Blue Jays 9, Twins 3: Blue Jays Crush Twins
Rosterman replied to Theodore Tollefson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Let's get another inning out of Megill. Okay, I guess we shouldn't have sent him out. But then Duffey does nothing but allow Megill to look bad in the end, while he looks worse. Cotton and Moran. Two guys sent out who are better than the ones we sent to the mound yesterday. You can afford to keep one of Pagan or Duffey, if you wish, for those out-of-hand mopup games, or if you have the 9-3 lead. But right now, NOT both. Create an injury time if you really want to keep them on the team. -
Twins Minor League Report (8/3): Mikey Freakin’ Perez
Rosterman replied to Andrew Mahlke's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I don't expect Mickey to stay, but what an at bat! Lots of minor league shuffling to happen in the next 10 days as draftees find places and people move about for the rest of the season.- 17 replies

Minor League Hitter of the Month - July 2022
Rosterman replied to renabanena's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Current top prospects? Well, some have made it. Others are on life-support, which is sad (Balazovic, Enlow, Sands). But go back and look at Top Prospects and you always ask, well, where did they go. CES was having a tremendous season. His second in pro-ball, remember. I was wondering how the Twins were going to fit him into their team in the future. But, now, we get to watch the Reds field a team of many former Twins someday.- 8 replies

Will Alex Kirilloff Ever Truly Recover?
Rosterman replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was thinking Kubel, too. You can have surgery. And he has. You can take drugs, which do marvelous things, but also does things to you longer term. I start thinking Jim Eisenreich. At what point does he move past the issues and just play ball, masking his hurts and pains. Yet I also think of Chuck Knoblauch. Things just happen. I want the Twins to stay with him, work with him, and do what is best to keep him playing baseball in some capacity for the Twins as long as he can. -
Assessing the Twins Trade for Michael Fulmer
Rosterman replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Gipson-Long eligible for Rule 5 draft. I'm sure he'll get another season in the minors. I don't see a team adding them to their 26-man roster. But he would've faced a potential logjam in Twins-land come the fall of 2024. Fulmer will get a chance to shine. Pain with the signings of Lopez and Fulmer is that the Twins need to egt rid of a couple of bullpen arms. Add in the fact that Thielbar is coming back. You could say Pagan, Smith and Duffey are on the bubble, but the Twins could just as easily send Moran abck to the minors or part with Megill. Be interesting to see if Cotton stays with the Twins (he was signed to a major league contract, so he does cost a bit more if a team wants him). We also forget that the Twins recently added a slew of arms from other organizations: Ben Heller, Brock Stewart, Hunter Wood, Brad Peacock, Michael Felix as well as the dwindling list of guys signed earlier for St. Paul (down to Gossett, Jurado, M. Sanchez) as well as former Twins Minaya, Thornburg amd D. Rodriguez. -
Assessing the Twins Trade for Tyler Mahle
Rosterman replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You always give up talent, but there are now 17 new players drafted that will float into the Twins system. So only time will tell. CES will be an inetresting guy to watch. The Reds could be "Twins could've" the next few seasons if Petty also advances fast!- 46 replies

Looks like the Twins signed 17 of their 20 draft picks. So be interesting to see where a buynch of them land. And, yes, time to move "prospects" up rather than filling in the rosters (most notably AAA) with minor league rejects from mother teams.

I had wished that the Twins had included Sano in their earlier trade and taken on Hosmer and also got Campusano. I also wish they had dangled, at that time, Strotman, and taken on the Snell salary. The Twins could've afforded both and made San Diego very happy. Hosmer as a 1B/DH. We got a future catcher. A lefty starter. Lots of dollars spent. Strotman might've been tantalizing back then. Probably could've thrown in a Gipson-Long at that time, too. And San Diego might've sent some $$$ along in the deal, too.

Twins Trade for Set-up Man Michael Fulmer
Rosterman replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins will still have to make one more pitching move. So, probably Smith, as they need the 40-man spot. Not as many minor league transactions as one may think. Maybe Martin advanced to St. Paul and an outfielder. Some minor pitcher movement. Hey, the Twins traded away four of their top five 2021 draft pics. Let's see how fast some of the Class of 2022 are advanced! Gonna be fun seeing what other players across the board are designated for assignment. Hey, Brent Rooker is now a Royal! -
Twins Acquire Tyler Mahle from Reds
Rosterman replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
And, like you had Balazovic/Sands/Henriquez/Strotman in the wings this year (ugh!), you'll have Canterino/Enlow/Varland in the wings next year. Plus Dobnak and Smeltzer! -
Twins Acquire Tyler Mahle from Reds
Rosterman replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins will have to remove anoeehr body from the 40-man (Sanchez right away - nice knowing you?). Christian Encarnacian-Strand was a stud and be interesting to see how he pans out. Steer would've needed to be added to the 40-man in the off-season. But you gotta do what you gotta do to WIN! -
Twins Acquire Orioles Closer Jorge Lopez

Glad to see the Twins got "Cash" in the deal. Man, hate to see something like that be a deal breaker. Thankfully that means Lopez can fly to the Twins Cities.- 113 replies

Twins Acquire Orioles Closer Jorge Lopez
Rosterman replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Can we trade Pagan to the Brewers and get back Rogers? Good move. Lopez still has two more arbitration seasons. We were running the risk that Duran could be over used this season. Be interesting to see if Cano comes up and gets more of an opportunity with the Orioles. Amazed with Cano's numbers in the minors, but he sure got slugged around in the majors.- 113 replies

Sanchez did what was asked. The Twins need a fifth starter one more time before going back to four for a couple of series. Miranda is HOT HOT HOT! With the third abseman running in for a possible bunt in the 9th, why didn't Gordon try and steal third at least. Contreras was pretty pitiful trying to bunt. Yes, Buxton could've pinch-hit...or Caleb Hamilton (wait). You can't play with a short bench. Especially now.

Would it pay to drop Balazovic back to AA ball? That is going to be a tough off-season decision. He can become a minor league free agent if removed from the 40-man. I see the Twins have started to cull the minor league free agent roster at AAA St. Paul, but are bringing in replacements. Pinto was one pitcher that when you looked at hius ERA you were going...wow. But then half of the runs he gave up a unearned. A 1.52 WHIP. Palacios is mamking a case to be added to the 40-man during the off-season. Beckham, too. But can Beckham still play short?

I agree. One good starter and we can send Archer to the bullpen. So, we still have Bundy and Smeltzer! And pray for no mroe injuries. I wish Cano wasn't such a...BUST!

3 X-Factors for the Twins in the Second Half
Rosterman replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I actually like the Twins offense lineup...if I could just figure out what the perfect lineup MIGHT be. Has Rocco used the same lineup twice this year? You sometimes wonder. Don't players play off each other in the batting order as much as running them out according to the daily stat sheet? The only flaw in the current lineup is finding room for Sano. He should NOT be at first base. He should not bat before or after Sanchez. Those are two givens. The guys who are suffering the most with Sano in the lineup are Arraez NOT playing (which shouldn't happen) and Miranda sitting on the bench or Garlick not getting some plate time. Sano gives us a stronger bench, but a weaker lineup...so far. A few days ago the Twins had six starters who were capable of pitching in the majors. Now we are looking at three...four at best. And names like Sands, Balazovic, Henriquez are NOT part of the equation. And doubt the Twins would advance Varland, Canterino, Woods-Rchardson without extensive Triple-A time. I don't need to see any of the Sanchez's, or Dereck Rodriguez back. Strotman is doing absolutely nothing. The Twins HAVE to make a trade. And the only bright lights are that Maeda might be back and capable of throwing more innings than Chris Archer, and Ober might return. I was feeling good before the All-Star break thinking that WInder would be back with Smeltzer in reserve. But now I'm on the hook about what to do with Bundy and Archer. I wish the Twins weren't competitive as they might've been able to move both of them off the roster this week for a low-level prospect. And, of course, the bullpen. What? Where? Worn out? Tired? Better get a golf cart so they don't wear themselves out walking in from the outfield...so much.- 23 replies

C'mon, Bundy could've given us five. Is there any reason Jax can't go two these days? Sure, a hit and walk the bases loaded...with one out...he can get out of it. You are a starting pitcher and expected to be up to pitch EVERY 5th DAY But we have to send 4-5 guys out there every game because the starters can't do their job. If you want to be a major league starter, you get a rhythm, you excel as you get deeper into the game, you mix up your start. It would be different if the Twins rotation arms were hitting 100+ pitches, but they aren't. Season is more than half-done. Our starters have been given every opportunity to buildback, and most all of them can double their inning output for the remainer of the season.
