Louis Varland Has Got That Closer In Him
gman replied to Peter Labuza's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The team needs to identify and bring up next years Varland this year. Maybe 2. -
Who is New Minnesota Twins Prospect Enrique Jiménez?
gman replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
The kid sounds like he has some good tools that can get better. We need solid catching prospects, but that's the same as 75% of the teams in baseball. The story is old. If you want to play major league baseball put on the tools of ignorance. -
Many if not most of these deals had salary restrictions anchoring them. If all trades are hindered with the "do raise the salary limit" caveat, it's kind of difficult to get the best deals. There's another whole level of trades that Twins have never been able to reach into.

I'm open for trades that would make us better next year and the year(s) after. This team hasn't been going anywhere for awhile, even if they lucked into the playoffs. Just making a wild card is simply not good enough. Stewart is a good 25 inning per year reliever. But you can't really build your pen around that. You'd need 3 of him for that spot.

When Clemens is your cleanup hitter, you're not a team contending for anything. It looks like Joe Ryan will be closing in on 32 before Twins contend for anything. I wouldn't force a trade this week, but I would be open to getting bowled over by one. Maybe Joe was called by a friend yesterday about moving to Southern California an area he is from.

I would look to trade all three for a high powered relief pitcher from double or triple A. Let the pitching development group look at making the pitcher or pitchers into 6th inning pitchers. I'd also be listening if someone brought up Correa's name. Admittedly I've never been a fan and his contract is really a boat anchor. Maybe a new owner will have more bucks to spread around and make this closer to a contending team. Not just for the division crown.

Gabriel Gonzalez is a Great Hitter, but It Might not Matter
gman replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
If you haven't watched the Twins this year, then you might think there was no room for a player like Gonzalez. But if you have watched, then you know this team needs all the hitting they can get. He might not win a gold glove or steal 50 bases but this team needs guys who can hit. -
I would like to see Jenkins and Rodriguez start making this list.

I check in on DeAndrade at least once a month. I thought he had a good chance to be the Twins future shortstop, although he doesn't appear to be playing much at shortstop now with Culpepper there.

I don't like trading good players either. I don't think anyone likes it except when they get better players in return. If Willi would walk anyway, which I think, the best course is to trade him and make the best trade possible. You can choose to trade players from your own team, but you only get to pick from the best of what is offered in return.

I'm pretty sure the thought of leaving has occurred to Correa already. He has a big check coming no matter where he goes, I'm sure he realizes the career hi-lites he's missing by staying in Minnesota. I wouldn't doubt he's been expected to get traded to a contender since he signed the contract. He wanted the guaranteed money first. Probably Buxton has had similar thoughts, maybe not as long. He's knew he needed to be able to stay healthy first. You don't see him trying to plow into fences as much as he used too. Big plus, is as opposed to Correa, is that Buxton only gets paid amounts equal to a very mediocre starting outfielder unless he has a tremendous season.

Are they willing to bring up Rodriguez, when healthy, and watch him strike out 50% of the time the rest of this year? Let him get much of the rookie bugs out of his system. Then I might trade Larnach in a good trade for us.

I'd trade the same three guys as last winter, for the same reasons. Vasquez, Castro & Paddock. I don't think we'll resign any of them and if someone comes calling I'd trade them. I don't think that will improve this years team, but with Pablo missing up to 2 months and Ober looking iffy, I think we might as well see what we can get for them.

If Raya makes the Twins bullpen at some point this season, could he be a dominate reliever by next year? He has the stuff to be a dominate reliever but has not been trained in that role. As its going now, he couldn't be a factor at all next year. At least 4-5 pitchers have passed him as up and coming choices for starters. Its time to find a role for him that works. That role appears to be reliever and I don't think there has ever been a limit on how many top of the bullpen relievers you can have.
-
If ownership won't spend and they won't, there won't be any changes of note. Amazingly what would probably be their regular lineup, is healthy and back together. Now they just need more than 3 1/2 players hitting. Too bad Pablo got hurt. The July trading deadline is not the time to be expecting surprisingly good deals to occur. NO one is giving out big discounts in mid year trades.

Could Royce Lewis Benefit From a Minor League Reset?
gman replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He is not using his leg in the field nor is he using his legs on the base paths. If you watch him hit he is not using his legs at the plate either. He apparently has no right leg strength which to me shows he should be on the injured list. -
Debt could include future salaries due to players. Such as $140 mil to Correa plus another $75mil for three add on years if he meets his incentives. $50-$60 due Buxton if he plays long enough and another $50 million if he accidentally meets his incentives. $45 due to Lopez after this year. Plus appx $90 million due to the team this for the balance of this year. I am pretty sure they have about 15 years of lease obligations after this year. Not too hard to get to $450mil in debts.

Royce Lewis Returns: Trading the Hot Corner for DH
gman replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The more games Lewis sits out, the more I think he is the long term first baseman. Lee can handle third. Although only a small sample size, I think Keaschall is the future second baseman. If Carlos can hold up at short stop, this could give the Twins a set infield.- 64 replies

I suggest Keaschall wears batting armor the next time he plays. At least for the rest of this year. Jenkins may have to DH for a few months or at least until his ankle is fully healed. Rodriguez is always hurt. He may be another player who needs to rotate between the outfield and DH.
