I would if I was them, then deal for either Buxton or pitching. I'm thinking the twins take back Hicks in the deal to get more prospects...... Which would be painful on many fronts. That's what I'd want to do if I was ny. ...

The Yankees have two very good SS prospects.....and need a CF........IF the Twins make the mistake of dealing Buxton, I'd be aiming for one of them and a pitcher from the yankees

They lose their third pick? People think they shouldn't trade that for a free agent they believe in, basically? Or they think they won't? That should be irrelevant.

For what its worth: mike sixel: Odds the Twins sign one of the better FA pitchers? They need three…..also, I can’t believe Verlander got a QO. That’s a ton of money for a guy with his recent history and age. 3:08 Ben Clemens: I think that the Twins will sign at least one pitcher in my top 25 list I have no idea if he meant top 25 overall (I think he did) or top 25 pitchers......but given my question, I think he meant overall. There are nine starting pitchers in the Fangraphs top 25.... https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2022-top-50-free-agents/

Lessons From Atlanta: If You Have A Shot, Take It
Mike Sixel replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Whether fans crucify the FO office or not has no bearing on whether the FO did the right thing. I don't judge this FO based on what people here say..... My post was 100% clear they didn't "go for it", so I have no idea why you are quoting me. Like, none. I also have no idea what the Dodgers and Rays have to do with anything about this post. Nor do I agree that not winning the WS is failure. Success and failure is a dial, not a switch.....- 49 replies

Lessons From Atlanta: If You Have A Shot, Take It
Mike Sixel replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I mostly agree with this....but they didn't sit still. They tried to fill their holes, even if only with guys from the margins that were once good. As I said, they didn't quit or sit still, they did something to get better, even if only on the margins. Then they got lucky in several ways (the Mets imploding, for one).- 49 replies

Lessons From Atlanta: If You Have A Shot, Take It
Mike Sixel replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think the takeaway is simple. If you have a legit shot at the playoffs, you should go for it (at least somewhat), and not sit pat. You don't need to blow up the future. There are players to add that were once good, and might get hot/good again. You never know if you'll be in that position again (at least if you are most teams), so don't just sit still or give up. Try to get better, even if only at the margins. Atlanta got lucky, but that is largely the story of the post season, given the short nature of playoff series.- 49 replies

Twins Daily Community Awards: 2021 Second Half
Mike Sixel replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not sure if I should be proud, or wonder how I could spend so much time here..... Love the site, and community! -
Then look at only offense and defense and not WAR? Calling people idiots for trying to understand the relative value of a 1B vs a CF seems beyond rude. Beyond.

Who should he have replaced in the last three years? Not Donaldson. Not Polanco. Not C or 1B or CF or probably any OF position. Certainly not SS. Not Cruz at DH. That said, on another team w/o those players (or the guys coming up) he likely has a defensive position. He's not nearly so bad defensively as some think. But he didn't hit as well this year as the previous two....so some think he's a better hitter than he is. Like I said upthread....he's a 2-2.5 WAR player, which is a good player.

Will the Twins Consider a Nelson Cruz Reunion?
Mike Sixel replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I hope not. Sano. Rooker. Donaldson. Arraez. Larnach. Garver. They have enough guys that can DH (and play other spots). A DH only type is worth it for a team that is on the cusp of being great....maybe. But not on this roster. No way. -
It was 20 in CF, and 16 at SS in MN.....

Fair, I thought it was a bigger gap than that.......maybe they think he does have a shot. The need OF that can field and hit, but they keep drafting those that can only hit.

Martin? The Twins played him in the OF way more than infield. Just put him in LF, and leave him there so he can actually play it well defensively next year. Every month he doesn't, is a month he's not ready to come up and play good OF D.

He's been a 2-2.5 fWAR player each year.....I agree, people here, including me, underestimate him.

To be clear, I think the team is better than its record if it gets a couple SPs.....and has better luck / outcomes from the RPs. But, this team wasn't good. Keeping it largely intact seems odd to me. I really want Martin in LF, and ASAP in the minors. He can hit and field. Other than that, I don't know what I'd do with the roster. Like, AK could be your LFer...as could Larnach. Maybe (I have my doubts) Rooker. Like, the construction seems redundant and off to me, which means they should make some trades.....

I'm continually gobsmacked by people wanting to basically keep a horrible team together......if players don't have trade value, they don't belong on the MLB roster of a winning team (unless that lack of trade value is due to high, fair or not, pay). edit to add: to be clear, this is NOT aimed at one poster, but this site. Which seems to want to keep nearly every player on last year's 40 man ......that isn't a fungible RP.

What's the point of keeping him if he has no value (which I disagree with, btw)?

That's a terrible trade. If they eat a ton of money, they need one good prospect back. And they don't need more forty man issues.
-
What about the other teams in the playoffs? How good were the Giants before this year with their strategy? They had career years up and down the lineup, kind of like MN in 2019....... I think a lot is glossed over here.....Boston has a massive payroll, the idea they've not spent money "you don't need a big off season" is kind of odd in what you are implying. Before anyone says "copy the Rays"....no team has been able to copy the Rays in years now. It just isn't that easy.

If it is about money and risk, it doesn't matter if he's a free agent or on the roster. And, he's already turned down over fifteen million a year for seven years, reportedly.
