  1. Listening to extra innings was like listening to two Lutherans argue about who should eat the last brownie in the pan. "Are you sure you don't want it?" "No, I'm not really hungry" "I need to run the dishwasher. Should I wrap it up for you?" "I don't want you to waste the Reynolds Wrap. Maybe you should have it." "No, I'm trying to cut back. The doctor says I could lose a little weight." About 30 minutes later somebody finally eats the brownie and goes home.
  2. You didn't get to see the alternate reality where Jax blew up in the 8th inning instead and Rocco never gets to use Duran in a close game.
  3. Vazquez gets criticized for his bat but his glove was terrific yesterday, as noted by AJ Pierzynski. He does a good job working with the starting pitchers and he erased a few baserunners too.
  4. The most frustrating part was Falvey acknowledging that they actually could use some help in the bullpen, then not following through and acquiring any. The only consolation with Floro is Lopez has been horrible for the Marlins. The Twins won that trade.
  5. I'm good with Martin coming up and sitting on the bench on September 25th when the Saints season is over.
  6. He will be replaced by Castro, Buxton or Kirilloff shortly. Two of those three are good, young players.
  7. Luplow is a bench player. Austin Martin is playing every day in AAA. Do you want Martin to spend the rest of the season on the bench?
  8. A six game lead with 33 games left helps. I'd rather see the Twins clinch early and then give everyone a rest. Win both series vs Cleveland and they can do whatever they want the rest of the season. I wouldn't mind if the rotation the last week of the season was Ryan, Maeda, Keuchel, Varland, and a bullpen game.
  9. To be fair, what the Twins have had in 2023 has been as good as I have ever seen for a Twins pitching rotation. Varland has the talent to pitch in the major leagues and if he isn't good enough for the rotation next year there is plenty of room in the bullpen.
  10. But his OPS is still pretty low. He's at the right level for his development.
  11. Gordon's also not ON the 40 man roster.
  12. Not at retail prices but Duran hasn't ever had a big payday. His signing bonus was $65,000. He goes through arbitration 2025, 2026, 2027. Hader is the best comp, though Hader was a Super 2. Still, he made $31M over the last 3 arb years. 5 years $45M with a $15M team option (and a possible QO after that) would be a fair deal for the Twins and they might be able to do better than that. Clase only got 5 years $20M. If they go year-to-year with arbitration Duran could make $35M over the next 4 years.
  13. Lewis and Duran are the only players on the roster worth having this discussion about. Right now I'd be fine with both through age 32 but not longer than that. Duran might be the higher priority this offseason.
  14. Keep pushing until the division is won and then give everyone the week off before the playoffs. Hopefully you can skip 2 Ober starts in late Sept.
  15. They don't have to add Charlee Soto to the roster until before the 2028 season. That's the earliest you should expect to see him in the rotation.
  16. On a 1 year deal you will need a lot more than $7M. That's relief pitcher money. Tyler Anderson signed for 3 years $39M, Jose Quintana 2 years $26M and Nate Eovaldi 2 years $34M. Syndergaard 1 year $13M. Clevinger 1 year $12M. The 1 year $10M Kluber, Gibson and Boyd received is the absolute floor if his market collapses. Pretty much any starting pitcher you actually want to have in your rotation is worth a qualifying offer.
  17. He's a career 150 OPS+ hitter who is athletic enough to play the outfield if his pitching career is over. His downside is Bryce Harper.
  18. It's really easy to adjust and have them come in the 7th inning instead of the 6th if you want to get one more inning out of Gray or Lopez. We all know they're not going to use either of them past inning 6. Who would you rather have pitching the first clean inning, Floro or Ryan?
