I suspect Festa might be giving Paddock a turn or two off very soon if Paddock had another bad game.

No matter who the opponent - we cannot count the victories until we earn them. Another big streak by the Twins.

Like Vasquez his contract would guarantee he stays. But overall the fans and teams love affair with Buxton insures he stays through his contract.

Yankees 8, Twins 5: Walks Will Haunt, Twins Swept
mikelink45 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A season of streaks - what does it really mean about the kind of team we are. Obviously we do not want to see the Yankees in the Playoffs, but where would we rank among the really good teams - the Yankees, the Guardians, Orioles, Seattle? Overall the AL does not look that strong this year and I do not know what will happen with KC. But we should make the playoffs again. We are currently number 6 overall in the Wildcard standings. I just don't know how to assess this team. We now have exactly 100 games left so plenty of time, but I am not confident going to the Pirates who are much better this season than for the last decade. Lopez has definitely not been an Ace for us. Paddock is not someone I would count on in a big game. Ryan, SWR, Ober are the top three currently and Ober has not been consistently good this year - too many poor games. The rotation just isn't what we had last year and I am not sure it is a group that can carry us through the playoffs. Will Festa come up and rescue us?- 48 replies

He is a good player, but time to downgrade the hype that has followed him all his career. I can see Julien, Lee, and Martin back with the Twins this season, but who goes will be another mystery just like Julien's demotion. It will be time to get rid of vets who are under performing.

We played the Yankees - we lost - expected - yes. Disappointing - extremely. But after this game I have to say that any of you who are against the electronic strike zone have me shaking my head in disbelief. I understand it is not perfect, but it is consistent and that is something these umpires are not.

The Twins do not seem to trust Keirsey - I wonder why? Kiriloff does not have an injury excuse this year - what is his issue? I thought Larnach would be out there more - is his fielding that poor? I am not as excited by Martin as most seem to be. But I am also not ready for trade deadline speculation - it is still almost 2 full months away.

Okay - time to step back and wonder - Yankees versus Twins. What is this curse? It is not the umpires. Only Royce seems to have missed the memo that says roll over and play dead.

Twins Relievers Are Pitching Out of Their Minds
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Relief pitching is so difficult to assess and predict I can only say we are doing well right now and I hope it continues. -
The batters all look good, the pitching prospects were a mixed bag - overall the pitchers did not have a good week. Glad to see good bats, but the arms have to start performing too.

Trade Deadline: Scenarios for Your Minnesota Twins
mikelink45 commented on wyatt's blog entry in GM: What? Like It's Hard?
I guess this is a day off filler - what can we write about - how about speculating? Of all the trades only the first makes any sense, but right now none of them make sense unless the Marlins want to make another before the deadline deal. I am more interested in what we consider our depth at each position - not counting the one and out Margot and Santana or the not to be resigned Farmer. By the way - your Pressly trade reminds me of Terry Ryan who used to love to get reunions with players who left and seldom did it ever work out. -
I always look first at the pitching prospects - today was not a good day to do that.

What a refreshing and encouraging game! Players who are in consideration for demotion to get Lewis in place did well, Pablo looked like the pitcher we hope for and the team just looked good.

I agree with the logic of dumping veterans who are underperforming and are not part of the future and keeping those we need to be part of the next few years. Margot and Farmer being cut would not mean anything negative to the team. Otherwise I vote for Julien - I am really disappointed and would love to see him get reset. I do not know what to think about Kiriloff.

Bench players are a lot like bullpen. Hot and cold year to year. It is a difficult thing to be ready at a moment's notice. But, at the price we are paying for him we can't afford to have non-productive

I think we will make this trade right after we acquire Judge and Soto. Reminds me of one stanza of a favorite song - Day Dream Believer: You once thought of me As a white knight on his steed Now you know how happy I can be Oh, and our good times starts and end Without dollar one to spend But how much, baby, do we really need

The lesson I get from this is that it is not how hard you hit the ball, but where you hit the ball. Velocity can be overrated.

Ryan is looking great, but the early season articles about the Twins having, potentially, the best BP have to be disregarded as we struggle to compete on the mound for nine innings. Glad to have both Larnach and Miranda going yard. We need them.
