Mod note: We’ve already had several debates around Eddie Rosario. In this thread have already been a couple of pet subjects carried over from other threads. Please keep this thread to subject of the OP. How does the delta between metrics used by the FO and the metrics used by the arbitrators impact decisions made in regards to Eddie Rosario?

the Twins have to find at minimum 3 starting pitchers who are currently not on the roster, and preferably 4. Odorizzi and Gibson are both options, but neither of which are currently signed https://mobile.twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/1195023702955479047?s=20 . The FO can’t ignore second and third tier starters because they only want the top tier. The players need to come in non-sequential. If you get Odo on the qualifier (not done yet) and Gibby on a 1 year cheap deal, that’s a good floor to build on as you go after the harder fish to catch.

I wonder if the broad interest in Gibson is to Pineda him. Sign him cheap to a 1 year plus (team friendly) option, and hope he regains his strength/mojo. If there are 4 better starters than Gibby including an additional front of rotation type, I'm very OK with taking a flyer on him.

roster is at 31 and you need to fill 3 starting pitchers and an infielder that will most likely come from outside the organization. You can protect maximum of 5, and I’d like to see a late inning reliever brought in too, making it 4. I’d like to see a couple of these assets traded.

much like Manager, there are only 30 bench coach jobs in MLB. What if Rowson doesn’t accept the Marlins job and Shelton doesn’t leave? Someday never comes. Rowson took an elite job with a clear step up in responsibility in-line with potential for future manager opportunities. He absolutely made a good career move, no matter what happens with Shelton. Edit to add: no job opportunity comes without risk. The marlins have a difficult road in front of them, but that is why the job came open, and inherent in these types of job openings.

Mr Rowson has been great for the Twins and I’m very happy for him. Bench coach is a great step for him and I’m still not sure what an offensive coordinator does, but innovation is good. The Twins FO has shown a keen eye for coaching talent, and I’m confident they’ll replace Rowson with another very good hitting coach.

yup, talent evaluation in all of its many forms is critical to developing internal players and identifying external candidates. I don’t think the Twins were bad at prospect evaluation, under TR/WS. I think lots of teams are very good talent evaluators. It’s tough to gain a competitive edge, when there are 25 teams all really good at talent evaluation. There are fewer teams really good at talent development and flaw fixing. Houston is one of the best at all 3.

100% agreed, you got the money, spend it on pitching... they don’t need a ton on position players, and a no bat all glove SS is cheap... plus you’ll still need the pitching depth at AAA. It would be great if that depth was Devin Smeltzer and not Andrew Albers.

the stand alone episodes bugged me too. Season 3 should have been about 8-10 episodes... but I suppose the deal was for a “full season” so it had to be 15 or whatever. I still enjoyed it. -
Sano has a rod inserted in his leg and nasty/infected cut on his foot. Maybe a healthy and non-snake-bitten offseason will get his mobility back in shape. I’d also go to arb with Cron and keep Lewis playing SS, 3rd and CF. Flexibility is key.
