What do you think it would take to get Henry Davis from the Pirates? Maybe a solid pitching prospect? Maybe an outfield prospect?

So what you’re saying is he is Jair Camargo? Who we already have in our system and can play for league minimum? No thanks!

When you have zero financial flexibility these are the moves you can make and have to talk about. I hope he can be a major league catcher, I’d rather use guys like Helman at 2nd base and someone with some power at 1B. Twins can just hope for the market to completely dry up or all the free agents to be gone so teams are more willing to make unique trades. With Josh Bell getting 6 million I don’t think the markets drying up

Just because he doesn’t get taken in rule 5 doesn’t mean the league doesn’t think he can translate. Having to stay in majors and fit a position or spot on 26 roster is a huge part. (Extremely hard to keep a 1B only guy on a 26 man roster as a bench piece) The Saint/Twins did a nice job of adjusting Wallners swing at AAA in a month or so. I mean maybe he can maybe he can’t hit in the MLB. I just like the hard hit rate and as an option at 1B other then just Julien and Miranda. I really don’t want any of the affordable 1B free agents just to give ABs to lost causes.

I am a big Wallner fan! He is getting better at putting the ball in play which is huge while still hitting the ball hard. Be glad to see him take over RF everyday in 25. Still hoping they can trade for Bob Seymour from the Rays to platoon at 1B. Put up similar # to Wallner at AAA and huge exit velo #s. And fits our budget constraints.

It’s not at all a lose lose. We already have Correa under contract, it’s a spent cost. The problem with baseball is that the teams with month have figured out that they are only competing with the other 6 teams who have $ and every mother organization is just a feeder team. Why would they spend prospect capital or future star when they can just wait till free agency. Baseball finances are broken at this point but until things change Correa contract is a sunk cost let’s enjoy his play while we have him and hope some pieces around him play above there contract worth.

What's Left at First Base in Free Agency?
High heat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As sad as it sounds with current payroll Joey Gallo looks like the best fit (would take a million dollar maybe 2) The best defensively and lefty bat to platoon with Miranda. Letting Julien prove it and learn 1B in the minors. Polar bear, Santana, Turner, Rizzo are all signing for more then 5 or 6 million. Unless the market all drys up and someone’s left out in the cold come late February.- 81 replies

I actually don’t think this is a bad idea for a million or 2 if there is some adjustments you saw and can see. Our hitting coach was I’m Baltimore with him if they were previously working on something. ButI’m guessing he is going to get a bigger deal elsewhere based on the current market we’re seeing. Sadly these are the guys we are going to be shopping for in the scratch and dent pile. When guys like Kepler are getting 10 million and we have next to nothing to spend. Jimenez signing would also give you flexibility to move guys like Miranda or Larnach in trades for valuable pieces.

I think what we have found out lately is the difference in offensive production needed from 3B to 1B down the defensive spectrum. If Amick can play a solid 3B the bar for a good bat at 3B is much different. I thought when they drafted him they weren’t sure he could stick at 3B and would likely need to move to 1B. Hopefully his athleticism suprised and playing a good big league 3B isn’t out of the question.

He might be a nice bullpen piece, Twins must see something like they can add a couple MPH moving to the bullpen and restructure the pitch mix. Reminds me a lot of Alcala. I thought they would go 1B but maybe they like Miranda and Julien at 1B more then I think.

Totally agree with you! They have other bullpen pieces and outfielders who are very similar profiles to what you would get in the rule 5. What they don’t have is a 1B. If they have next to zero dollars to spend this offseason it would make sense to bring in a firstbaseman platoon with Miranda or even make him available for trade and let Julien hit and work out defensively at 1B. Its a low cost option to bring some competition into ST at the least and cost to next to nothing if it doesn’t work out.

I think there is a better chance we call and resign Michael A Taylor. He is probably more in our price range.

I am an advocate of moving Larnach only because he should have value. He also has not been able to stay healthy or productive for long stretches in his career. he is entering arbitration so if he put up good numbers as he did in ‘24 he gets expensive quickly and he can only play LF/DH.

I think Paddack and Larnach get packaged together for a bullpen piece and a prospect. I think Castro gets moved for a prospect package. A cheap 1B and COF signed for cheap. LF becomes a rotation of Martin, Helman Kersey and addition until Erod is ready.

I could see them moving Jeffers and keep Vázquez. Jeffers has much more trade value and will likely get much more expensive after this season. I could also see them moving Castro and getting pieces back for a 1 yr player would you got a ton of value out of from a minor league signing.

I could see the Twins looking at Bob Seymour 1B from the Rays. Has similar profile to Matt Wallner and similar # at AAA. Big Lefty with massive exit velo numbers. A lot of swing and miss to his game like Wallner, but if can make enough load contact.

I have to agree with you. I think Kersey replaces Margot role and Helman replaces the Farmer role for a league minimum. If they find other replacements maybe things change.

The only thing at the Winter meetings I’m interested in is the rule 5 draft. Do the Twins select someone? With the payroll situation do they think it’s the cheapest way to add a 1B option or RH outfielder or Long man? Things you can usually find in the rule 5. There might be ground work set but recently not a lot of actual moves have come out during the winter meetings.
