  1. Joe Ryan... wow... 2 games over .500 If we can get Sano and the pen on track, watch out.
  2. No. That's the only answer to this premise. He's the best CF in baseball. His bat is still good at a DH, but you lose a crap ton of value with him not in the field. The team needs to figure out how to keep him healthy, and that is not going to be done by wrapping him in bubble wrap.
  3. It's worth noting that Donaldson is not the only member of last year's team missing this season.
  4. the deal didn't look that bad in my opinion without the ptbnl. I didn't realize there's one there, but I like it more now that I see that. We're kind of top heavy in the farm right now, so a non roster player with some talent in the lower minors would be really nice.
  5. It's interesting that the FO went with two bats that had success in the past. I'm guessing they saw something they thought was fixable. I hope that's the case, because that's the only way this trade works. No question Donaldson/Garver were better (when healthy). I realize health matters, which is important, but simply getting a healthy, higher floor, isn't going to make up the win totals we need to make a solid post season run.
  6. Some of the "ifs" will pan out. Some won't unfortunately. That's how it works. I tend to agree. Way too much uncertainty. That's what bothers me about the new CBA. For teams like the Twins, the only way they can win it is with the "ifs" all lining up.
  7. One thing that is clear is that this FO is going to hang on to players past their prime while they still have value. You saw that with Cruz. We got to witness it again with Donaldson and Garver. Ultimately, I'm not sure how much I like what they've done so far. This is not looking good from where I stand. Perhaps they go out and get Story and then get one of the A's pitchers, who knows. But even then, their depth is looking shaky with a lot of counting on guys like Jeffers and Miranda.
  8. From the looks of it, we're a lot worse right now than we were last year. Not good for a team that supposedly has a window. I get that they aren't done... but I'd like to see the rest I guess. They must really believe in Miranda. I get that Donaldson had trouble staying on the field, which is a big part of why he's gone, but so far this we're looking weaker.
  9. while I agree with that, I haven't forgotten 1994. Neither have the owners... and I suspect the same thing would have happened this year as well. But yes, you're correct, it's a lockout, not a strike and people should use the correct terminology.
  10. perhaps as a coach... this wouldn't excite me too much personally.
  11. that was my first thought. Good return, fans forget. We're pretty deep in the infield right now. It's a position of strength, and well Arraez is well liked (deservedly so) from a business standpoint, you make a trade if it makes sense.
  12. I would like to know how it is he can go from a Ruthian type performance to struggling to hit the Mendoza line. I realize there's an adjustment game and what not, but I would think by now he's seen enough MLB pitching to be more consistent.
  13. The problem as I see it is that neither side wants to end the competitive imbalance that currently exists. That, to me at least, poses a bigger problem as fans (rightly so) don't want to hear the bickering between either side... My fear is that this quite possibly the end of MLB... even if a new CBA is reached, I don't see how small market teams are going to be given a better shot at competing.
  14. I'd be curious what the consensus is for an ace pitcher... I assume top 10 MLB starter in pretty much every metric that counts. I'm not against overpaying for one for the record... That said, I doubt we see baseball in 2022, so it probably doesn't matter.
  15. I do not understand why people want to pay him astronomical sums of cash. He's barely on the field. He was having a monster year in 27 games, I'll admit that, but many players can do that in a small sample. Outside of that, he's been a good hitter in that he can maintain an .800 OPS and of course an elite defender when he's on the field... the problem is that he's never on the field. No team is going to throw that kind of cash on him given he's more likely to spend the season on the DL than he is on the field.
  16. Berios was clearly going to test the market and it sounds like Buxton is too. If they cannot sign him, then I tend to agree that he's traded this offseason as waiting until the deadline would be a major gamble given his health issues. The question to me is if they can compete in 2022. If the answer is no, make the call and send anyone packing that won't be contributing beyond 2022.
  17. mixed emotions here. Was hoping to see Berrios here for a while. Though with the looming labor stoppage and baseball not fixing it's competitive issues I'm sure, I'm guessing this is the right move. Better get a haul and hope and prey they hit on all of them.
  18. Buxton is hard to quantify. I don't think the Twins offer was exceptionally low for the simple reason that he's been unable to stay on the field. He's at a point in his career that the label of "brittle" certainly applies. I would be pretty queasy personally guaranteeing that kind of cash as is and think an incentive laden approach is the right answer.
  19. Perhaps I have my Twins colored goggles on, but I think Berrios would be a far more valuable commodity than Stroman. That might be the Met's starting point, but I'm not sure our FO says yes.
  20. My question is whether or not they can compete next season. If so, you keep Berrios and Rodgers. If not, then well, ship them out. But I have to ask how a team with such bright hopes this season failed so miserably. At some point, our front office/owernship needs to take some blame.
  21. well, based on the time frame, I'm guessing that enough passed for people to have some meetings and talk it through. It's certainly not unreasonable given the situation. I'm not sure the consternation... it's not like the game won't be made up.
