  1. They also didn't sign any of the top FA starting pitchers last year, in a record year for that opportunity. Nor did they sign one this year. Not spending money just puts it in the owner's pocket. They have one long term deal for real money, and they traded that guy after two years. In the history of the team.
  2. You either sign an elite player, or several not so great players.....They are literally signing Joey Gallo to 11 MM for one year. One year. How that fixes anything, I have no idea. Again, the dead money isn't an issue, that's all about spreading out the pain. You are giving up one average FA for three years. I'm willing to do that to get an elite player (which they passed on last year and this year, and will likely again next year - they don't even sign the next tier down either).
  3. It's the market. Or, the money can go to the owners......that's the option. Because the teams not signing elite players aren't signing the next tier either.
  4. But Miranda isn't replacing Urshela on the roster.....which was what I replied to.
  5. If you walk into a car dealer, and offer ten percent under sticker, is it a real offer? The alternative appears to be two Joey Gallo types....
  6. You'd rather have two Gallo types and a veteran near the minimum, than an elite player and two rookies? You'd like to take the chance on being right over and over on one year deals?
  7. So, the owners should keep the money? I'd rather the players get it. YMMV.
  8. By the last three years, you are giving up an average free agent to get an elite player in his prime. I'd do that all day
  9. One elite player and two rookies, or two Joey Gallos (only signed for one year, so no long term fix) and a random low priced vet? Which would you prefer?
  10. Got it. Yes, baseball should want more. Agreed.
  11. I'm not counting on it working. I'm also not giving up prospects in case it doesn't work. That's what I'm saying. Just how many prospects cam a low spending team give up?
  12. At this level, I think people are over thinking taxes as an issue. I think guys want the biggest gross number when we are talking over 200 million. I really think people here over complicate this stuff.
  13. Same mistake they made with Yu Darvish, who has been great.
  14. You'd rather have two Gallo types?
  15. Why would they give up prospects for a guy they hope Lewis replaces in three months? I don't understand this at all.
  16. Because they wanted more money.
  17. Miranda was already on the team. Playing at the same time as Urshela.
  18. I hear Cohen has already bought that.
  19. Why shouldn't it be bandwagon? Why should people support bad teams? Bandwagon fans are closer to logical than those that support bad teams.
  20. You can have one elite player, or two joey Gallo's and a guy close to the veteran minimum.... There sure are a lot of people in this board with inside information! That know what's happening! I'm utterly stunned by this development. Everything else is made up conjecture.
