  1. No reason to be angry with Correa. Do I think he was worth the money we spent on him? No. But that isn't his fault. One person does not make a team. I think we might have been better off getting 2 or 3 players with the money instead. (And I don't mean more prospects!)
  2. For management that wants better fan support this was not the right way to go about things. Why should we spend professional sports prices to see a AAA team? You can argue the way things were going was not moving us into deep playoff runs. But this just tells the fans that management has given up. It is a sad day to be sure. I just hope the new owners will show more of a commitment to the team without resorting to relocation.
  3. I feel bad for the Twins who did NOT get traded. They have nothing to play for.
  4. I guess we might as well watch the Saints play. It will be more entertaining than the current Twins. (While they all stay in town
  5. It is difficult to be a Twins fan. We are going back to a farm club. Rebuilding. Whatever you wish to call it we will not be competitive for years. Just when you get fooled and we get close to competing and money is spent, they destroy it all. I do not wish to see them relocate, but it does make things difficult to stomach. Management doesn't even seem to want to try and compete.
  6. Being the pessimistic Minnesotan that I am, I actually am concerned. The Pohlad's may be bad and not want to invest in the Twins, but who's to say new ownership will be better. Worst case ... they move! Look at the North Stars. Be careful what you wish for.
  7. The Twins look like they have given up and are just waiting for the offseason. Probably a good thing. Even if they make the playoffs it would not be a pretty sight.
  8. Bases loaded. Ninth inning. Down by one. I would want Arraez at bat every time.
  9. Way too much emphasis on home runs. Give me a team where people can just get on base with an added home run here and there for luck. Home run/Strike out game. Boring!
  10. I don't really agree with the argument that the Twins are not trying to field a winning team. Yes they cut spending this year. BUT they have tried to go after big name free agents and have spent money on them. Correa. Donaldson. Much more than in years past. We were a farm team for other clubs. Young talent would never stay because we would not pay. Like the draft and any trade, things don't always work out. And the Twins history of things working out is grim. Do they spend as much as the Yankees? No. They can't. They do not have the same revenue and never will. That just means the deals they do make have to work out or fans say we "should have" done ... whatever. You never know how things will work out. That's the beauty and curse of baseball.
  11. Attendance is down because baseball, like all major league sports, is just getting too expensive for the average fan to afford. To bring a family to a game on the weekend after tickets, food, parking, etc costs more than most are willing to spend. Especially with inflation raising the cost of everything else in life. You have to choose where to spend your money. Yes, owners have to pay player's huge salaries. Yes, there are other team expenses. And yes, I do believe even though owners are millionaires, baseball is a business and it should be profitable. It helps to put people in the seats even with expense if your team is winning all the time. But the Twins are not. You can argue they should spend to get better talent and therefore attract more fans. That is a gamble. As I said, it is still expensive to go to a game. You can make the game more "fun" for a fan. Make it more of a family fun day. Not everyone loves baseball but giveaways, gimmicks of some kind, kind of along the lines of what a lot of minor league teams do to draw fans would help. Broadcast the games themselves as a marketing tool. There are a number of things that can and should be done. Carrying on with the status quo will get the "contraction" word started up again. While I don't think anyone really wants to see the Twins disappear, something needs to change so that the average fan can come and see them and support them and feel like it is "their" team.
  12. Kind of shows what happens when the Twins play tougher competition and don't beat up on the lower tier giving us false hope for the season. I think it will be a long summer.
  13. I have always liked Kepler. He can have his month slump, but then comes back and more than makes up for it. His defense is very good. He never has been the weak link on the Twins roster. There are many others I would try to replace before him. The only argument you can give is that he would have been one of the better trade pieces on our roster. He might have actually given us a return. But the Twins history of trades makes me happy he has stayed around. I will be sad to see him leave if it comes to that.
  14. Perhaps I am being negative, but until we can beat a "real" team there isn't very much to be excited about yet.
  15. It is fantastic to have a great bullpen, but that is kind of a back-handed compliment. If we get down by 5-6 runs from the starters, and we cannot produce runs, even if our bullpen gives up zero runs we will be hard-pressed to win many games.
  16. At this rate it is going to be a VERY long season.😒
  17. I like Polanco. He has been good for the Twins. But induct him into the Twins Hall of Fame when he retires? Not sure about that comment.
  18. As the game (and probably series) with Philadelphia shows, the Twins are not just one or two players away from being a World Series team. We could very easily still win the lowly Central Division, but beyond that requires a lot of luck and the stars to be aligned perfectly. Very unlikely. Trading away future prospects for short term wins in a lost season would not have been a smart thing to do. You could argue instead of trying to build up their roster they should have traded some veterans to get a roster and prospects that could be competitive in the future. ie Do what the Guardians did. Personally I am happy they did not trade to try and guarantee a Division title this year. They need a real long term plan of what they are doing and where they are trying to go. Not a quick fix for today.
  19. With the current team I have no problem with this strategy. Yes we can win the lowly Central. Beyond that we are going nowhere. We have more problems than one or two players we might get in a trade. Odds would be good they would be rentals. Plus you would be once again probably stealing from our already dwindling farm team. We aren't as rich in talent down there as we used to be because of past trades. I am not sure what we do. Bring up players from the minors to see how they perform, then work in the off-season with that knowledge to try and build a competitive team. Shake up management and coaches. Going about like we have been has been a disaster. We need more thought than a knee jerk reaction to win the division.
  20. Tired pitchers? Too many strikeouts? No consistency in hitting? On the one hand I am glad we did not trade away future prospects as we have done in the past to try and upgrade this team. The Twins have way too many holes for a one or two player fix. Even if we do win the weak Central, we are going nowhere. So "why"? The question is what to do for next year. I think we need to bring up a lot of the prospects this year to evaluate whether or not they will be an asset to the team moving forward. We need bullpen help. We need a better hitting philosophy. Do we need a front office change? Very possibly. Manager change? Also possible. Their evaluation of talent leaves something to be desired. While we do have a much improved pitching staff, they traded away any hope of a reliable offense. Sadly, it is not a quick fix. Our only saving grace is that we are in the Central. Very disappointing to say the least.
  21. Bottom line is this Twins team "should" be better than it is. They should be running away with the division because the Central is so weak. This year can't be blamed on injuries. Buxton and Correa are what they are. Buxton may never play the outfield again which takes away a huge part of his value. And nagging foot problems with Correa may be what we have to look forward to from now on. Worse than all of that though is the Twins are a boring team to watch. It is painful. Top to bottom there is no excitement in the lineup. We have people who can mash the ball. Sometimes. If you have four 40 home run guys in the lineup (not that we do) that is only 160 runs. Yes there "might" be people on base but we aren't made for small ball. 1 run per game will not win many games. Yes, that is an extreme look at things and very pessimistic, but this team has not given us much to look at optimistically. I am hoping the second half is at least a little more entertaining to watch
  22. The division is pathetic and up for grabs. That being said if we do win the division we will go nowhere in the playoffs. We need to start figuring out a solution for (sadly) next year. Do NOT trade for Goldschmidt. He gives us exactly the type of player we already have in the lineup. Plus an extra 1B/DH is no help. One guy will not "fix" things. Start bringing up the young guys. See what they do. Our big money is tied up in Buxton and Correa. One who can really only play DH and the other is not having a great year which makes you wonder if plaguing injuries (foot) will hamper him the rest of his Twins career. There is almost nobody in the lineup who is irreplaceable. We need some contact guys. We can keep a few home run guys. Defense is great but if you can't hit and score runs it is worthless. Maybe try to go speed. Bunt. Steal bases. We need to shake things up. If nothing else make it more of an exciting game to watch. The strikeout/home run game is boring AND not working. I would rather lose 8-7 that 8-1. (Of course ideally we would win!) It is a shame to waste some of the best pitching the Twins have had in a while on such an anemic offense. Look at the lineups of our World Series teams. We had a variety of types of players. They all weren't clones of each other. We need to mix it up. Try something new!
  23. All of our current hitters falls in the same mold. Home run or strike out. The "Bomba Squad" was the worst thing to happen to the Twins. We got lucky one year and now feel that is the only way to go. There is zero chance to score a run if the ball is not put in play. When there was a chance to mix up our lineup a little (Arraez, Lewis, etc) we either trade them away because they don't have power, or they are injured and can't play. With Buxton's speed he should be able to get a ton of hits, but he is now aiming for more power than anything else. Maybe it is philosophy. Maybe it is all you see on highlight films are home runs. Maybe ... ??? But things need to change. The Twins are going nowhere this year.
  24. Twins struck out 12 times. 45%. That is all you have to know to explain their lack of offense.
