  1. Such a ridiculous idea. If a team wants 8 players standing in CF they should be allowed to do so. Rules for the sake of rules rarely add any benefit to anybody. They only add confusion. Also, how is "more offense" going to help the pace of play issue. Pick an argument, Manfred. You know what games are the fastest? Pitcher's duels.
  2. I thought you gave Jeffers a C at first. Reading comprehension at its finest.
  3. We said that about Hicks and Buxton too. It would be nice if Lewis is ready. But he probably isn't.
  4. This seems arbitrary. TB is also missing LA's superstars and LA is missing TB's bullpen, yet both are WS teams.
  5. Yes. Name the last Twins rookie to hit 30 HR...even 20.
  6. I expect Gordon and Blankenhorn to duke it out for this role, perhaps with a journey UTIL type. If one of them can play OF, perhaps both make the roster to replace Adrianza and Gonzalez. It depends how much the front office trusts either at 2B or OF. But that's a little off track. To stick to the topic, I don't think Polanco makes sense as a utility or super utility player. The stats above say why. And in the free agent example above, Donaldson got a long term deal. You generally don't shift positions for a stopgap.
  7. If there's a 2021 minor league season it will be interesting to watch innings pitched in comparison to previous years.
  8. This sounds like change for the sake of change, which is kind of the dominant theme on here lately. This isn't a problem that needs to be solved. If Lewis is ready, he'll push Polanco out. Polanco was injured this year but is a very good player. The weakness of this year's team was its streaky hitting and inability to come through in pressure situations. That's on coaching IMO. (And untimtely injuries to Donaldson and Buxton, which may be a larger long-term problem given their histories.)
  9. The Twins are contenders. In that scenario, I'm only signing a project if he projects as the 5th or 6th starter. I think Gray will cost too much for that role.
  10. I think every team has 1-2 journeymen in AAA in the event of injury/emergency. That should be the Twins' focus too. Austudillo is a fun puzzle piece, but he's not the answer to a specific position. Carry Jeffers and Garver and let them battle each other for playing time. Have a grizzled, glove-first backup with the ability to hit their weight on call just in case of injury or if Jeffers has a bad Spring Training.
  11. The original post says there is a benefit to carrying three (true) catchers. What is it? I see the benefit to carrying three when the third has positional flexibility, but none otherwise. Experience? A bullpen catcher or coach can fill that role.
  12. And yet most people act like free agency is the answer to all of a teams problems. Like most things in life, it's about finding the right balance of each method of acquisition.
  13. If the price/length is right, I'd consider: Clippard May I think there's a good shot at Odo on a reclamation deal. Huge win for the Twins on the QO situation. He'll be cheap and he seems happy here. Absolutely on Cruz, unless he's seeking 3 years. Which seems unlikely.
  14. One of those jobs pays better than the other.
  15. Yes. The worst case scenario is dead money for 1 year if he struggles. He's not getting a long-term deal anywhere. I imagine his September decline was due to his injury. Yes, he's in his 40s so he will be injured more often. But with a likely larger roster size next year, you absolutely carry him. If he drops off or is injured then the team has depth. Depth is how you win. I disagree with your assumption that payroll will only go up. We're in unprecedented times (outside of MLB) and without fans in the stands, I wouldn't be surprised to see all MLB payroll drop. It's going to be a weird offseason.
  16. Yikes. Thankful that Arraez is back, but we're still dangerously close to the .180 hitting Adrianza getting an AB. Assuming this means Marwin is at 3B. I think a lot of these moves make sense. With Austudillo and Gonzalez on the bench, the team can PH for anyone and shift around positions. I assume they're saving Alcala for the next series and planning for a couple bullpen games between now and WS where they'll utilize roster moves accordingly (though they gotta win first to get there). I can't speak for what these rosters due to chemistry, but I wouldn't roster Avila 'til a longer series, but I doubt any of these moves are of the make-or-break variety.
  17. I'm surprised how even everyone's usage has been.
  18. Definitely interesting, but I wonder if his 2020 stats are reliable for who he is. He's been playing with an injured knee and if you can't set your weight right, your whole game is off.
  19. Would have been really good if Gardy could have been managing these games in front of a packed Target Field.
  20. May has been inconsistent all year his whole career. It's why he was moved to the bullpen. It's why he's more often a 6th-7th inning arm than 8th or 9th. He's a good pitcher, but he's often overrated on this website. He's not elite.
  21. In normal years they'd drop 1-2 pitchers for pinch-hitters or defensive specialists. But without off days, I'd guess they go with more arms. Can they reset the roster each round of 2020 playoffs?
  22. Totally depends on the situation. Too many variables to plan for something like this before Game 1.
  23. Is it weird that I want Buxton on the base paths instead of hitting HRs? Ha, I'll take whatever gets the win.
  24. Since Seth mentioned it in the Blankenhorn post, does this mean families can attend the games too? I like the no off days rule. The rest...you gotta do what you gotta do in 2020. I definitely think the bubble is the safest way to do it.
