  1. Thanks - I too have less reliance on Buxton. Great power, great speed - just is not on the field enough, if he is DH his value diminishes. Batting 218 his value diminishes. I want Byron to be a top four, but he is not there now and has been only for a few stretches.
  2. So Pagan read Nick's essay and went to the mound knowing he can save the day - oops. We cannot undo the Rogers trade - I hated it, so we are stuck and have to figure out how this pen can work. It is so hard to see the team unwind from a good series and a good offensive game. I still would have left Ryan in. In the good old days (my days) they let starters figure it out and sometimes they were better at the end than the beginning. We do not have the luxury of using 5 good arms out of the pen. Maybe Duran can learn to pitch with both arms so we can keep him in for two innings - one right, one left. Days off with a days off and it is too much to ask a really good hitter to PH in the 10th???????? Come on now. The 10th inning is when BA really counts and Jeffers is batting 192. And yes, Rocco, it is okay to advance the runner to third! Ryan has to figure out how to hit again, but this is not where he should get batting practice. I have been without internet for a few days here in Alaska so I am catching up and it is fascinating to see so many repeat issues - days off, RP, short starts. I will be off and on for the next couple weeks - will anything change? I hope so.
  3. Great to see Winder, Miranda, Kiriloff doing so well. The youth of the Twins is pushing forward. We need a new SP and a couple RP to emerge, then we have to find a way to bring in Steer. I like the way the future is unfolding. Just keep Winder in the rotation!
  4. The way for Pagan to succeed is to use him in the noncrucial innings. To rely on him is a form of Russian Roulette. I appreciate your optimism Nick, but this is a hard sell.
  5. One problem for the Twins is that every team is now limiting their starters and thus relying on more RP. So the number of RP is spread out through the league and trading for them is more difficult. MLB has created its own problem. When pitchers like Spahn, Marichal, Verlander, Carlton, Morris were in the rotation the need for RP was limited and thus a team could get by with 2 - 3 quality RP. Now we have 6 starters and 7 relievers and need three - four RP per game. Math is not my strong suit, but I believe the crash is apparent. So we continue to bring up AAA and AAAA arms and expect them to be quality arms. No, there needs to be another strategy and it is not the stupid opener - it is long relief, 8 SP, three of which are there to come in and give us 3 - 4 innings at a time, a rotation of these arms like the SP rotation. Very few RP are high quality and so every team anguishes over this.
  6. I am in Alaska and get spotty coverage of both TD and the team. I really appreciate these summaries. This game fits with the batters you trust essay.
  7. Where does Miranda rank now? Like all the other posters I want Arraez first. Buxton does belong here. It's hard for me to rank 4 or 5.
  8. I am delighted to see him get some positive coverage. He has really stepped up for us Whether he is bumped by Lewis or Steer in the future he has shown he belongs in the majors.
  9. Tough loss. I know we still won the series but this is Baltimore and we should be able to score three or more runs. Tired of Wells looks like somebody who is a significant loss for the team that is in need of arms. But good for him.
  10. Winder needs to be a starter. If Archer can only go four innings he is perfect for long relief. Not sure about the other two, but why not?
  11. Along minor league rehab would be great especially if he looks really good in the rehab. Then we have some value, but not very much. It's not just twins daily readers will have seen him flail too many times.
  12. Thielbar had me nervous. It felt like s BP meltdown coming. Thank you Ryan, Arraez and Buxton. Glad to see Miranda continuing to hit.
  13. Yes he deserves it. But what about Jake Cave - does he get another chance? Where? And has anyone seen Aaron Sabato 214/34-/386?? Wallner has definitely passed this first rounder.
  14. Minnesota Nice - give your neighbors a hand, let RP use their non-dominant arms so that they can surprise everyone when they switch gloves at the end of the year. It is a wonderful thing to see.
  15. Is this wishful thinking? Right now neither side has won this trade and only in MN would we want to make it look like we did. Until Martin and Richardson make it to the big leagues it does not mean anything. Will Berrios turn things around? Let's not congratulate ourselves until we really have something to brag about.
  16. At this point, any arm that can throw strikes should be immediately put on the MLB roster. This is really getting depressing.
  17. Not sure what the response is - one thing that we found out is why they have not used Thornburg - DFA? Who is next? With Thornburg going so bad wasn't there another arm we could have tried? Archer needs to go to the pen. 4 Innings is not a SP! But he is a good long reliever.
  18. The only question I have is who has a live arm that can come up and spend the rest of the year in the Twins BP - no matter what level they are at?
  19. What an adventure in venting this thread has been. Unfortunately it is justified. When Pagan came in my response was - NO! But who do you bring in. We used our only good RP already in the game and we have a mystery man wearing Thornburg jerseys but obviously not to be used under any circumstances. I still think we should bring up healthy minor league arms and use them in the BP. Anything but another Pagan meltdown. I know we are not the only team struggling with BP , but teams seem to figure it out. How are the Yankees doing it? These are not names we all knew except for Chapman and he is out with an injury. It is desperate times and as much as everyone thinks third time through the lineup is bad, we need SP to go 7 - 9 (a complete game - never).
  20. I am not saying we dump lots of money in the BP, but I do think we can invest more and better than what we have. I also think the majority of money goes to one more starter, My post is simply the fact that I like Correa, but to think he is worth more than what we are already paying him makes no sense to me.
  21. And that is because the bullpen doesn't mean anything. Just like tonight who cares just throw any arm out there
  22. highly subjective - was it Wes? We will never know. Is he responsible for Duffey failing this year? Or Pagan imploding?
  23. If he opts out - move on. Fill the pen and one more SP. If he stays I am happy, but its not my money.
  24. No - as soon as I saw Winder in your offer it was off the table - why send our Zac Gallen and a group of prospects for their Zac Gallen? And then you throw in Balazovic. This makes no sense to me. Let's plug them into our Archer and Bundy spots for next year and move on. o
