  1. As a moderator, I'll note that we've had political discussions shut down for quite some time due to the contentious nature. Unfortunately, given the world events at the moment this has crossed into baseball whether we like it or not, so I'm going to simply ask that we try and be respectful. We've always had a position here about being respectful to each other when it comes to our posts. We need that now more than ever. You don't have to agree with Nick, but I am going to ask that it be done respectfully. That also goes for those who agree with Nick. There's no reason to be referring to anyone's posts as pathetic. Nor is there a reason to be telling others to grow up. I think we can all try and do a bit better job in this area. Our nation is hurting right now. Changes need to happen and people need to heal. Let's keep that in mind as we discuss this, and if we cannot be respectful, perhaps read something else.
  2. one would think they have to be playing games. I woudln't be surprised if west coast teams station their squads in AZ while East coast teams use the FL facilities... I could see them clustered in an area near a decent airport with a couple games a week via short bus rides..
  3. thought I saw something about gum and tobacco as well, though admittedly the no spitting rule should pretty much eliminate dip.
  4. I think the real question will be whether someone can hit .400 in a shortened season...
  5. I think Eddie is ultimately a year to year guy in MN... I do agree that he's dealt with injuries, though to be fair that's a part of the game too... In his case, there aren't many guys who can get hot and literally carry a team for a large period of time... Eddie is one of the few that can do it... the issue though with him comes with the relative strengths across the league in the corners along with the strength in the org. While he's been good here and will likely continue to be an average to above major leaguer for some time, I suspect his future will not be in MN.
  6. I would suggest you re-read it. I don't think this qualifies as Eddie bashing... it likely points to what those stat heads see and why the brought him back. Moving Eddie away from being one dimensional would do wonders for his game.
  7. while personally I prefer the DH... I know a lot of fans that don't. I think the premise is largely accurate, but I could also see there being unhappy fans... I for one, still don't like interleague play. That isn't a show stopper for me and baseball, but I do think there's value to having slightly different rules across the leagues.
  8. This is what I don't understand... why not just continue with Park rules? Players are used to playing in those circumstances... They do it every year... the only difference is needing to do it slightly more.
  9. I really wonder if given the extremes of the situation that it would be smart to do a one time revenue sharing pool and just split everything in that capacity. I know the owners wouldn't like it, especially the bigger markets with revenue to lose, but this could be the difference between baseball and no baseball, and potentially a way to reach new audiences... I would think at the end of the day that having a season this summer (especially when they aren't sharing with anyone else) should be a huge priority... and given everyone being shut in, far more likely to be on TV... which I'd argue has some long term strategic impact. Right now, I suspect people who wouldn't normally watch baseball would be quite willing to watch it.
  10. out side of Minnesota, the midwest refuses to shut up about the Blizzard of 78
  11. admittedly... hate is a strong word.
  12. I like the Jeter pick... In general anyone on the White Sox... In football, Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers.
  13. I think park rules would be fine on DH... has baseball announced a univeral DH? That said, I think what will upset fans more than anything is if these changes are permanent
  14. I suppose they'd never get it done right.. might be one of those competitive balance things to keep it interesting??? I don't know. My only hope is that this is just a 2020 thing.
  15. If it's one time thing, I woudln't be too concerned about the structural alignment. That has more to do with controlling costs and travel time so as to maximize games played... guessing you're going to see a lot of double headers.
  16. heh... Cuellar teaching Johann his changeup was definitely worth it.
  17. I think Santana's biggest problem is going to be sheer volume of quality names on the ballot presently. This is an interesting case... I do tend to agree that there are a LOT of players who had HOF caliber seasons for a short span... not sure they belong.
  18. I cannot help but notice it's all younger players... not sure I'd call it "unlucky" at this point... more like a skill or skills not quite being utilized.
  19. I'm saying that no one would do what is currently being done over the flu if it were to outbreak... Use some common sense, but if that's the litmus, then you may as well shut down all schools, all professional sports... well everything... forever... just hole up in your cave, because outbreaks like this happen every single year multiple times. No one knows where it ends.. yeah, I get that. We do have pretty good data now on how contagious it is and how dangerous it actually is... and it's nor more dangerous than the flu. We aren't even talking measles or something like that.
  20. you know, this virus has lower mortality rates in first world nations than the flu. No one would do this for the flu. Not saying don't be careful, but the level of panic here is not warranted.
  21. yeah, if all he said was "maybe" I think there's way too much tone being read into it...
  22. I would certainly extend Buxton, but given his ability to stay on the field, I'm guessing the gap between what a healthy Buxton should make and what the team will offer is likely going to end that conversation. I would not extend Rosario, as I think year to year is the right option for him. I would look at a couple of our relievers such as May and Duffey. I'd consider Littell next year, though I could see some wisdom in doing it this year if they think last year was for real.
