Which Frontline Starter Should the Twins Go Get?
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Good post, except for trading Larnach, plus some other pieces for Lopez. I'd like to see that happen, but the "other pieces" probably will be too costly.- 52 replies

It is my hope that the FO will not sign below average starters who are "innings eaters". Think about that a moment. Why do you want to give lots of innings to a below average pitcher? The predicted results will be below average for a large number of innings, straining the bullpen, and resulting in losses. A win is a win and a loss is a loss, whether it is April or September. Promote several of these young pitchers, acclimate them to the big leagues, and let the cream rise to the top. It would be helpful to the young pitchers and to the Twins to allow some to be relief pitchers, while they get used to the Big Show. Next year those who prove themselves worthy can look forward to starting for the Twins. Sign and play mediocre pitchers and you get mediocre results and another .500 season.

I've been waiting for the pipeline to produce ever since I started reading TD. I'm still waiting. Our two best young pitchers, Ryan and Duran, are adopted Twins.

The Twins must also "keep" the developing pitchers and not trade them away (Petty, Graterol, Gil, Pressly, Berrios, Hendricks)

No way Gray leaves, because I heard he was addicted to Walleye Juicy Lucys. By the way , we have a restaurant named Jucy Lucy's Restaurant in Asheville, NC

Thanks for sharing. I do understand that contacts require a meeting of the minds of two or more individuals and/or entities. However, in my reign as pretend FO/owner, I chose to spend the $90 million. But if I can't afford it, or if Gary Sanchez signs elsewhere, then I'll sign Leon instead of Sanchez, and I'll just about be at $60 million. I love this website.

Brock Beauchamp’s 2023 Payroll Blueprint
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Brock, I just posted something similar in the Sonny Gray article. I also said: "pay Correa and pay Rodon". I suggested signing Sanchez for 3 years, instead of Leon, whom you suggested. While I really appreciated Leon and his bunts, I feel the Twins need more pop from the second catcher's bat. I understand you were trying to keep under the arbitrary budget, and there are worse options than Leon, but I would just feel more secure with Sanchez. I would have Ryan as SP3 and Mahle as SP4 (a minor difference during the season, but important in the playoffs). I agree 100% on getting rid of Kepler. Trade him for some flame throwing minor league prospect pitchers. Maybe one will pan out in 1-2 years. I also left the relief corps alone, except parting ways with Pagan. I think it is more than adequate with Duran at the tail end, preceded by Lopez, Jax, Alcala, Thielbar, and whoever, and also with (hopefully) Maeda as a long reliever. I would release/trade Garlic and keep both Wallner and Larnach. I would keep Winder, Varland and SWR at triple A as starters, to be brought up for spot starts when the inevitable injuries occur. I agree 100% with keeping Gio. He was a breath of fresh air. Can this proposed team beat the Astros, Yankees, White Sox and Mariners? Absolutely. -
"It's deja vu all over again", to quote Yogi Berra. Once again, the Twins need 1) an above average defensive catcher with a good strong arm, a gold glove defensive SS who can hit, and an ace pitcher. How many straight years have the Twins had these 3 needs during the off season? 2 of the most important position players, plus the most important player on a championship team...the proverbial, shutdown "Ace" pitcher. Question: If the Twins repeatedly have these 3 key needs, how can the FO ever realistically expect to win a World Series? Answer, They can't. Solution: Pay Correa his 350 million dollars; pay Sanchez 30 million for 3 years; and pay Rodon his ??? millions. Carpe diem.

Pitcher Cruelty
tarheeltwinsfan commented on Dave The Dastardly's blog entry in Dave The Dastardly's Blog
It also depends on one's definition of "when it's most important top win". I never like Gardy's quote, "It's a long season", usually made after a particularly disappointing loss, when the Twins' bullpen blew a 3 run lead or after the Twins were swept by the lowly Tigers/Royals/whoever. It is my belief that the definition of "when it's most important to win", is today's game. -

It has something to do with attitude and to do everything to win today...right now. Tomorrow be damned. -

Interesting article. So MLB is taking money from companies for advertising (encouraging the purchase and use of a product) cannabis products that the players will be suspended and/or fined for using? If true, MLB is certainly being hypocritical. Maybe, when the Minnesota Twins move to Las Vegas, the locally legal prostitution houses can be major advertisers. "Do what your favorite players do after a tense game of baseball. Visit "The House of the Rising Sun"." And on the way there be sure to take your Roman pills with you in case of ED problems. Wash down those pills with a six pack of Old Milwaukee. And bet for your Las Vegas Twins at your closest sports betting lobby at a Grand Casino. Children and adults, who have tv for a moral guide, are like rudderless ships.

I was friends with Herm Starette, former pitching coach for the Braves, Phillies, Brewers, Giants, Orioles and bull pen coach for the Red Sox. I wish he were still alive, so I could ask him if it really is that simple. He was a really good guy. I miss talking with him.
