Why Would the Twins Pay Anyone but Carlos Correa?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I love all the spend money responses - actually I just love all those who post to argue with me - but spending ridiculous money will never be something I support even if it is monopoly money - unless there is a get out of jail free card too.- 86 replies

Why Would the Twins Pay Anyone but Carlos Correa?

My preference is a trade for a pitcher using the excess talent that we are supposed to have at second base.- 86 replies

mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree that we have young players to fill the gaps and we need to get them in the majors along with those who have already come but I don't believe that we are more than a 500 team which means that we need to start looking at places where we have excess strength and people like polanco if they have value need to be traded for what we need. The team we currently have proved to be at 481 and thus any argument the good shape has to look at the reality of our team versus those we are competing with. I do believe we need another starting pitcher, not because we don't have a lot of good arms, but we don't have the stopper. Jack Morris was the difference Maker for us in 1991 and we need that kind of arm on our staff.- 86 replies

Edouard Julien Can Take the Next Step in 2023

Time to consider our infield surplus is trade candidates to get the pitcher we need. It appears that we have the candidates to fill the holes if we can find somebody who wants our current talent. -
Twins Need to Fix Revolving Door Up the Middle
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm ready to wait for the young player to take over and we got three choices for that. That's where we get long-term repeat Short stops like we had with gagne and Versalles. The biggest contract for the Superstar is not the solution for me. Develop that short stuff. So Houston did and when they star gets too pricey they were ready with another one to fill this place- 23 replies

mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He is a star - that is not my argument but his salary and more years of commitment are not things I support. It is not a stat issue, it is the fact that we are better to develop players who will get better the next five years instead of committing to someone who might decline over those years.- 86 replies

Why Would the Twins Pay Anyone but Carlos Correa?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Guardians had one star and great pitching and great defense. They got to the playoffs and even won two against the Yankees. Correa was not going to carry the team and we would have been in the same place in the standings without him. Maybe signing pitchers who are not ready for the IL might be a better strategy.- 86 replies

Looking at 3 Under-The-Radar Shortstop Trade Targets
mikelink45 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
And we go back to the junk pile. Picking assets from the last place team allows us to have a last place team as well. Let's fill with what we have until Martin, Lee, Lewis step in. With luck that will not be long. Correa led us to 3rd place and a 481 percentage. With KC and Detroit still in the division I suspect we can get away with a patchwork for a while.- 34 replies

Why Would the Twins Pay Anyone but Carlos Correa?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I can only point to the Angels with the two best AL players - how often have they won. Where would we have finished without Correa. Sorry I do not see a long term extravagant contract to Correa doing us any good. And I repeat - Houston let Pena play and get a 4.8 WAR as a rookie while we had Correa with 5.4 WAR. For those who like HRs both hit 22. Correa had one more AB. Pena - $700,000, Correa $35,000,000. Is .5 WAR worth .6 WAR? I agree that Houston has a better all around team, but Correa is not taking us to the playoffs and that money can be spent better in other ways. One position player does not make a team great. I know this will upset many of you who want to see the Twins spend money, but I am not one who buys into this get Correa quickly - we cannot afford to lose him. For the majority of the season he was average - then he made his salary push for the end of the season and the results? He looks better, the Twins team stunk.- 86 replies

Why Would the Twins Pay Anyone but Carlos Correa?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No! I am completely for moving on. SS remorse is ahead for a lot of teams overpaying for players who will be moved to 2B or 3B. Does Houston miss him? Pena is cheaper, younger, and doing well. We have three potential young replacements - save the money and get a really good pitcher.- 86 replies

It is always fun to see things that challenge our viewpoint. I do like the idea of Arraez at third base. I hope that celestino continues to be our bench our fielder and ready to jump in when Buxton goes back to the hospital. After watching the Houston Astros and their rookie shortstop defeat Seattle last night I have to shake my head at how much we're paying Correa.

I really enjoyed that. What a great look back and what a reminder of how hard it is to count on minor league pitchers to succeed in the majors. We're seeing some of that right now with our top prospects. I hope you will do this with some of the other years as well

One last thought. Houston believed in this young shortstop and it has paid off. For more than 40 million a year less they have filled that position. Now we need to get our young guys in that shortstop.

If you watched the playoff games last night you saw teams win with singles and multiple hits in San Diego and Cleveland. These teams wouldn't give up and didn't play for just a home run. There is a lesson there. I also saw some stolen bases, bunts and pitchers going more than one inning. We also saw some very good managers who are not tied to their computers. I love seeing the guardians who everybody has underestimated. They may not win it all, but they beat the Yankees two game so far. I hope Rocco is still watching and learning from them.

Did anyone notice that the Guardians beat the Yankees today and won a playoff game with bloop singles. Oh, wait, you have to have exit velocity to win - right? I love the way the Guardians play. Rocco - please look up from your computer and watch Francona manage.- 41 comments

2022 Twins--What Went Wrong and How to Fix It
mikelink45 commented on stringer bell's blog entry in stringer bell's Blog
I just watched MLB.com talk about Bruce Sutter who averaged almost 2 innings per relief appearance at his peak - a number of years. Starters pitching more innings, relievers pitching more innings. What a difference and not a good one. We need some new paradigms.- 41 comments

Twins Front Office Doubles Down On Process for 2023
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Okay - I like Gladden - so you do not. I question Rocco - you do not. The training staff is a scape goat - maybe they are guilty. Nothing can be proved, but at the end of the season if you read the TD posts a lot of very strong Twin followers are ready for the Vikings or some other alternatives and the attendance was down. Fun to exchange these notes, but in the long run, neither of us will change our minds.- 49 replies
