  1. I assume Littell will be in the pen.
  2. The Twins need to add to the top if their rotation. The Twins need to add to the top of their bullpen. No one should be untouchable.
  3. Neither needs everyday play at SS and both benefit the club with versatility. The decision should be to develop versatile players.
  4. Gordon’s fate is in his own hands. If he hits there will be plenty of at bats for him.
  5. I think it is defense at shortstop that keeps Adrianza on the roster. Correa was out twice last year. The second time they played Bregman at SS and a guy who could have played LF at 3B while Gonzalez played LF. They had games in the second half with both Altuve and Correa out an still played Marwin in LF. I wonder if Marwin had the defense to play regularly at SS he finds a contract in free agency sooner. Arraez if sent down should be given considerable time at SS as well as some time at 3B and LF.
  6. I don’t think signing Cron was the block to signing late inning relief help. Their commitment to him is relatively minimal. I thought it would have been better to get a left handed bat to match with Austin. I was wrong. Cron is a complete player at 1B.
  7. It was Gonzalez at 1B. My mistake. As for pitches that is all on the defense. Sano catches the pop up and Arraez catches the ball at second and it is many fewer pitches. He lost two (or three outs if they get the DP) due to bad defense on routine plays. It would take a good play from the 1B but that is another out he might of got on that broken bat. The alternative was needing to strike guys out and face extra batters at the cost of more pitches.
  8. Did you watch the game? Duffey was really good. He came in with two runners on base and got an easy foul ball pop up that Sano dropped. Instead of folding he fought back to strike out the batter leaving the two inherited runners stranded. In his second inning a great pitch busts the bat of the lead off hitter and the balls falls weakly just over Cron’s glove for a hit. The second guy hits an easy come backer and he throws to second for a possible DP. Arraez drops the throw. He doesn’t fold and strikes out two of the next three with the third out being an easy come backer to the mound.
  9. The new bottom ad causes flicker, takes up too much space and sometimes moves with the scroll on iPhone and iPad. The experience is far worse than any of the handful of places I regularly go. Up until now I have never considered an ad blocker and really don’t know anything about them. Ads are the cost of using the site. That cost is too high now. My options will be not visit this site or figure out how to block them. Status quo is not an option.
  10. More runs are scored in the first inning than any other inning. The reason is clear. The best hitters are guaranteed to bat that inning. Any plan to throw one of the current Twins 5th/6th inning reliever to that part of the line up is going to fail. If a team has depth of late inning relievers to spare and can throw a very good reliever to start the game that opener role makes sense. The Twins don’t have that depth.
  11. In order for the opener to be an asset you really need to be able to spare a very good reliever to open the game. They are guaranteed to go through the most difficult part of the order. In order for this to work well you really need a surplus in the pen. I don't think anyone would argue the Twins have a surplus in the pen. For now and for the Twins it doesn't make sense.
  12. That isn’t true for me. I have always had hope in Duffey. His career xFIP has been solid as a result of solid strike out and walk numbers. I think it was Brandon Warne who had the tunneling article that I found very intriguing. I think the Twins have a major league talent in Duffey. I believe a Hildenberger is a major league talent also. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Twins utilize an option and give him a chance to reset. They sent out Gibson a few years back. Some interpreted as the end and a demotion because they had given up. I think instead they believed in him and his talent.
  13. Smeltzer and Raley for Dozier. The deal looks pretty good so far.
  14. It really gives Bumgarner some leverage in selecting his new team. Verlander had a full no trade. There may have been better offers but he had leverage over the TIgers and had to agree to the trade. Johan Santana had a no trade clause that limited the Twins ability to seek the best possible return. The Giants can go to Bumgarner and let him know that they have a deal with the Twins but would prefer the offer of a team on the list and see if he will agree to the trade. He can be compensated in the form of a very favorable contract extension to drop the no trade.
  15. I agree. A writer speculated this winter that a Gray/Buxton trade would be a good deal for both teams. Buxton has probably recovered more value than Gray to start the season but neither would be considered cheap. I don't think there is anyone we can acquire today that would be both cheap and truly helpful to this team. I hope they pay in prospects to add to the top of the bullpen or rotation
  16. I don’t think Reed will be effective short of velocity centered around 92. These are the risks of signing relievers. He was relatively young so it seemed like a good risk. It didn’t work out but it shouldn’t stop them from making a similar offer in the future.
  17. Everyone picks the teams strategically. There is no reason to pick teams that won’t trade for you. I wonder when he had to pick the teams. The Twins look like a strategic choice right now.
  18. Duffey is the 26th man. The Twins have plenty of protection in the case of two short starts. They can also option Romero or DFA Morin after game 1 and bring in Astudillo for game 2.
  19. I think Stewart has to be be replaced by Perez. He is here for Perez on paternity leave. Astudillo can be the 26th man. I don’t think Morin has options so I wonder if they would send Romero if they don’t send Cave.
  20. I think they get the 26th man for both games given the double header was scheduled more than 48 hours in advance. If Willians is ready they should be able to have him for both games. If they get through the two games without overworking the bullpen they might consider sending down Romero.
  21. I don’t know if it is any disruption at all. It may be good fortune in timing. The Twins were going to need an additional start playing 6 games in 5 days. Paternity leave is up to 3 games (or days). Either way they need him back by Tuesday to keep everyone on schedule. This way the Twins get both a 26th man and a paternity leave replacement. They keep everyone on track. They only need this 1 start from AAA and not an additional one if the baby coincided with the double header.
  22. Sano can help but I think the right-left-right in the 3-4-5 spots will continue. I expect Rosario to stay in the 4th spot.
  23. Nice analysis I would make that deal. The problem with trying to acquire a starter is everyone needs them and I think that will drive the price up though the value is comparable.
  24. I think someone will offer a top 30 prospect for Bumgarner. The Twins have a few of those in Kirilloff, Lewis and I think Graterol will get there and could be seen by the Giants in that neighborhood as we near July. They would really need to be blown away to deal him early. I think they will get offers that are in the range like Graterol + Larnach or Rooker Kirilloff + Duran or Alcala I would expect that the Giants would be willing to pay some salary to make sure the prospect return is maximized. I would expect them to look for top end prospects rather than a larger package of prospects approaching the top 100. It hurts to give up prospects and you lose on many of these deals in the long run. It still might be time to do it. I would aggressively compete for Bumgarner. If the Twins aren’t including any of the top 3 I don’t think they are really competing for Bumgarner.
  25. A response in the other thread made sense to me about Gonzalez and Astudillo. I wondered about Astudillo at 3B also. With the amount of shifting that happens in the infield it makes sense to me now that Gonzalez is a much better fit there. Gonzalez is a good left fielder and clearly better than Astudillo at that position also but I think his better infield glove is more important than his better outfield glove. We lose range in the Of with Astudillo but get plus range from the other two spots in the outfield. That response coupled with the amount of experience Astudillo has playing in the outfield every winter and the decision made more sense to me.
