  1. I trust him but not 100 percent. This middling level of trust only comes because of Perk's experience (and I shamefully admit I also place some trust in him because he is one of us). He did look good two outings ago.
  2. Don't be afraid Grasshopper. The Twins will win plenty of these final 13 games to stay in the mix until the end. Have faith.
  3. Time for our Santana to earn those millions tonight - Smooth.
  4. If that's the case then why not run it like the high school playoffs and have everybody make the playoffs and just seed them 1-30 and be done with it. Of course there is some subjective line drawn to determine who makes the playoffs, there could be no other way. The one game playoff is what cheapens the game and ruins the integrity. They play 162 games for 6 months and it comes down to one game? In baseball? Maybe in football that is a legitimate solution to determining a champion but not baseball. There is a reason why they have played 5 and 7 game series over the history of playoff baseball - any valid big league club has a pretty decent chance of beating another big league club on any given night (more so than in any of the other major sports). It never has been a one game series in the playoffs until this second wild card team was introduced. If we have our hearts set on expanding the playoffs, why not shorten the regular season back to 154 games, expand the playoffs to 16 teams, and then play a full and legitimate playoff series the first round. Byes and 1 game playoff series make MLB seem to me like a slow pitch softball tournament run on a weekend on the fly by people making the rules up as they go along. I get the reasons why MLB keeps expanding the playoffs but don't agree with the rationale. Again, I am still against the DH in the AL so realize I am old school and probably going against the grain of what the majority of the casual fan supports.
  5. I don't like the new WC format - it cheapens the integrity of the game and the 162 game schedule. It turns the MLB playoffs into something that resembles a beer league softball tournament. I do agree with you that we are experiencing the WC benefits this year with the Twins but the few teams it impacts positively every year does not compensate for the negatives of the extra WC team. Mind you, I still think the DH is sacrilege.
  6. How much concern should we have regarding Sano's decreased productivity? It seems the league might have "figured him out" after his initial splash.
  7. Prediction: 12-4, beat Packers in NFC Championship game and SB victory.
  8. Since it's possible that Perk might be closer to washed up status than in his prime it makes sense. Not sure why Perk would be a lock for 2016 closer role given his 2nd half performances the last couple of years.
  9. Go saints! There is ample parking at the stadium. The rumors of parking problems are just wrong. Enjoy tomorrow's game. I was there tonight and it was fun to see the Saints get back on track. Go Saints!
  10. Honestly, there is no bad seat at CHS. They pretty much thought of everything. I like to be in my seat for the beginning of the game then walked around the park for a few innings - there are great views on the entire walk around the stadium. Although I am not the biggest fan of the berm - too steep.
  11. That's why they play the games. Some teams win when they aren't necessarily the 'best' team. Too much reliance on advanced metrics can sometimes blind you to reality. These Twins are hanging in there on luck, grit, determination, manager, and Sano. I don't think the stat geeks can validate this season's success yet.
  12. It was a great season and a great atmosphere at CHS Field. The new stadium is gorgeous and you are right that it is an electric atmosphere. However the way the matchups in the playoffs ended up in the first round make it to feel like a slow pitch softball tournament. Having two teams with winning percentages over .700 meet in the first round is just wrong.
  13. What are your thoughts on how the AA runs the playoffs? Saints have to play Sioux City in the first round - they are the top 2 seeds by far but the Saints told me seedings are based on geography not record. To top it off, the Saints are given home field advantage even though Sioux City has a better record as of today by two games. These two decisions seem to be motivated by $ - less travel costs and larger attendance- despite logic and fairness. To me it underscores that you go to Saints games to have fun and enjoy the atmosphere with serious baseball watching an afterthought.
  14. Geez you guys need to lighten up and have some fun. Do the wave with your children, you will survive.
  15. Hey listen, I understand your dislike of the wave. It is silly and stupid and distracts from the game. But, it is Fun and fun is the main reason most "casual" fans go to the ballpark. Sometimes in life we just need to accept something is technically "wrong" but we just have to live with it. I consider myself a baseball purist - the DH is stupid and the Wild Card is an abomination. I was also at Friday night's game and had a sick feeling in my stomach when the wave got rolling. But, let's put it in perspective - it is still August and we are only a Gardenhire-era late season collapse away from last place. Sometimes we just have to accept things, smile, and get along. And yes, I did participate in the wave on Friday, just like I did in the 1980s at the Dome when the wave was considered new and cool.
  16. It sure would have been nice to have him there to pinch hit last night.
  17. The one game WC format makes it feel like a slow pitch softball beer league tournament. It cheapens the game and needs to be done away with. But yes, it works to the Twins advantage this year.
  18. This is why we play the games. Dream scenario is to sneak into that second WC spot, travel to New York and stun the Yankees in a one game playoff.
  19. Who knows, things always change and you might be ahead of the curve on this one. I remember when it was standard for starters to throw complete games and closers to pitch 2-3 innings.
  20. It sounds like a solution that a beer league softball team would put in place. But it might just work for our little scrappy Twins club. How ineffective would Perk be if his slot came up and he wasn't starting the 9th with a three run lead but starting the game?
  21. First inning of the A-Rod grand slam game. He avoided contact and just looked all around pathetic. Not a key play by any means but representative of Mauer's season.
  22. Bench Mauer or send him back to catcher and drop him to ninth in the order. That pathetic play - the non-collision at first with CC is a perfect summary of Joey's pathetic season. No guts and wimping out and worst of all not hustling 100 percent. Hard to believe this wuss was almost a QB at FSU.
  23. It would be nice to see them cap off this memorable season with a championship. But, doesn't cheering for a championship go against the Saints vibe of "Fun is good"? Still it would be a shame if this club didn't get the title after the season they have had.
