I don’t collect autographs anymore, but one thing I do have and will keep for life is a 2003 spring training program signed by Joe.     Salsa is on the agenda this weekend! I dug up 2 white onions earlier this week and let them dry out for the occasion. I’ll have 10-12 more tomatoes to pick tomorrow along with 5-6 long peppers.

    Yeah, if Correa and Buxton are both broken down players, we’re about to enter times darker than the late 90s or the early 2010s. Part of me believes Correa got so discombobulated after the free agency he just experienced that this was going to be a rough year no matter where he signed. Getting 2 10+ year contracts only for the team to pull away at the last second has to affect a person mentally.

    It’s just sad talking about Buxton like this so soon. I’m sure we all figured it would end like this with Buxton’s body betraying him. The hope was it would be delayed until his age 34 or 35 season. Not when he’s 29.

    Good article Seth. Whoever they acquired today wasn’t going to move the needle enough. Frankly, if Buxton and Correa don’t hit even previous career norms, there’s nothing they can do to fix it. Part of me wants to believe that Joe Pohlad told Falvey this is your mess. Win with the players you chose, or you won’t be running the show after the season.

    After the week the Twins just had, they left Falvey no choice but to trade away these MLB players. Let’s see it happen.

    Any fleeting thoughts last week of trading for an impact bat/arm (choose your fighter of Goldschmidt or Hader) is gone. The performance during a crucial time before the deadline was lackluster at best. Falvey, like several GMs in the game, decided to wait until the final 48 hours to be buyers, sellers, or stand pat. The roster screams Sell! Sell! Sell!

    Crucial time in the season, and the last impression before the deadline is a 5 game losing streak. Offense reverting back to its old ways, and the pitching crashing back to Earth. They’re practically begging Falvey to sell for the future tomorrow.

    Both of these teams have essentially bought their teams over the last couple of years. It’s interesting to see the strategy work out well in Dallas, and disastrously in Queens.

    The Hader situation is nearly identical to ours with Sonny Gray. A team trading for him will need to make the return more valuable than a QO draft pick. So, as we’ve reasoned in other Gray trade discussions, a draft pick in the 40 ish overall range is like a borderline top 100 prospect. I don’t think 20-25 innings from Hader is worth someone like Raya or Emmanuel Rodriguez.

    I like this development. If there are that many buyers, then the Twins should zag the other direction. There is no other team to fear in the AL Central. I would call every team in the AL East and SEA/HOU/TX. See who is starving for pitching and willing to overpay for Gray or Maeda.

    With nothing to go on but a gut feeling, I think there will be a trade completed today before Polanco is activated.

    The only spice I would seek this year is shopping the guys on expiring contracts. They might get blown away by an offer from a pitching starved team.

    Buxton activated from paternity leave, Larnach sent back to St. Paul But really, I’m most curious about the upcoming transaction when Polanco is activated.

    Agreed. Over the last decade if we bet the under on Angels wins every year we would have our mortgages paid off. I don’t blame them for taking this path… No one in baseball wants to be known as the executive who traded away the modern day Babe Ruth. That’s a legacy defining move. If the Angels don’t acquire a star player, that GM isn’t getting another chance to be a GM.
