Turning the Tide: Twins Showing Signs of Life
LambchoP commented on Chris Hove's blog entry in Chris's Twins Blog
Alcala is quickly becoming a liability, and when Tonkin is ready to be activated I think some kind of move will be made. -
Hopefully Martin isn't out too much longer, he was hitting really well. Call up Mccusker already! Adding a big power threat to a finally healthy lineup with Buxton, Correa and Lewis could be the jolt this offense needs to take off! Why waste the roster spot on Keirsey who we see maybe once per week?

Sure looks like Mccusker, Morales and Fitzgerald are hitting well for the Saints. Still think Mccusker has earned a call up, at least a cup of coffee. It's too bad Morales is no longer a catcher because we are dangerously thin on viable MLB level catchers. If Jeffers were to get hurt we'd be in big trouble. I hope they trade for a good one at the deadline.

Edouard Julien and the Very Hard Game
LambchoP replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Even if you think his defense has improved (I don't) and you think his bat might eventually come around (I don't) he just doesn't look lig a big league player out there. Way too many errors, unforgivable mental mistakes, can't make the basic plays. He just seems to have no awareness or baseball IQ. He also always looks like he's halfway asleep out there. I think the Twins should move on. Maybe give him some time at ST Paul to see if he can put up some good numbers, then try to package him in a trade. It's pretty obvious Keaschal has surpassed him on the 2nd base depth chart already. -
As someone already said, management doesn't know what it wants to do. If we are seriously going to contend, then you go out and fill your roster holes with impact players. If we're not competing, then we should be making moves to improve the team for the near future. They've done neither. They always just sit tight, do the minimum they need to do at the cheapest cost possible and cross their fingers hoping to make a profit and sell enough tickets. Really hope we get new owners who actually want to take control of this team and win

Royce Lewis Returns: Trading the Hot Corner for DH
LambchoP replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I still think the long term IF will be Lewis at 1b Keaschal at 2b Correa at SS Lee at 3b. For this year our best defensive alignment, and probably best offensive alignment is Lewis at DH, Lee at 3rd and Castro at 2nd. At least until Keaschal is healthy. Then we might be looking to trade Castro if we can get anything in return.- 64 replies

twins Has Joe Ryan vaulted himself into ace status?
LambchoP commented on Chris Hove's blog entry in Chris's Twins Blog
If he keeps pitching like he has been he might be one of the Twins' only all stars this year. Pablo and Ryan are probably our only potential all stars so far... -
Twins need to shake things up and improve the roster. Lewis and Castro coming back will help them shed some dead weight. They should also demote Keirsey and call up Mccusker. Pitching wise, Alcala needs a reset. Replace him with Magaughen or however you spell it. He's looked good this year. Maybe Tonkin if he starts to look better. The time is now to shed these unproductive players when there are POTENTIALLY better options out there.

The Minnesota Twins are the Cleveland Guardians Lite
LambchoP replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Twins can't bunt, move runners over, hit with RISP or avoid K's in big situations. Way too many base running mistakes like automatically sending the runner at 3rd home no matter where the ball is hit. Sending runners who are slow when the batter is likely to K. Defense is a mess. Too many errors and plays not being made. For some reason our pitchers can't seem to throw the ball to first. All these things are fundamental and should be practiced daily. The players need to be better period, but also i think a lot of this has to be on Rocco for doing nothing at all to improve these mistakes. -
I think Gasper and Clemens should be dropped first. They can be replaced by Lewis and Castro. Clemens can be emergency IF bench guy. I think they should send Keirsey down and give his spot to Mccusker. See if he can keep slugging in the big leagues, at least until Wallner is back. Keirsey obviously cannot hit MLB pitching so what's the harm in giving the big man a chance?

The only prospect that was having a good season and was a potential help to the big league club was Keaschal. He looked amazing in his short debut and was really fun to watch. One pitch ended all that. Who knows when we'll see him again now. I'm afraid both Jenkins and Rodriguez are going to be just like Buxton. Pretty productive when healthy, but never on the field for more than half a season, which will greatly hurt both of their developments...

Same team, same problems year after year after year. Signing FA that are injuries waiting to happen or are past their primes hoping to get cheap value. Sticking with struggling veterans for way too long and refusing to shake up the team by calling up productive minor league prospects. No accountability whatsoever for unforgivable mental mistakes or poor defense. Refusing to change offensive approach when it is clear it's not working. Need new owners, new manager, new coaches and a roster shake up ASAP. This year looks like it should be an audition for our young guys and AAA prospects to see if any of them are long term answers and auditioning our vets for other teams at the deadline. Hopefully we can at least get some good young pieces back that can help us next year or down the road.....our prospects lists are starting to look weaker and weaker.

Culpeper and Gonzalez are hitting really well this year. Hopefully Beltre can develop into a true HR hitter for us. Been awhile since we've had a true 30 HR a year threat in our lineup. Hopefully Dasan Hill doesn't have anything too serious. Him and Prelipp could be a nasty 1-2 lefty combo..... Still waiting on a Mccusker call up.....Any news on Eeles yet? Jenkins? Are these guys still alive at this point?

Does anyone know if Jefferson Morales or Ricardo Olivar are actually catching this year? It is well known that next year after Vasquez is gone we need a backup catcher to pair with Jeffers. It's really looking like Camargo and Cartaya are NOT going to cut it. Morales and Oliver are hitting well, I'm just not sure where they stand defensively. Pitching wise, Raya sure looks like a mess this year. I was always a bit skeptical of his high prospect ratings. Seems to have trouble with consistency and control. Travis Adams looks great so far. Has he being used as a reliever? Alcala needs to be taken off the MLB roster at least for now, maybe Adams could take his place in the pen? Funderburk and Tonkin sure don't look like they're ready for big league hitters. I was hoping Prelipp would have dominated early and got a chance to pitch in the big league pen. There's still a chance with how bad our big league relievers have been, but he's not exactly pushing the issue and with his injury history the team probably won't rush him up the ladder.

Julien is not a major league player, the guy has zero baseball IQ. Way too many mental mistakes, horrible defense. His only skill, his hitting, has disappeared. He's hitting under .200. send him down. Wait, we can't, we have nobody that can replace him. We need Lewis back ASAP to play third, Lee at second. Then we need Castro back as bench guy because Julien, Bride and Clemens are nothing but warm bodies. As far as Alcala I know he's out of options, but would any team even claim him off waivers at this point? I say try to send him down, if we lose him so what. Opens up a roster spot for someone else. Funderburk and Tonkin have been rocked so far. Too bad we let Blewitt go. Maybe give someone like Morris, or Raya a shot pitching in the pen. Might be useful having someone who can go multiple innings for when Paddack and SWR are pulled in the 4rth or 5th inning every time they start....

Louis Varland Has a Meatball Problem
LambchoP replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Both Varland and Alcala have great stuff, specifically their fastballs, they just can't seem to locate well enough hence the hard hit rate and home runs. You can't teach control and command. You either have it or you don't. Varland still has potential as we've seen from some of his dominant outings. Alcala has no business being on a major league mound and I don't understand why they haven't tried to clear waivers and send him down or DFA him completely. There has to be a better option. It's a shame we have up on Blewitt, he was doing great for us. Tonkin has been getting rocked in his minors rehab.....so much for best pen in baseball lol. Not even top half from what I've seen so far :( -
Twins upper minor league talent is very lacking. Trading some veterans this year for upper level guys would be a good way to replenish some AAA depth. Everyone knows we need offense, guys who can hit. We also are desperately in need of one or two viable catchers that we can pair with Jeffers next year. We've also seen how horrible our infield has become with injuries, having to start guys like Julien, Bride and Clemens.... We're not going to compete this year. I say play potential trade tickets like France, Bader, Julien, Miranda and pitchers such as Paddack, SWR, and maybe one of our top 3 starters. Relievers like Coloumbe, Varland or Sands. All these guys should be able to bring something of value back if they play well enough. Use the rest of the season to show off available trade options and audition young talent for next year. See what we have in Zebby, Festa, and Morris. Give Mccusker a shot. See if Olivar can stick as a catcher.

Twins Minor League Hitter of the Month: March/April 2025
LambchoP replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I say give Mccusker a shot, at least until Wallner comes back. I understand they like having Keirsey as a pinch runner and defensive sub, but it's becoming clear he probably can't hit big league pitching. Of course, the infield is more of a concern right now with guys like Gasper, Clemens, Bride and Vasquez all getting starts and all struggling to hit .200 :(- 8 replies

Twins Daily Pitcher of the Month - March/April 2025
LambchoP replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It's too bad we are wasting such good starting pitching by our bullpen blowing games a few times a week and our horrendous offense not hitting or scoring. Hopefully getting some of our starters back will help the offense because a lineup including more than one of Gasper, Keirsey, Clemens and Vasquez is obviously not going to cut it. Looks like a spring training lineup :(- 4 replies

Twins Minor League Report (4/30): A Clean Sweep
LambchoP replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Fitzgerald sure seems to be hitting well. He is the starting SS for the Saints if I'm not mistaken. Looks like one of the only AAA position players along with Mccusker who might help the Twins' pathetic offense. Of course neither of these guys are on the 40 man, but I really don't think guys like Gasper, Keirsey or Clemens have done anything to warrant a 40 man roster spot other than a lack of better options because of injuries :(- 10 replies

What did Rocco expect with a lineup including Gasper (leading off BTW?!) Clemens and Keirsey? Three guys that have no business starting anywhere on the field. Injuries are turning this team into a minor league team that has 1/3 to half a lineup struggling to hit .200. very boring games to watch as well ....

Brooks Lee Is Back To Being Brooks Lee
LambchoP replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
While Lee may never be a true super star we always hope for, I can see him being a very defensively sound 2b, 3rd baseman who can occasionally fill in at shortstop. Offensively he might not hit for a ton of power but could hit .240-.270 with 10-15 HR in a full season. Wouldn't be the worst numbers for a second baseman. I just wonder how it all plays out when Keaschal is back. My guess is long term should probably be 1b - Lewis 2b - Keaschal SS - Correa 3b - Lee Castro, Julien, Miranda fighting it out for backup IF at bats. -
I wish we'd get some kind of update on Eeles. It's like the guy doesn't even really exist lol .....
