    They found a spot for Solano on this "clogged" 40 man roster in March. I understood not adding anyone in January but I was bewildered why they didn't when the 60 man IL spots opened up.

    They should have kept Danny Couloumbe. He's been effective and he's dirt cheap.

    Balazovic is going to get beat up in his first go around at the MLB level. He's not ready to help a playoff team win games.

    Any update on Maeda? He's been out 3 weeks with a triceps injury.

    To replace him they need a better option. Giving the job to Balazovic based on 18 innings where he's walked 11 batters is laughable. DeLeon isn't the answer either. Cole Sands has not impressed. Alcala has struggled. Winder is awful at the moment. The cupboard is bare. They didn't address the bullpen when it only cost money during the offseason so they're going to have to pay for relief help with prospects if they want an improvement.

    The bad calls mostly even out over time. A robot strike zone won't actually affect more than a game or two in the standings. That matters, especially for a playoff series, but the Twins aren't going to see any net benefit.

    I think I'd have Ariel Castro ahead of Helman. In fact I'd trade Helman for any of the top 3 international free agents the Twins signed last summer.

    Royce Lewis is playing like he deserves a position somewhere. No rust at all with a .455/.539/.818 slash line (plus 3 stolen bases) so far. Farmer is hitting WELL above his established past performance.

    The Twins tried something different this year putting the young prospects at Cedar Rapids and the older org guys in Fort Myers. I think that might have been a mistake. Some of the players at Cedar Rapids are failing at that level (Salas, Urbina, Cavaco) while some of those at Fort Myers are not being challenged (Cossetti, Shuffield). Making each team a mix of older and younger players for the rest of the season would be a better idea.

    Gus was a Rule 5 pick so if he passes through waivers he goes back to his original team.

    Probably deserves a promotion to AAA but both Miranda and Lewis are there at the moment.

    It's basically league average. MLB is batting .247 for the season.

    If you need a challenge system it would be for a human umpire to overturn the electronic system, not the other way around. For instance, an electronic strike zone set at the front of the plate does not know if the pitch bounced before it crosses the plate.

    I would not call up Lee unless he forces the issue and he hasn't so far. I'd rather keep him off the 40 man roster this winter.

    Dalton Shuffield is way too old for Fort Myers. He should probably be in Wichita. The young prospects got moved up to Cedar Rapids to challenge them and the Fort Myers roster was filled with 22-25 year old "org guys".

    I got to see why Nick Gordon isn't getting any walks. Pitchers challenge him in the zone knowing he'll get himself out or at worst slap a single. No respect because he has no power. I had flashbacks of Tsuyoshi Nishioka.

    Yes, death by pitch sequencing. The Cubs knew exactly when the slider was coming based on the count and the location. They were sitting on it and hit singles twice. Jax is too predictable, they need a new game plan.

    The Twins have prioritized the extra year of control when acquiring pitchers during the season. Twice now they have had that strategy hurt them when the pitcher turned out to be injured and the extra year of control was during that injury recovery. The best deadline deals are usually the ones where the trading team gives up the least. Get someone mediocre with an expiring contract to fill a hole and give up a non-prospect and/or cash. If your roster needs a top-end pitcher you probably aren't a contender anyway. If you want to acquire someone long term, do that in the offseason when costs are lower.

    Never draft for organizational need, always draft the best player available.

    The prospects are a sunk cost but an extension isn't a bad idea. Mahle hasn't had a chance to make the big bucks (career earnings of $16M). He's looking at a minor league deal in the offseason now. The downside for the Twins with a contract extension is carrying a player who won't help on the 40 man roster all winter.

    Sonny Gray gets called a "solid #2 starter" in this thread but he's pitching as well as anyone in all of baseball - leading the league in ERA and #2 in pitcher WAR. The starting pitching has been very good. For the offense, many people commented that Gallo might be a good piece to pick up if they didn't already have 5 other players with the same skill set on the roster (Kepler, Larnach, Kirilloff, Wallner, Julien). That feels like a bug in the spreadsheet. Lefthanded hitters who can put the ball over the fence are valuable, but having 5 of them is not as valuable as having a mix of different skill sets. If an opposing pitcher can get one of them out he will be able to get ALL of them out. They decided Miranda was their starter at 3B and that decision isn't helping. They knew (or should have known) coming in Miranda's glove would be below average but were betting on his bat. Carlos Correa is definitely underperforming at the plate but I doubt he is this bad all season. Those two (and Buxton) were supposed to provide the RH hitting to balance all the lefties elsewhere.
