  1. Are they preparing Balazovic to be a relief pitcher? He has not looked good in any role this year.
  2. Maybe he and Buxton can alternate at DH and take off every other day - players need their rest. Of course DH means that is wrist is on display for opposing pitchers so maybe we try to get him to switch sides at the plate. We have many options.
  3. I hope so, but so far we have not seen Winder recover either. My hope has been that Canterino or Balazovic might rise in the second half of the season.
  4. We cannot even play Buxton in the field most of the year, but we would count on Maeda to charge in and provide us with a key arm after his TJ recovery? Not me. If he does, great, but to count on that does not make sense to me. We had one short season of terrific pitching, but don't even know if he would have been good if there had been a second half to that season. Recovery from TJ surgery is not a guarantee.
  5. Good reflection - are you anticipating some moves at the trade deadline? I see plugging Kiriloff into the offense, but there is nothing in the pipeline to fix the pitching. Which means to change we have to sacrifice some of our prospects. It will be interesting, but you are right, the Twins BP is not championship caliber and Ryan and Gray are our best, but would not be equal to the best of the playoff teams. Besides the Yankees, think of the Dodgers and Astros and the lessons that they taught us. Right now the biggest concern is the rise of the Guardians - we need to take care of business in our own division to maintain our position and discussion about post season.
  6. That was fun. Pitching, clutch hitting, nicely done. Arraez again showed he is just one tough out. I will just sit back and enjoy this one. Plus we got to see Romo - they can have him.
  7. I cannot agree with the choices - especially Correa who was expected to be the greatest $35 million a year players. Jax is a nice choice, but Smeltzer is the surprise. Kepler is steady, but Celestino has given us Arraez part B. Now on the other end of the surprises - Jeffers has been putrid and Sanchez has passed him by and Duffey is the biggest let down in the arms department.
  8. I would take the first two - not Mancini - redundant. Kiriloff has that position when the Twins wake up. Castillo could really upgrade the rotation - but who do we give up? We seem to have some positions with two many bodies - can we clear the congestion and add a pitcher? If Sanchez is gone after this year we have only Jeffers. A good catcher would be a fine addition.
  9. The problem is that Buxton is primed to mostly be a DH - his value is in CF - and his DH position has helped Celestino, but blocked Kiriloff.
  10. It is time for Kiriloff - we will call him up just as he cools off.
  11. Good to have Joe back, next start hopefully he is all the way back. Good news is Celestino and Correa, Megill and Moran. That's all I can say, I did not stay up to finish the game.
  12. I do not know - but with the Twins playing so well, it is an interesting side story. Kirilloff had a position and then had an injury, last year and this one - that is just the way it goes. If there had been a Yankees Daily they would have been crying over Wally Pipp. Kiriloff looks great, but so do the players he would replace. Sorry Alex - keep hitting and your turn will come.
  13. Good bye - good luck - he truly offered nothing we need.
  14. I really enjoyed this. Nice to follow the Twins even when they are moved on. Pineda's issue is staying off the IL which he has not been able to do. Seeing Tortuga again made me smile - as usual.
  15. According to the BP chart Moran/Duffey/Thornburg and Megill are the BP arms available tonight. I hope the starter goes seven, but I doubt that Rocco would allow that on the first game back for Ryan.
  16. Love this article. Arraez is my favorite Twin - sorry Buxton. BA is something that still counts for me as well as OBP! Last night Buxton gets a HR and we get 2 runs because Arraez was on base. Love it. His bulky knees are like Oliva, his hitting is like Carew, and his positive attitude and desire to play is like Tovar. A nice combination.
  17. I was a believer in Jeffers so I am very disappointed at this time. I wonder if we spent so much time at framing that we forgot hitting and throwing. I am anxious for the automated strike system to eliminate this nonsense about framing (stealing) strikes. Somehow I think he will get his bat going enough to not be a total liability, but right now with runners on base or a good pitcher on the mound he looks completely lost.
  18. Check in after the All Star break. Glad to have good inning from him, but he is not the answer in the rotation yet.
  19. One factor that might help us hold on to Correa is that the market was full last year and many teams now have expensive SS obligations. That led to Correa going for our short term offer. Five of the top `10 prospects on MLB.com are SS. Bogaerts, Turner, Andrus, Gregorius and Swanson are all potential free agents. At some point the SS positions are filled and the big spenders are gone. Correa could fall to us again.
  20. Keep Correa another season if he wants to be here, otherwise internal options until Royce is ready.
  21. That is the difference between Minor league and major league teams. If one great hitter did it in the majors the Angels would be in the series every year instead of out of the playoffs.
  22. Ryan and Gray are the cavalry waiting to charge in and save the day. Kiriloff is the secret weapon. Put all three on the roster and start the ball rolling.
  23. I love the way that you try to give Duffey an at a boy - he starts out giving up a HR. It was not a good outing. Oh well, we won two.
  24. Good speculation, but I just cannot get excited by these options. Montas would be a great addition, but what is the subtraction? Projecting the future roster is difficult, as is anticipating injury. Gray, Ryan, Winder, Smeltzer, Archer would be nice to see if we can bring back all the parts. I do not know if that is good enough. The trade name I would be concentrating on if I were the trade partner would be Steer - this is a rising star.
  25. This rest planning is getting to me. Sorry. I remember players who played every game, but old is old. Still why would you rest two of your best on the same day. Chi Chi does not belong on the roster - a DFA is okay. Arraez is and has been my favorite player. Yes base hits count and contact counts. I love his game. (I know I am gushing). The Twins may have hit their tipping point during these series - time to start thinking about post season (just kidding).
