  1. Hard to get fleeced when you don't give up much. Taylor Rogers was bad last season.
  2. Thanks for the Correa article. I haven't heard much about him this offseason.
  3. Highest dollar long-term deal Falvey has ever given a pitcher
  4. Come on. We all know that guy is more into pro pickleball than he is into baseball.
  5. That's more like changing the subject than disagreeing. I think they could find a replacement for Arraez easier than they can find a pitcher as good as Pablo Lopez. That has nothing to do with whether Lopez is the right pitcher to try to obtain. He is the name floated most often and I think he's the easiest to get.
  6. Arraez for Lopez is a steal for the Twins. The Twins will have a much easier time finding a 1B who can replace Arraez than a P as good as Lopez.
  7. This is Correa's team now, he's the face of the franchise for the 2020s just like Mauer was in the 2000s. If they don't make the playoffs in 2023 I expect to see a coaching change.
  8. Unless they are brain dead they will acquire two pitchers for the roster to take Canterino and Paddack's spots.
  9. I agree, they really need to quit inducting players like Harold Baines, Jim Kaat, Tony Oliva and Lee Smith.
  10. "Didn't take steroids" shouldn't be impressive enough to get a Hall of Fame vote. That's like "Didn't swear at his dog".
  11. dWAR is useless for almost everything. Use RField to figure out how good a player was versus their positional average.
  12. I think Correa is going to have a chip on his shoulder for a while. Prove them all wrong, Carlos.
  13. The Giants could have but I don't know if the Mets have the ability to front-load the contract that much. Every $$ they spend costs a 90% penalty. $33M a season becomes $63M. That's a steep price to upgrade from Eduardo Escobar. I hope the option vests, Correa plays well for 10 seasons and 20 years from now we're debating whether Correa wears an Astros or Twins cap in the Hall of Fame (hopefully not that new M* cap though).
  14. That's unfair. Jeter was a below average SS with a Gold Glove rep. Torii was at least an above average CF with a Gold Glove rep. He's more like the outfield version of Omar Vizquel. Vizquel and Torii were both very good defenders but not all-time greats.
  15. His sexual misconduct charge isn't going to help his case.
  16. Twins pick up a solid piece shopping the scratch-and-dent 20% off sale
  17. If defense matters so much you should be stumping for Andruw Jones - he's clearly a better defender than Torii. Andruw actually produced more at the plate over his career as well (RBat 119 vs 113). Torii has a (weak) case but not as good as Edmonds or Andruw or Lofton. That's just among recently retired CF.
  18. About the same as someone who has a .400 OBP and doesn't steal bases. You score by HR from first or second base.
  19. Predicting the future of 16 year olds is hard and prone to error. I noticed you only listed the successful contracts from that year and not the 50 other high priced busts. You can't measure success in scouting and development on an individual player basis, just like you wouldn't measure success or failure of an investment portfolio based on the movement of one stock in the portfolio. They need to measure their gain in aggregate and in relation to other baseball teams. Are they generating more, less or the same talent as other teams?
  20. 80% success rate says very good things about minor league development staff.
  21. You'll need 18 pitchers to get through the season. That only leaves a few slots for projects and you might prefer your own guys.
  22. It's actually the teams spending above the luxury tax who can't afford a big useless contract. $30M of dead money for Correa will cost them $57M due to penalties. The Twins don't spend anywhere near the luxury tax limit so they can easily afford $28M of dead money 8 years from now. 10/285 is a fair deal. If he provides 35 WAR they break even. He should be able to provide that in 6 seasons.
  23. I agree they need more than Correa, but can't Correa be part of it? It's not like they're spending free agent dollars anywhere else. They have enough free cash flow to pay Correa's entire 10 year contract over the next 3 seasons.
