  1. No No No No. the Twins are stocked with quantity in Starting Pitching. Joe Ryan has shown some flashes of potential in being more than a #3 or #4 level of a starter. The Twins clearly have confidence in him, evidenced by naming Joe as the opening day starter. I’m hoping for a boring off-season for the Twins. The 2022 season was marred by injuries. So, get a stop-gap shortstop until one of. the younger players (Lewis, Martin ….) is worthy of taking over. Add some depth at catcher. Then take advantage of any last-minute opportunities that are available (like Carlos Correa last year). .
  2. Not only would Correa require a huge long-term contract but he would block other players the Twins will soon have ready at Shortstop: Lewis, Lee and Martin (currently excelling in the AFL). Only one of those three has to stick at Shortstop to make it a lousy idea to give an expensive, long term deal to Carlos “Shops at Dior” Correa. Moreover, a recession is likely, leading to a likelihood of even lower attendance than last year. Keep the powder dry and use it when there is an opportunity. Don’t get into bidding wars at this time.
  3. To partially use an analogy from Carlos: I would rather have the Twins sign a guy from Northern Tool and Equipment than go to Dior to sign Correa. - a chain saw rips through the opposition better than an overpriced gold chain.
  4. I’m expecting the off-season conversation will be whether Joe Ryan can be a legit ace or if he’s something less than that. But for now - enjoy the nice run in this disappointing season.
  5. I think Carlos lost the fans and management with the Dior reference.
  6. Injuries doomed the Twins this year. Without them, they are the team that was a consistent winner in April and May. In 2023, a healthy Twins team should be an improved squad with the additions of Maeda and Mahle to the rotation, and adding Matt Wallner’s bat, along with Trevor Larnach. Question marks are Polanco (is he overrated by us?), Kepler (Will he really significantly improve at the plate with the end of “the shift”) and the entire situation at Catcher. I believe it is unlikely the Twins will suffer a similar tsunami of injuries. There is room for optimism after this disappointing season.
  7. With larger bases, stolen bases and bunting will return to the game at least a little
  8. I was in attendance. It’s. Hard to put up more runs with Sanchez as DH and Cave starting. It was a game I so much wanted to see the Twins win for two reasons: 1. To punish all of the fans who left way too early. I saw a group leaving after 3 innings (apparently worried about getting a kid who looked 12 years old to bed on time - they could have taught that kid a good lesson - IF YOU ALWAYS LEAVE EARLY, YOU GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL MISS THE MOST EXCITING GAME YOU WILL EVER SEE. In fact, that almost happened last night 2 To punish the Guardians for the crappiest defense. It was t just the errors
  9. I love the State Fair. But - bring back Zambora the Gorilla Girl to the Midway (the version where the Gorilla escapes - not the sanitized version). Meanwhile, the Twins could have a better exhibit (I don’t even know if they have one!).
  10. I remember Eduardo Escobar who was a utility player who progressed into an everyday player with the power to hit 25 plus home runs. Gordon isn’t as muscular as Escobar but he is versatile and has speed. As noted, he is developing some power too. But maybe the better analogy would be Cesar Tovar, who once played every position in a game. I could see Gordon doing that, if he can play Catcher. He has already pitched for the Twins in blow-outs. Tovar was just inducted into the Twins Hall of Fame.
  11. So - as I wrote that, Kirilloff gets some additional love here.
  12. Everyone is leaving out someone - Alex Kirilloff. He will be back with what we hope is a successfully repaired wrist. AK is the likely First Baseman. That puts Arraez as a Super Utility guy, Miranda will be at 3B and a likely spending much of the second half at DH when Royce Lewis returns (and plays 3B). Polanco is at 2B (backing up SS with Gordon and Lewis). Correa will not opt out and will be the almost everyday SS. I don’t see a place for Urshela. He has had some nice moments, but there is no urgency to cram him into that mix.
  13. Making up road game rainouts is going to be a real problem with the “play every team” schedule.
  14. He needs a better nickname than SWR. If he develops a good curveball and his other pitches have movement - I suggest “The SWeRve”.
  15. It’s Miranda!!! And all of you who disagree should exercise your right to remain SILENT.
  16. What is the latest report on Kenta Maeda. If he is ready in September, he could provide the 2 innings when necessary. But when is he ready?
  17. I suspect Correa will opt in for another year in anticipation of a better performance in 2023. Best case scenario is the Twins getting that performance next year and then Correa opts out of his third year and seeks a big long term contract elsewhere.
  18. I looked at the 2021 stats of Mahle, Gray and Luis Castillo with the Reds. Overall, Castillo had the best numbers but Mahle’s numbers look better than Gray’s. We will see how this pans out over the next two months but I suspect the top 3 will be in this order: Mahle, Gray, Ryan.
  19. Jharel Cotton pitched three nice innings last nite. Aaron Sanchez had a pretty nice start too. And in less than 24 hours it’s ta-ta. Baseball can be a tough biz. I like the moves today if it leads to some post season success. Losing Steer and Encarnarcion-Strand hurts a bit.
  20. This is the type of move I wanted the Twins to make. The big question is whether Lopez can continue his success. It’s a risk worth taking
  21. The Twins are still in first place. Don’t give away the future (even for a superstar) but the Twins should be able to pick up one or two pieces to enhance this roster. Do not sell.
  22. Years ago, my wife and I took a trip to Cedar Rapids to see the number one prospect Byron Buxton. Jose Berrios was pitching that day. Yet, the future Twins player who impressed us the most that day was Jorge Polanco. He has never been under our radar since.

    75 RBI or 75 RBIs?

A Strikeout is something noted as a K. If a pitcher has 2 strikeouts, he has 2 Ks. Nobody says he has 2 K. Similarly, a run batted in is a thing known as an RBI and two runs batted in should be 2 RBIs. While we’re at it, can we go back to injured players going on the DL (Disabled List)????
  24. This is the most sensible position. The Twins should not refuse to be the Dallas Cowboys trading Herschel Walker.
