  1. Severino is the least exciting of the players listed - I do not want more Ks. It also says a lot about Simeon Woods Richardson that he was not in any of the pairings, nor was Austin Martin - these two may be major leaguers this year, but expectations are not for them to be difference makers.
  2. Nothing here is filled with promise and high upside. I can only wait and see.
  3. I see this as a big reach to have a column to write. Not excited by Grisham, not wanting to send prospects to NY. Big No - move on.
  4. I will take Lewis and Correa. Next would be Wallner and Julien. The injury pairing of Buxton and Kiriloff is potentially great, but they need to stay out of the hospital to make the ranking. But based on last year the last half season it was our trade boys - Polanco and Kepler.
  5. Wow - the comments are really strong with emotion. I believe baseball players will sign anywhere that they get the money they want. Of course Ohtani chose LA- look at that contract! And Judge choosing NY was not about geography - NY is where he has always played and is his comfort zone. Correa did not reject SF. I worked in SF this past year and they have a problem with the homeless because they have taken over a street that is in the center of the city. The wharf and other areas are still great, but we have an issue in every city with what to do with the massive homeless issue. "The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) counted around 582,000 Americans experiencing homelessness in 2022. That's about 18 per 10,000 people in the US, up about 2,000 people from 2020." https://usafacts.org/articles/how-many-homeless-people-are-in-the-us-what-does-the-data-miss/
  6. As so often happens the article triggered another thought in my mind. If we are only going to use 5 inning SP, why not go back to a 4 man rotation? We are not over using them. No Warren Spahn - Marichal marathons. So give them a chance to pitch more often and don't use an inning eater (or rather mediocre arm).
  7. Silly money being spent - the market goes up because the big money teams compete with each other and throw figures around that 80% of the other teams cannot dream of matching. Is Ohtani really worth that amount? No. But that is not the point. He is the bauble that one big team can flash for the other team. I remember the first $100,000 salary. But now that is pay for one game - win or lose. I am put off by it and I love it when a team regrets what they spent, but can't do anything about it. Forget Ohtani - the Angels spent big on Trout who has 15 post season ABs and Pujols who was constantly berated (until he came back to the Cards) and Rendon. How has that worked out? The Yankees take on Stanton and Rodon and Donaldson - then come close to 500 for the first since the dinosaurs. The big name and big contract does not mean success. I enjoy Carlos Correa, but he was not the reason we won the division any more than Buxton. Baseball is not a game where one star makes the difference, it truly is a team game. Trout can only bat 3 - 5 times a game, Cole can only pitch every 5th day. What I like about the Twins is there total roster and the players like Castro and Solano and Taylor making the difference along with rookies who shine when given a chance.
  8. They have to hope Paddack becomes the guy they envision because the other guys are good for the season, but not the shut down guy that the playoffs demand. So who will we trade with?
  9. I agree, he has disappointed each try. It might be a mental issue now. But it would be really nice to see him break through and produce the way we had thought he would.
  10. My does the OF look weak, Buxton is not someone to count on and if we trade Kepler we have an OF of Wallner, Castro or Gordon and Larnach. Yikes does that look bad even if it is just in print. I am not ready to rely on Austin Martin either.
  11. When will all these 10 - 12 year overpays start to catch up with the teams? I really am glad the Twins are not in that chase for financial silliness. Our contract with Correa is enough. Projected 12 years for Bellinger in the article. He batted over 300 last year and in 2019. Has anyone looked at the three years in between? 210, 165, 234. So who are you getting? I hope the Twins find a SP with our trade assets but if not push those young arms.
  12. Fascinating to speculate - but the question that comes to mind is if U players are like BP pitchers - up and down from year to year and hard to project. We have a lot of them so something good should sort out here. But I do not which it would be even though I lean towards Castro. In five years he has 3 WAR - but 2.4 came last year. Is that sustainable?
  13. I put SWR in the BP - then it is a guess which is really ready with the arsenal and confidence to face MLB hitters. I do like the list. Where do they rank nationally?
  14. Not my core three - Correa should/would be, but for now our core three are Lewis, Julien and Lopez.
  15. In five years he has started 65 games - two years he was in the 20s. He had an ERA under 4 during four years and over 4.7 in 3 years - he got over 100 innings twice - 140 and 108. Yes he had one good year. So why do we think we have the next Lopez/Grey. I still say wait and see.
  16. Like so many speculations I cannot offer a reasonable response other than lets wait and see. How can anyone judge operations, recovery, health, attitude at this point?
  17. Thank you - I do not care if they were honorable mention - I am just glad they are mentioned and their memories carried forward.
  18. I had to look at this from another direction since there are too many ways to evaluate this so - cost benefit - using baseball reference: Correa $36 - 1.4 WAR - $25m per war points Dobnak - $2.5 - 0 War - no return Vazquez - $10m - -0.3 WAR - a negative return Buxton - $15m - 0.8 WAR - $18.75 per war point.
  19. Reverse the order. Ballplayers are inconsistent commodities so the ranking will shift. If Buxton cannot play CF this year his contract goes to the top of the list. The Twins are actually in good shape compared to many teams. Players like the three you listed and Corbin, Stanton, Rodon, Yelich, Bumgarner, Sale, and Strasburg are the kind the really hurt.
  20. It seems like a no-brainer question - of course we need help
  21. I know you are looking for this to a continuing section of TD and I am for it. I am more interested in what is happening than speculating on what we can fantasize happening. Some good summaries here and I am also happy when we look in on the other teams. I think we better start looking at Detroit for example - signing Maeda, and Mark Canha.
  22. NO - if you have been looking at the premium contracts that SS get - even those who are switched to 2B (Story and Semien) then you look at Lee and Lewis and recognize that if Correa goes down for any reason these are our most valuable assets. We have enough funds and players to go after a SP without Lee or Lewis being included in the deal.
  23. They were being honest - how refreshing. Now lets see what they do .
  24. I cannot complain - I like their honesty. We all see the TV mess and while we can all say spend money anyway, that is not how the rich got rich. Let's see if the TV mess actually evens things out. Our TV deal versus the Yankees would always leave us behind and yet we competed. I know nothing about Correa satisfaction. Let's see it play out on the field. Correa dealt with a terribly painful ailment and did his best, but not the level we were looking for and Buxton is an annual anguish. Young players are looking good and the off season is just beginning and that is not when the Twins FO moves. Patience
  25. You filled in an area of ignorance - I had no idea who was out there. It will be interesting but my bet is that the team passes.
