  1. Yeah, when that guy told me to look at an invalid stat like OPS, that was an invalid argument from him. It was pretty awesome when I mentioned using wOBA and wRC+ instead of the invalid OPS. Don't continue to be someone else's errand runner, you are no good at it.
  2. As the late, great John Lennon said, Give Peace a Chance Two, one-two-three-four! Ev'rybody's talking 'bout Bagism, Shagism, Dragism, Madism, Ragism, Tagism This-ism, that-ism, is-m, is-m, is-m All we are saying is give peace (and Joey Gallo) a chance
  3. I don't enjoy that many strikeouts and that low of a BA. Gallo is an extreme case that I don't support, which is my right. I don't need to change the way I view players, thanks for the condescending advice though. Geez, I said in my original post that maybe I'll change my mind on Gallo after seeing him consistently. I understand the theory that Gallo is a productive player. I don't entirely agree with that logic and would have preferred the Twins not have him on the roster. I realize that Gallo could find his swing and destroy that right field wall in Target Field and crush 40 HRs. I hope it happens and I misjudged Gallo. I'd still pass on that many strikeouts and low BA long term and on multiple players. I don't believe a lineup full of Joey Gallo at the plate is a winning team while 9 Luis Arrarez clones at the plate is a winning team.
  4. Save the lecture, I do consider those factors. Actually, I use wOBA and wRC+...
  5. My issue is that even if Gallo has success in his traditional ways, I don't believe that is an overall productive baseball player. Too many strikeouts and sub .200 BA does not play in my book. Maybe seeing Gallo consistently and successful will change my mind, though I doubt it.
  6. I'm right with you on that. I've been saying for years that when/if Joe Mauer gets elected to the Hall of Fame, I will make the pilgrimage to Cooperstown.
  7. Prospects are suspects until they prove it long term on an MLB field. Human nature is to get excited about and overestimate the top prospects of your favorite club.
  8. For the food issue, there are solutions. Eat right before you leave. Most people should be able to go five hours without eating (travel time and game time). Get cheap fast food on the way to the stadium. Bring your own food: Outside food is allowed into Target Field. Hard-sided containers (Tupperware, hard-sided coolers, Thermos’) are not allowed into Target Field. No outside food may be brought into any bar, restaurant, or suite areas at Target Field. Bring your own water bottle: Sealed, bottled water 32 oz. or less, and soft sided single juice or milk containers for children are the only outside beverages permitted into Target Field. Check out the cheaper concession stands (assuming they will bring this back in 2023, this is 2022 information). Family-Friendly Pricing Item Sections/Portables Price Hot Dog Sections: 133, 327 $4.00 Soft Pretzel Sections: 133, 327 $4.00 Popcorn Sections: 133, 327 $3.00 Peanuts Sections: 133, 327 $3.00 Fountain Soda Sections: 133, 327 $2.00 Bud/Bud Light Can Sections: 133, 327 $5.00
  9. You probably aren't going to make it through the entire game with little children whether you get $4 SRO or are in the owner's suite. This is just an idea that I will spitball - you could get the $4 tickets and go cheap. Depending on how many children, you are in the door for probably $12 - $20 for the entire family. You could have the children and their mom hang out in the turf area in right field with the games, chairs, and open area while you stand at the right field ledge (within their sight) watching the game. If your wife is really a fan, you could switch places and she could watch some of the game. This plan of action should get you through a few innings and maybe the children will stand and watch as a family for an inning or two. If you don't like this plan and really need a seat, I'd recommend the family section. There are reasonably priced tickets with a hot dog and soda built into the cost of each ticket. I brought little children to many games over the years (my children are ages 10 up to 25) and making it through the entire game was a rarity.
  10. Minnie and Paul's and Twins Pub they aren't going to bother you. I believe Truly on Deck has inside tables served by wait staff where they want you ordering. They have an outdoor patio, which I think is a confusing mixture of reserved tables and open tables/chairs. Honestly, at less busy games you shouldn't have an issue finding someplace to sit. Busy weekend games, etc. the worst case scenario is that you are leaning on one of the ledges down the base lines. For $4 with no fees, you might experience some discomfort. If Target Field is super busy and you are struggling to find a place to sit, it most likely means the season is going well.
  11. I believe you could also find a seat at Truly on Deck, Minnie & Paul's, and Twins Pub. These are all free areas where you find a seat and see the action. Gray Duck Deck has ample standing areas with rails. Full details on bars and restaurants here: https://www.mlb.com/twins/ballpark/bars-and-restaurants
  12. Best deal in town. $4 with no fees to watch the best baseball players in the world. Where are the whiners that attending an MLB game is so unaffordable?
  13. Ok, well after I've been savaging the pathetic Minnesota Vikings since their embarrassing loss yesterday, I do agree that baseless rants are fun. I'm just wondering what you think the details are that are going to be the problems with robot umps. Beyond the league adjusting to a new strike zone and potential technological issues, what are the objections? If the robot ump stops working, you still have the human ump behind the plate to make the calls. I don't think anyone believes it will be a 100 percent seamless transition. There never is with new technology and new projects such as this. It has to be better than what we have and the errors are only highlighted with the strike zone right there on the screen. Pitch framing is a ridiculous "talent" which I'll be happy to see disappear.
  14. How will there no less controversy, pray tell?
  15. I was against replay reviews when it was first introduced. I am still against replay reviews, at least in principle. However, I have grown used to replay reviews and can see the benefits. That being said, I am completely in favor of the robot umpires for balls and strikes. The annoyance of watching a home plate umpire have a bad day is off the charts. Then, the floating strike zone for veterans or guys with pinpoint control or batters with the reputation for a good eye is beyond aggravating. It's time to put that all away and have the automated strike zone. Also, no more ridiculous pitch framing.
  16. This reminded me of Randy Dobnak, who also has been seemingly forgotten in these parts. MLB.com tells me, "January 13, 2023 Minnesota Twins invited non-roster RHP Randy Dobnak to spring training."
  17. "You gotta get a ring here to be the best." Maybe so for an NBA player or an NFL quarterback. Not for a baseball player, though.
  18. I believe it's reasonable that the Twins were still in the divisional race through the final game against Cleveland on September 19. The Guardians won 11-4 to move 7 games ahead of the Twins in the standings, effectively ending the Twins season. Correa went 2 for 3, ending the day with a .285 average and .829 OPS. His season ending was a .291 average and .834 OPS. In the 15 remaining games after September 19, Correa had 1 HR, 4 doubles, and 6 RBI - not exactly padding those stats during garbage time as suggested. FYI, the Twins started that 5 game Cleveland series on September 16 behind Cleveland in the standings by 4 games, so I'm not sure how you could have counted the Twins out of the race before then.
  19. The first shortstop that came to mind as competition was Gagne. He was solid, steady, and dependable for 10 seasons, 8 as the starter. The top of the list isn't actually too bad and better than expected - Smalley, Polanco, and Gagne are all fine players. Correa had better surpass all three for $200 million. My hopes are two World Series titles with Correa at shortstop and Carlos inducted into the Hall of Fame with a Twins cap.
  20. Nice take, agreed that the Twins somehow landed the #1 shortstop in the game for ages 28-33 seasons and the (long suffering) Minnesota fans need to enjoy it. For a decent price with control at the end of the contract. Enjoy the ride in 2023 with Correa leading the charge, enjoy superstars Correa and Buxton on the field together, enjoy the Correa Hall of Fame introduction ceremony as a Twin in 20 years, enjoy it all.
  21. I'm glad people found deals. Weren't they for the outdated merchandise, though? My experience was I gave my Correa shirt to charity when it first appeared he wasn't returning to the Twins. Then, a thrifty friend gave me a Correa shirt for Christmas, which I told him I'd use it for yard work. Now, I'll wear it much more often for many years.
  22. What are you unsure about? Bauer's suspension was reduced and he was reinstated. Per ESPN.com, "The Dodgers are on the hook for the $22.5 million Bauer is owed for the final season of his contract but would save $720,000, the major league minimum, if another team signs him in the open market." It's fine if you don't want the Twins to consider signing Bauer. The suspension and contract information is factual, though.
  23. That's like worrying about how you will pay the taxes if you hit the Powerball.
