  1. I didn't see that ... do you have a link? The part about the Twins balking at Darvish asking for 6 years. I'll admit I didn't look too hard, but I didn't see that bit mentioned.
  2. Are you sure they haven't met? Or talked extensively? Darvish has a good relationship with Thad Levine from what I've read. I don't blame Darvish for meeting with other teams and seeing all that's out there for him. That said, I've always been skeptical that he would come here even amid some hopeful reports ... mind you, I'm still hoping, I'm just not holding my breath for any length of time.
  3. And of course you used math to express yourself. “Mathematics is the most fundamental type of logic possible (in physics anyway), and therefore it is easy to reason that mathematics is the best way of expressing the universe. But if we choose to ignore the murky waters of elementary logic, mathematics becomes the language of the universe simply because it has to be.”
  4. Mod note: Please stick to the topic at hand and let's not take the tax tangent any further. You are welcome to start your own thread in the sports bar about athletes and their pay and their taxes in the Sports Bar if you want to discuss that issue further. Thanks.
  5. This is a great event! I’ve been to the last ... 3 I think? Good times!
  6. Well ... do we have a starter yet from these meetings? Unless we trade someone off the 40-man, room for only one more, right? Color me ... skeptical ... at this point.
  7. Not a fan of this signing ... said it in one of the other threads.
  8. I'll see your 'bleh' and raise you a 'ugh, yuck'
  9. I know. These winter meeting discussions will just overlap. But I did mention it because there was some discussion already, including a bit more detail on it.
  10. Lol! Can't both be true?
  11. Yeah, this was mentioned here: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/28147-article-4-stories-to-watch-at-the-winter-meetings/?p=700629 With multiple threads going on the Winter Meetings, tons of overlap in conversations happening. I imagine that every thread will blow up if something big actually happens for the Twins!
  12. Not saying 'don't continue discussing this here,' but this is also being discussed, with this same Twitter post, in a 'more specific' article here. Hard to keep the overlap from occurring in these types of articles.
  13. My first choice is both! (Yeah, I know ... humming 'The Impossible Dream' to myself now.)
  14. But we have others down the pipe ... if Polanco can remain serviceable until then ... that's part of the risk. We have to give something good to get something good. Too many people package quantity over quality and that won't work. I like Gordon, too ... and would be very sorry to lose him ... and if Polanco would go into that trade instead, I'd do that ... but then we'd be left pushing Gordon ... could he be ready now? But I don't think teams who are trading away quality pitching want 'ready now' players, they want prospects so they can build again. It's all a crapshoot anyway ... so I say go for it*. But realistically, I don't think that rumored trade will be enough, but maybe. <shrug> I know nothing with this! *(Disclaimer: that is not the same as 'going all in.' That I am not suggesting ... yet.)
  15. I would, too! If there is any truth to that, I'm thinking ... why isn't it done already??? (And that it not being done already, I wonder at its truth. )
  16. Oh, d’oh! Forgot where that started. I still don’t fault them overly much.
  17. Or a typo. Or an auto-correct. My home computer tried to correct Gonsalves to a 'more common' Gonzalez until I taught it otherwise.
  18. Moderator warning: Okay, enough ... move the discussion back to the topic and move along. We are getting into stages of bickering and disrespect. This is NOT a winnable argument no matter how fervently you want to express your opinion or how fervently believe there was or wasn't any wrong-doing regarding Marte. Move along.
  19. I think this is a very good perspective to have and one I share. I might have my own opinions of what actions I like/don't like in the short term, and that will always be the case whether or not the FO becomes successful. But for the long term, over all of will these guys be truly successful, that's not gonna happen over night and patience will be required. It seems as if they've spent a lot of time ... overhauling? ... the structure of how they want things to work from minor league development to analytics with getting people in place, hopefully now they can start pushing through a little harder so we see some real activity and results. This off-season has been so maddeningly slow for baseball over all because of Ohtani. Let's hope the upcoming winter meetings changes that.
  20. I think he was referring to Hunter Greene.
  21. But if stranger things have happened, isn’t that giving perspective to lessen the surprise?
  22. And temps in Minnesota in January are a factor why? Maybe temps in April and October would be, but not sure how January is relevant unless he intends to take up permanent residence wherever he signs.
  23. It’s that to Hong Kong from SF but 10-11 to Tokyo. So what. Who knows exactly why Ohtani didn’t choose Minnesota but as some said he wasn’t going to no matter what was done. That’s too bad for us and I truly believe Ohtani missed a good opportunity. I was hoping it would be otherwise but then there it is and so it goes. Time to move on. I’ve been a lot of places and I’d certainly give Minnesota consideration. Minneapolis is one of my favorite cities, along with San Francisco, but I’ve lived there and if you’ve never been, I can see how it wouldn’t stand up in someone’s mind being in ‘the middle of nowhere’ compared to places on the west coast. Perception is very difficult to overcome on paper. Too bad he didn’t at least consider visiting before saying, ‘Thanks but no thanks.’ I blame no one but Ohtani for that choice. He asked every team to do their due diligence, wish he had done the same before saying no, but again, there it is and so it goes. I can see how LA might appeal, but yuck, I’d hate to live there, especially in summer (unless you consider Santa Barbara to be part of the LA sprawl, then I could.) But San Diego, San Fran or Seattle? Yeah, I could live there, especially San Fran. It is on the top of my list of cities, but that’s me. And again, who knows specifically why it is what it is and would doubt location alone was a factor. But maybe it ended up being more important than initially reported. Now let’s get to work Twins; don’t skip a beat and get things done.
  24. Surprise us? If so, I hope in the bullpen and not as a starter.
