  1. How would you have the Twins assess that they not only are struggling but reasonably project a struggle that will continue moving forward?
  2. One game at a time... The Twins are getting contributions from all 25. Big inning from Mejia.
  3. Buxton is so amazing in the bases. His double coupled with advancing on two relatively shallow fly balls to score couldn’t have been matched by any other major leaguer. That fourth run was critical. I don’t think he needs to steal more often. I really don’t think he should be getting behind in the count by a failed bunt attempt. Give him three strikes to put the ball in play.
  4. I still don’t think they needed length this weekend. They could have used Mejia in the 7th today and pushed back May and Hildenberger but I wouldn’t have done that. I think they might need length from the pen coming up in the next few games. If Mejia isn’t used in the Astro series I will join you. In this series they didn’t need length.
  5. Did they use Harper in either game? I think they are planning for possible length against a very good Astro team with Odorizzi, Pineda and TBA as starters. If Mejia isn’t used in the Astro series I will join you in being concerned.
  6. I think they will need Mejia and Harper for length in the Astros series. Both are ready to go.
  7. Twin pitchers got a huge lead early and then pitched to contact later in counts. One walk.
  8. The options seem to be... 1) Bullpen game 2) Call up Littell 3) Perez or Berrios on three days rest If a bullpen game they will have a day off Thursday to rebound. That may depend on how much they need the bullpen leading up to Wednesday. If Littell they could return Duffey or Harper. Either would need to be down 10 days but Moya or Magill should be ready to replace them when Littell is returned. Perez had the less stressful outing and might be the better option of one of them starts on short rest.
  9. Kepler and Parker are dealing with some kind of illness.
  10. The Twins chose to add a reliever for game 2 as the 26th man. They will start both Berrios and Perez today. That pushes the problem of a starter until Wednesday against the Astros. They had other options. They could have called up Littell to start game 2. He started yesterday for Rochester but the weather was known early enough to use a different pitcher in Rochester They could make game 2 a bullpen game with the extra arm in Romero. The Wednesday game is against the Astros. They could make it a bullpen game without the benefit of the extra arm. They could send out Duffey and call up Littell for that game. They would then return Littell with Magill or Moya possibly ready. I just wonder if you would rather have that bullpen game or Littell start against the Orioles instead of the Astros. I hope there is some flexibility here. If Berrios goes deep in game 1 and they have a rested pen why not make game 2 a bullpen game? I suppose they might also cut Perez off at 50 pitches and then start him Wednesday essentially making game 2 a bullpen game.
  11. Gonzalez is a good left fielder. He is probably better than Rosario. Even with optioning Cave they will have four acceptable outfielders.
  12. There is a small window before Magill or Moya will be ready. He has a chance to pitch well and earn a spot in the pen before they return. He is off to a good start tonight.
  13. Really nice start for Perez. I would have someone ready early next inning. They could not have expected more after having been in the pen.
  14. Looks like he has the poorest defensive numbers of the three on fangraphs but I don’t see how it is meaningful. There is no way that I would release Castro. Neither Garver or Astudillo have shown themselves to be adequate catchers over any significant length of time. I also would be concerned about Garver’s concussion history. Releasing Castro and a Garver injury would leave them too thin. Garver should be the one that gets 4 starts a week unless and until he shows the same defensive shortcomings as last year.
  15. Heard on pregame that Wander Javier was close to ready and Kirilloff right behind.
  16. How many of those home runs should have been fly ball outs?
  17. Three pitches on/near the black we need to get one of those or Berrios is going to need to pitch more to contact.
  18. I guess I will stand by my all three catchers are an asset. I certainly am not going to be swayed by data in minuscule samples. Castro has the best glove and game caller. I am not sure which of Astudillo or Garver has the better bat but they both have a major league bat and catch well enough to help this team.
  19. Nice job by Castro. All three catchers are an asset to this team.
  20. It is going to take a long time before stats normalize after today’s wind blown 15 home run game in Rochester. Romero’s ERA will not be indicative at all of how he has pitched this year. It will look good for some of the batters though.
  21. They chose to keep Adrianza and his infield glove instead of Austin. I would agree. They chose to roster Cave and his ability to play across the OF though they could have optioned him. I would agree. They chose to roster both Garver and Astudillo with their bats and versatility instead of optioning one of them. I would agree. They chose to keep Castro. I would agree. I don’t see enough at bats for a third right handed DH/1B and any of those at bats are best given to Garver or Astudillo to keep them sharp.
  22. It isn’t that easy to know when to warm up Rogers early in the game. Do you start warming him at the start of the inning? After two base runners? A run scored? At any of those times they may also have survived the inning. It is going to take a few batters to be ready. Maybe they get out if it. Do you them warm him up again later in the game? Increasing the warm ups is going to wear in the arm. If they warm him up they really need to get him in instead of sitting and warming up a few innings later. Absent of hindsight it is really hard to know the best time. You always need to look ahead two or three batters.
  23. It is the current year. I think he is the better player. Are you arguing that they should have chosen Austin over Cron because 2021 might be the year?
  24. I would have thrown him out there but I would have had someone warming and a short leash. Two base runners max.
  25. A catcher can help here both in game calling and making sure strikes get called strikes. Game calling is difficult to evaluate, I don’t know if we missed out on any strikes in the 5th inning. There could have been a different result with a different catcher. The Twins certainly have had a few really long innings the last two games. Catchers have a role here. I think Castro was the catcher in the bad inning last Friday. Garver is not alone.
