  1. At this point I feel like there's no way he can live up to the hype anyway.
  2. Not that it means much, besides the odds of drafting, but 2013 #1 overall Mark Appell was also left off a 40 man.
  3. What is Polanco's ceiling? Will he ever hit 10+ HR again or was it a fluke (in a juiced ball year)?
  4. Was there a transaction with Santiago?
  5. I'd take Santana on a short-term deal, maybe Bautista fo $1 to PH. Frazier? Zero interest.
  6. When it comes to the pen, I actually prefer older pitchers. They can pitch everyday and they tend to sign shorter contracts. Most deals over 3 years go sour for pitchers, unless they're truly elite.
  7. I like this. Basically sign as much depth as they can, so they don't rush the next wave of prospects and limit how many indie-ball players appear as fourth outfielders or spot starters and long relievers during the year. Given Molitor's tendency to ride the hot hand in the bullpen, I think they should bulk up on veteran bullpen depth, where appearing 2-3 days in a row doesn't hurt their long-term development as players. I don't mind if a guy like Belisle pitches (effectively) 2-3 days in a row. It's too risky with young arms like Hildenberger.
  8. I generally wouldn't extend anyone until they enter arbitration, but I think a starting pitcher could be a wise exception.
  9. I like a few of the ideas here: Uehara, Kintzler, and others who are best in other roles but have experience when called upon. That feels like a good stopgap until someone else earns it. Don't assume a minor leaguer will move straight to that role. Has it ever happened? I keep thinking of Rondon in DET.
  10. Get 5 reliable arms in the bullpen, then worry about who pitches the 9th. While not everyone is up for the extra pressure of pitching the 9th, a proven closer is almost always an overpay. Few relievers hold down the closer title for more than a few years.
  11. I'd love Central American expansion, but it won't happen. Canadian teams already have a harder time signing free agents because of different currency, culture, etc. I don't think Central America is unrealistic though. The rich in these countries are still rich. It's everyday folk who can't afford the luxuries like MLB.
  12. Realigning divisions, more than a minor tweak here or there, is always a bad idea to me. Expansion? Meh.
  13. I think it all depends on what the FO thinks of Gordon and/or Polanco. I'd do it as the price you listed, but I wonder if that's enough. Qualifying offer is $18mil this year. It seems like Dozier is worth that, compared to other players on the market.
  14. I'm interested in older relievers, kind of like the deal Neshek just finished. 33+ relievers tend to come on 1-2 year deals that aren't a significant burden if it doesn't work out. Yes, Belisle is ancient--but the Twins really weren't out anything if they'd cut their losses. (And this example worked out pretty well in the end.)
  15. Unless Sano will cost runs on the basepaths in the first 7 innings, I'd say he starts.
  16. Why is Hildenberger pitching when he's already at a career high in IP?
  17. I like most things about the idea of September callups. Game speed is not one of them.
  18. Also, Molitor doesn't seem to trust Mejia, so I'd assume he's the odd man out.
  19. C'mon, we'll need Colon to PH in National League parks.
  20. Pitching kills the Twins all year, but when the games really count they can't hit. What a sport.
  21. What did the Twins get for Morales again? Was it a trade or a release?
