting to wonder if the Twins could have too many outfielders.
  17. What gives? Minor league starters should be stretching out at this point in the season? Henriquez is so young, folks. People forget we got him as part of the Mitch Garver trade. Glad to see him shine in long relief. Bard Peacock is also picthing well, as is Sisk, a prospect to watch. Curtis Terry gone. the 11th minor league free agent signed in the off-season that the Twins have jettisoned. More than two dozen signed. Three have gotten major league time. And the Twins have cycled in another nine since the season started.
  18. The pain is keeping these guys on the 40-man, and not having them for a good part of nexzt season. Lewis will still have to play a significant amount of time in the minors, and the Twins will need to hope Corea stays, or do a patch job with folks like Palacios in the mix. Canterino won't be back until sometime next season and the Twins will likely limit his innings, if not put him in relief situations. Chances are he will still be at AA ball. Then most of 2024 at AAA ball. If they don't add him to the roster, anotehr team might grabn him (like they did Burdi) but be forced to play him sooner rather than later (and could have the consequences that happened when the Pirates did this with Burdi). I have no trouble keeping an arm or player on the 40-man who will not produce in 2023 for the major league club. But this year the Twins have Balazovic, Henriquez, Dobnak, Maeda, Strotman, Enlow all NOT doing anything for the Big League Club. I can understand Maeda being carried. And he might till be back in September. But the hopes we had for the others is so quickly disappearing and doubtful about who should come back in 2023. And with the case of Rodriguez, you lose minor league time, and fall back. Possibly quickly passed, or you become a Baddoo situation where a team might grab you before the Twins decide to elevate you to the roster, waiting for a continued advance thru the minors. That is still a couple of seasons away, but.....
  19. The Dodgers are a pretty good team. The Twins managed some runs, a miracle!

    Where's Wallner?

Rosters only expand to 28 these days. I never quite figured that out as I would think the player's union would love to see 5-7 additional guys get major league play and join the big boy's union.
  21. Too many? No. You can also throw Archer into this mix. Coming into this season the Twins had: Ober, Ryan, Paddock, Bundy, Archer, Gray and Winder with Smeltzer, Sands, Balazovic, Henriquez, Enlow in the wings, as well as Vallimont. Enlow and Vallimont you hoped would make AAA. We figured Sands, Balazovic and maybe Henriquez would see some time in the majors. We also plugged in Gonzales, Rodriguez and Sanchez, for some odd reason. And we are sitting here on August 10th with a rotation of JUST five arms and one in the wings (Smeltzer). Most of whom can barely make it throw the fifth. I never thought the Twins would be where they are, in first place FOR MOST OF THE SEASON. Especially without a real closer. Now, they got the closer. But they still could use a top-flight A#1 rotation arm...maybe buy one in the off-season. Yes, 2023 looks wonderful. Ryan, Gray, Mahle, Maeda, Ober, Paddock, WInder. That is 7 riches. Dobnak and Smeltzer in the wings. Varlanmd is up at AAA. MJaybe Woods-Richardson and Canterino will egt some AAA innings to end the season. Then we can say that MAYBE they will be on board for some starts in 2023, and the rotation consideration in 2024. But of course we thought these guys would get some starts in 2022, and be in line for a call for fulltime rotation spots in 2023: Balazovic, Henriquez, Sands, Enlow, Strotman. We saw how that has worked out. Never enough arms. And if you feel you are set, then those probably 2023 "rookies" should've been dangled more as tradebait for a first flight rotation arm who could help next season (Montas). And, as we have seen, the best prospects can be worth zero if they don't produce.
  22. We need rotation arms to go more than 4-5 innings. Bundy is questionable. Archer should explore the bullpen, for now. Maybe that will happen when Winder or Ober come back. You need to advance that runner. And then egt them home. And the Twins will need to address catcher. Maybe Leon will be a stud for the remainder of the year! But the key is to have starting pitchers pitch like starting pitchers. You can keep rotating guys in-and-out of the pen from St. Paul, or overusing your top key arms.
  23. Wander needs to jump to at least Wichita. He becomes a minor league free agent this season, so he can go elsewhere if he wishes.
  24. He signed a good contract. If he does suepr great, he can walk and lay the market. If he doesn't (like right now) his agent can put out feelers, but he is still guaranteed a great payday.
  25. Pagan grimace? Oh, no. We need a replacement. Is Duffey still available? Can we bring him back? Or...The Return of Cotton or Minaya or THORNBURG!
