  1. If he's good at learning from mistakes then the Twins will benefit. I imagine Tingler has spent the last month rehashing the Padres season trying to figure out how to do it differently if he did it over again. At least, I hope he has.
  2. Matz is a bad fit for Target Field. He's homer-prone to right handed pull hitters.
  3. That's a bargain price for Baez. Yes, please. I think they're wrong - he'll get $100M
  4. They've got to top Lorenzo Cain's 5 year $80M deal.
  5. Bill Freehan died without being inducted. 11 All-Star games, 5 Gold Gloves, 2nd and 3rd place finishes in MVP voting. World Series ring in 1968. He didn't even get on the Golden Era ballot.
  6. It took Ted Simmons a long time to get inducted. Mike Piazza took 3 tries and Gary Carter took 6 tries. I would hold off on any reservations.
  7. Lefty Grove was inducted in 1947. Lefty O'Doul is on this ballot.
  8. If not for his back injury, Al Rosen's career would be a lot more impressive. If not for the injuries, Byron Buxton's career would be a lot more impressive. Nomar Garciaparra, Bret Saberhagen, Orel Hershiser, Fred Lynn. There are literally HUNDREDS of baseball players throughout history who could say the same thing.
  9. I don't think either one is one of the top 4 players available. The rules say you only get to vote for 4 so my ballot would not have either.
  10. It's going to be awfully hard to find a trade partner for either. Most likely you'll just get someone else's overpaid player in return.
  11. Nobody wanted to trade for Wade Miley's $10M contract and he was one of the best pitchers in the major leagues last year. Randy Dobnak and the remaining $8M on his contract should be quite easy to get through waivers.
  12. Wade Miley would have been the best pitcher on the roster. I don't understand this at all. Give up any prospect ranked #15 or lower on the MLB list.
  13. Total failure by the Twins. They should have traded something, anything for Miley so he never ended up on waivers at all.
  14. Wade Miley was pretty outstanding in 2021 and has a $10M option for 2022.
  15. Ever hear the saying "better to trade someone a year too early than a year too late"? That's Mitch Garver. I think a challenge trade to the Yankees that brings back Gary Sanchez + another player (Jameson Taillon? Domingo German?) could be interesting for the Twins. The Yankee fans really don't want Sanchez around. He's expensive and Garver isn't (projected arb number $5M less than Sanchez). The Yankees are trying to find a way to limit their luxury tax bill and have a lot of arbitration eligible players.
  16. Oakland is not going to want to pay all of Manea, Bassitt and Montas.
  17. I think they may have already tipped their hand on this one. Falvey wants more home runs in the lineup and that is something you will never get from Luis Arraez. Jose Miranda is ready and can play every position that Arraez can play. Miranda hit 30 HR in the minors this year (with a .344 batting average). Arraez is pretty much at peak trade value right now. He's a proven utility infielder who gets on base. Someone will be interested in acquiring him.
  18. I like this idea enough that I would endorse trading Arraez to make it happen. They need pitching more than they need Luis Arraez.
  19. Sano has been awful at 1B. He should play out his contract at DH next year. Josh Donaldson is going to be 36 and the team defense could improve if he played more first base.
  20. I don't think Ober and Ryan is enough to make it through the season. The other starters are more AAA depth than pitchers you would want to rely on to start a season.
  21. I'm not sure Rodriguez would be buying low but they probably could buy low on Danny Duffy.
  22. There is a trio of interesting lefties: Danny Duffy, Eduardo Rodriguez and Steven Matz. Target Field is tough on LHP but any of those guys could help.
  23. They picked the wrong pitcher with Happ. Several pitchers signed after Happ, including Rich Hill who had been successful with the team in 2020. There are 5 shortstops who will be pursued heavily. The Yankees are going to sign one of them, probably Correa. The Dodgers will sign one, probably Seager. The Phillies are also in the market for a shortstop and can outbid the Twins. Most of them also have a QO attached and the last thing the Twins should be doing is giving away draft picks in the upcoming draft. That means it's sign Javier Baez or hunt for bargains.
  24. Based on Falvey's quotes in Reusse's article in the Strib today you will be quite disappointed. "We had LaMonte. He was an on-base, line-drive guy and we liked him a lot but what he and the Giants did this year, he looked like a totally different human at the plte. He was standing upright, swinging harder, hitting for power." "People complain about the emphasis on home runs, but they win games," Falvey said. "Already in this postseason, teams are 13-1 when they outhomer the opponent."
