    From the White Sox perspective, I wouldn’t hesitate selling off anyone not named Luis Robert on their MLB team. Who cares if the rotation is 5 Aaron Sanchez types for the last 2 months? They’re way out of it.

    I give Falvey credit for not investing further into a sunk cost if they didn’t believe they could fix Lopez. Terry Ryan would have milked every day of control Jorge Lopez had before giving up.

    They don’t have much of a choice but to go for it this year. There’s no way to get fair value in a trade for the best player on the planet, even when he’s a rental. Selling Ohtani also brings a huge risk of alienating and losing their fan base.

    Joey Gallo was a 4.7 bWAR player in 2021. Even though I hate his style of hitting, it made sense why Falvey chased the upside. Nothing wrong with gambling on 2022 being a fluke and rebounding back to a 3-4 WAR player. We could have kept him for a playoff run, or flip him for a decent return… Whelp, that hasn’t happened. He’s a replacement level player, and time is up. Do the right thing, Falvey.

    I’m out of the loop on a tragic diagnosis for his son reading through these comments. I was confused by the trade from a baseball standpoint. But this trade appears to be more of a personal life decision that both GMs agreed to do. Kudos to all involved.

    Wow. They gave up Lopez and his 2024 arb 3 season for a rental reliever.

    I was wondering about that as well. Celestino may be on their list too. Besides that, not too many position players are in St. Paul and fits their rebuild timeline.

    5 days before the deadline, and the Angels are 52-49. 3.5 GB in the wild card, 6.5 GB in the AL West. Heating up a bit, going 7-3 in their last 10 games. In recent days, Baltimore and Tampa became the front runners to acquire Ohtani. Both organizations have highly rated systems and enough top 100 prospects to make something work. All of that said, I still don’t see the Angels trading Ohtani. They’re never going to get full value in a trade for the best player on planet Earth. This is a type of trade that defines legacies for GMs. I think too much is at stake, and they keep him to try and make the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

    The first name I would ask about as an opposing GM is Kirilloff. He would be the most expensive to acquire, but you know they’re asking.

    Agreed with all of your points. I also think bullpen arms aren’t a top priority. In fact, I would rather see one or more of Balazovic, Sands, and Ortega progress to more frequent, higher leverage work. Stewart and Thielbar are coming back soon. If we add another old veteran, all of the younger pitchers are back in St Paul. Keuchel not opting out is certainly worth keeping an eye on. Makes me wonder if there’s an arrangement made that he will be activated if/when a trade is made?

    Perfectly stated! I don’t know how sustainable this run is, but for now I am enjoying the wins.

    Good week overall. SSS, but the offense numbers as a whole look very encouraging since the All Star Break. 8th in BA (.271) 5th in OBP (.360) 1st in OPS (.859) Correa needs to stay hot. I would love to see him hit an OPS of .800 or more this month.

    This week’s pepperoncini pepper harvest! We found a recipe for refrigerator peppers and gave it a try! In 3-4 weeks we’ll see how good they taste.

    No doubt, I’m with you. I have no qualms about Castro keeping this role over Gordon when he returns.

    Long term plans? No, not yet anyway. Depends on what he’s projected to get in arbitration… That might price himself out of the role.

    The Rockies have next to nothing of interest to trade… CJ Cron is fine. I guess I’d trade a minor league filler like Mark Contreras. Zero interest in Bard or Hand. They should probably get out of the Kris Bryant contract while they are able to. Colorado has some under the radar awful contracts on their books. Kyle Freeland for some reason is locked in for 4 more seasons around $15 million per year. Antonio Senzatela is also, for some reason, locked in for 4 more seasons around $11 million per year. Bard guaranteed $9.5 million next year. Gross.

    It still amazes me we were able to trade Donaldson away and not have to eat any of the remaining money on his deal.
