  1. I am not sure - but if Stewart can do what he has been doing he is number one. If Thielbar can retain his excellence he is number two. Lewis is the bat we want. Then it doesn't matter to me. The mgmt is too set on Gallo, Buxton, Kepler for me to dream that others will get a fair chance to make a difference.
  2. I wonder how long we will be posting the sit Buxton, get rid of Kepler and Gallo requests and how long the FO will ignore them? We do not have the bats to handle three under performing key players. Would we really be worse off if Larnach, Wallner, and Julien replaced the three of them?
  3. Buxton is going to continue to be a story until Rocco starts putting him in the lineup in a place where he's going to do less damage. Batting third has meant that we have an automatic out before Kiriloff can get to bat. Gray must have been reading the twins daily debates on whether he should be treated or not. Right now he's pushing his trade value way down. Julien needs to stay in the lineup even when polanco is back.
  4. It depends on how you view the FO - if they can sift through offers and find one that will actually benefit the team it is okay to trade him, but no more give aways. He is a good pitcher, maybe not the Ace we call him. Did the FO try to extend him like they quickly did for Lopez? Do he and Baldelli click behind the short post game conflicts? Test the marker - trade if it is really outstanding. And if not ride it out for the season - this is our Ohtani conundrum.
  5. I am fine with this - but of course it depends on the otherside of the trade. With Kuechel now on the horizon it provides more flexibility. And maybe Varland could find his way again. I do want us to get to the playoffs, but for those convinced that Gray is the Ace - remember his NYY years (2) when he was 15 - 16 4.51 and NY was anxious to get rid of him. We do not know how he will do in the big stage again. So this is a wishy washy response because there are so many factors to consider.
  6. There's nothing to add to this report. It's up to the front office if any adding is going to be done.
  7. MLB has Buxton number 9 among DHs with qualifying ABs. But there are not very many full time DHs most are shared times at DH.
  8. The problem is that our FO values our vets too much. Kepler and Polanco should have been traded when value was high, Keep the lineup fresh. Buxton should have been traded too, but now he like Kep and Polanco has lost his value. I am just so confused by the FO take on the starting 9 bats.
  9. You missed Jim Kaat 1966 25 - 13 2.75 And Mudcat Grand 1965 - 21. - 7 3.30 Camilo Pascual 1963 21 - 7 2.46 Dean Chance 1967 20 - 14 2.73 Scott Erickson 1991 20 - 8 3.18 Dave Goltz 1977 20 - 11 3.36 Gray has to lead us to the WS to rank with Viola. I agree with the comments about Maeda - many pitchers have great half seasons. And I still value wins. In my prime years of fandom the started pitched enough to earn the wins and they count, just like BA - ask Miami what they think about Luis Arraez.
  10. I forgot one stat where the two teams are close - the Twins are first in striking out (as batters) and Oakland is third.
  11. We have won two games, but struggling like this against the A's is not satisfying. Let's hope we just put them away today. In ERA we are 3rd, they are 30th. In WHIP we are 1st - they are 30th! In OPS we are 21 - they are 30. BA - we are 24 - they are 30. HR we are 8 - they are 24. My celebration of a two game winning streak is muted.
  12. The Saints would be a more worthy opponent than the A's
  13. I am ofter confused by the Twins. Does this mean that Wallner will play 3rd base? No equivalency here. I want Wallner up, but I want Gallo (I know he was a hero yesterday) or Kepler gone.
  14. How we love the low rung fruit - the A's and the Royals. Our record against them is 10 - 1. Luckily we get more As and Royals in this three week stretch. That should propel us over 500 and maybe with a lead in the division, but if this loss felt ugly and the writer captured that - then winning this division could feel really ugly too.
  15. I doesn't mean anything. It took me four years after I said I was going to retire before I left that job and started a new career. In the middle of a frustrating season with a frustrating manager he is just sounding off.
  16. Both and if no one else wants them it is a message to the team. Move on.
  17. Yes, move on. We have had many occasions in the past where pitching coaches were changed, why not hitting? We fire managers, why not coaches. At a time where we have as many coaches as players we need to get out of the MN nice and move on. I love the Cruz idea, he not only knows how to hit, he also knows how to communicate and motivate.
  18. I love it - a player who signs his contract gets awards, cheers, and boos. Expectations are high and should be. Didn't we hear he was the best of the SS free agents? I like Stark calling out players and I hope it is motivation. I would love to know Correa's stats before and after last years All-star game. I think he became the player we expected in the second half. Can he do it again? If not he and Buxton and Gallo and Kepler can duke it out in the LVP race.
  19. It is always good to begin the season and again after the all-star break with hope and wishes and crossed fingers and toes. The record does not show that they are worthy, but they have a really weak schedule - much to our joy! So maybe the baseball gods are being good to us and we will win a playoff game, but then there is Tito Francona!
  20. Thanks for the note - we are filled with mysteries, but if we go through these next 26 games and still have a 500 record I have to side with those who say blow it up, sell, and build with our youth.
  21. I had to look at the WAR of our players - I know it is like punishing yourself to do so, but this 500 team with two "All-star big contract" players has to have some evaluation. WAR from Baseball Reference: Correa 1.1 (how much is fielding?) Buxton 0.8 Gallo 0.3 Michael Taylor 0.7 (fielding again) Max Kepler 0.4 Polanco 0.6 Vasquez -0.2 Solano 1.5 Farmer 0.5 Jeffers 1.4 Kirilloff 0.2 Julien 0.6 Castro 1.7 Yes - Donovan Solano and WIlli Castro lead the team in WAR so far! Can you really imagine a first place team with two players signed as bench and utility leading their lineup? Sonny Gray 3.1 Pablo Lopez 1.7 Ryan 1.8 Ober 2.9 Maeda -0.1 Great to see that Ober is actually the number 2 and Maeda could continue to move up since his is a short season. Duran 1.5 Stewart 1.6 Jax 0.9 Pagan 0.3 Lopez 0.0 Moran -0.1 Sands 0.0 There have been a lot of ups and downs so this is the consistent group. Based on this - who gets better in the second half? And how do we rate our FO? They constructed this team. Fansided has them 12 in MLB. Bleacher Report has them 13.. And our manager - Yardbarker has Baldelli at 16. New Arena has him #24. Does this fit your narrative or do have higher or lower expectations?
  22. What was our record after the all-star break last year? Not good. Do we expect a repeat? The annual Buxton the superstar story is worn out and he provides us with little value - causing us to have a below average CF, and a clogged DH spot. 0.8 WAR so far on BR. Correa has made the Mets and Giants happy that they moved on. Nice player but not a key to the team. Although last year most of his value came in the second half contract moves. Kepler and Gallo do not belong on a good team. Solano has over performed in his role, but if he is your best hitter the team is in bad shape. Miranda has still not found himself and maybe that one great year in the minors was a mirage. Polanco should have been traded last year. We cannot count on him and his health. The BP has been covered and should be covered up. Can Duran pitch 4 innings a game - every game? I have been afraid of Cleveland since the start. They always move up in the second half and Francona leaves Baldelli in the dust. I know - good draft - divert our attention and hope for the best.
