No, we wouldn't be getting much back if anything, especially if we expect the other team to take on the salary ... and then you want them to toss in 'pretty valuable pieces'? Seriously ... who are our trade partners and what do you expect to get in return? And why do we need to save on salary? Any savings in salary this year do not apply to next year. So, I just don't see it. Remember how we all thought we'd get a ton for Santana? The lesson in that is we should have ridden out Santana's contract and that's what we should do (imo) with Correa. We are better with him than without him. First off, no non-contending team will want him or need him. Non-contenders aren't buyers, they are sellers. And they want controllable prospects in return, not a rental. Next, look at all the contenders ... which of them needs a SS? When you determine that, then apply what I first said ... if they are paying his salary for the remainder of the year, and only have Correa for a couple months, they are not giving us 'pretty valuable pieces' in return. You can dream of it all you want, but it's not happening. Third, if we are contending ourselves, and we trade Correa, who plays SS? We have just made our team that much worse, and probably just took us from contending to, well, not contending. Fourth, Correa is not obligated to tell the Twins his plans until after the season is over. Okay, maybe they can work out an extension and sign him long term. I'd be up for that, but no way is he telling us if he is going to opt in or out. But if the Twins approached him and said ... 'Tell us now what you intend or we're trading you' ... we would likely never sign another superstar player ever again. That is just a terrible way to treat a valuable employee. Fifth, horrible, horrible thing to do to the fans and the clubhouse. Correa has had a big impact on the clubhouse and his teammates. Bad, bad, bad PR move and then some. Lastly, supposedly, Correa said he liked playing in Minnesota. He seems to have an affection for his teammates her in MN. He and Bux make quite a pair. But ... I don't know if those are reasons for him to opt in to stay here and deny himself the opportunity to sign a long-term contract elsewhere. Part of me really hopes he stays, whatever the cost, but, that is a pipe dream.

Oy, I tire of the 'trade Correa' talk. Trading Correa makes this team worse, not better. Who plays SS if we trade him, and we're contending? You don't trade away a significant part of your team when you are contending. You aren't getting significant help for him, either, and certainly not major league ready help. First, identify which contending teams need/want a SS. Those are the only teams that would possibly trade with us. They aren't returning any major league pitching to us because they need that themselves. And we aren't going to get a lot in prospects, and I don't want to trade for prospects. This is about making trades to help us now. Correa is not on the list of 'Who do we have to trade?' All you've suggested is getting rid of two players you don't like, which gets us nothing, and puts us in a worse position when we are trying to win.

Well, that's actually not my worry, but there is that, too. We already have huge problems with people 'drag racing' on streets in the late hours ... I hope this doesn't promote more of that.

I don't necessarily distinguish the pipeline to be all Twins developed alone. Part of the pipeline for me also includes what other prospects from other teams we acquire, no matter how close to MLB ready they are, and continue with their development. These 'outside' pitchers are still feeding the pipeline, imo. I get what you're saying with Ryan, though, but, if the Twins had done better last year, and injuries to both Maeda and Dobnak hadn't been a part of that, along with the trade of Berríos (which wouldn't have happened if we had done better), doubtful Ryan would have gotten as much exposure last year as he did. So, in that regard, I do still consider him part of the pipeline.

Eh, maybe … if there was an outside factor, I don’t think it was him being a Yankee, but growing up down the street from Dodgers Stadium. That said, if we are playing the if game, if Stanton didn’t hit his HR, does Buxton still hit his? Initially, I was kind of miffed about it, but I don’t think it was a snub, either.

I don’t think they fill all their holes … no team can or should do that. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be buyers, and that will require some of our coveted prospects. I expect it to hurt a bit, and I expect some to not be happy, but it’s what it will take … a la Petty for Gray, or Graterol for Maeda. But I don’t think this FO will sell the farm, either. If we can get a starter and a RP or two, I think that makes us competitive enough. I’m hoping some RP help comes in the form of Alcala and Maeda, so perhaps only one. While I don’t relish another playoff loss to the Yankees, it’s not a foregone conclusion, either, and you don’t fold it up and not even try for the playoffs because you dread facing them or dread being one and done. The goal is to make the playoffs and go on a tear. Don’t let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.

And Stanton tied it up with a 2-run home run. I guess I don’t view this as a snub for Buxton, but Buxton did get the first post-game interview. Oh, and as much as I dislike the Yankees, let’s not hope for world catastrophic events to get rid of them

I can't imagine the Twins will just release Sano without giving him another chance. And they won't DFA Gordon or Garlick. (I thought Garlick had an option left?) For sure not Gordon. But they will need to remove someone from the 40-man when Sano's rehab assignment is over. There are choices there, but wonder who ... Cotton, Smith, Strotman, maybe Godoy? But who to send down ... I think that might depend Buxton and if they need to keep Celestino around. If they think they can get by with Gordon in CF, then Celestino goes down. But, Miranda would be the one who becomes the extra, just would hate to lose the bat, unless Sano really brings it. Whatever the choice is, many won't like it.

I think at the the beginning of the season I said around 80 wins because pitching, pitching and pitching. Those were and have been my three caveats. And now that we are into the season, I’ll add inconsistent offense to that mix. We have offense, good offense, but it doesn’t always come in the right spot, and that cannot be explained away by the quality of the other team’s pitching as some have excused.
