So far Dobnak has looked better than Paddack. Glad Lee is on a rehab assignment, if he's healthy and can start hitting he should be an immediate replacement for Julien or Gasper. If Zebby has another strong outing today I would seriously consider calling him up too.

Week in Review: Falling Short
LambchoP replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What's most worrying is that it's not one thing, it's everything. The pitching, the offense, the little league defense. I'd give Paddack one more start, if he can't throw a quality start then demote him to long man in the pen and call up Zebby. Gasper and Julien need to go. Not sure what's up with Brock Stewart, I thought he was still throwing even when placed on the IL, why isn't he on a rehab assignment? At least Lee is playing again, even though he went 0-3 with 2 strikeouts against A ball pitching:(. Team needs to figure things out, and quick ..- 11 replies

Think it's safe to say Castro doesn't belong at third. I get that Rocco is obsessed with utility guys, but he should be playing second or left field, otherwise he's a liability. With Julien and France already defensive liabilities on the right side, we can't afford it. I say give Paddack one more start. If he can't get through the fifth inning then send him to the pen as long man and call up Zebby. Our pen cannot pitch more than half the game every day. Hopefully we can get some wins in KC otherwise we're quickly going to find ourselves in a hole we can't get out of. Glad to hear Lee is on a rehab assignment. Hopefully he hits well and can replace Julien on the MLB roster.

He seems pretty cocky for a guy in his 20's who can't play even half a season without pulling or straining something. Don't get me wrong, Lewis can have MVP type stretches that can really help this team. I just think we have to accept him for what he is. A very good player with great power, who will most likely play 60-80 games per year.

The whole team looks to have no confidence. No fire or passion either. It is way too early for most of our guys to be "just going through the motions". At least Buxton and Bader seems to be trying to light a fire and wake everyone up. Correa figuring things out at the plate would really help. Getting Lewis back should Inject some passion as well, but the fact we still don't have an update on him or a timeline worries me that it might be long term like last year. Yesterday's win was nice, but we've got to find a way to wake up and string some quality games together before we dig ourselves a hole we can't get out of.

Is Ed Julien Ready To Rule Again?
LambchoP replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not too high on Julien I think when Lee is activated Julien should go to St Paul and try to get his swing going. He's also an absolute butcher at second base so he's really going to need to hit well to justify a roster spot. Too early to give up on him, but I'm not optimistic. -
Just really good seeing Jenkins and Prelipp healthy and playing games. Dasan Hill looks like he has the stuff of a future ace. Hopefully we keep him healthier than some of our other prospects. Between him and Prelipp we might have a new age Santana Liriano in our future rotation ;). At the very least they could end up relief weapons, maybe closers.

Twins 6, Astros 1: Twins Get Their First Win at Home
LambchoP replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great to get a win at home, but saw some concerning trends. Our starters need to be more efficient and get deeper in games. If Varland, Dobnak or Mcgaughan have to come in during the fifth inning so often, our pen is going to be taxed way too early. The low velo from Ryan and Ober doesn't bother me too much unless it continues for much longer. Could just be the cold weather. Our offense is what troubles me. Correa has what, two hits? And they were both grounders. He needs to get going and quick. Even in our wins, we only had one inning where we score more than a run at a time. At least it's good to see Buck looking like his old self. If he can stay on the field he may swipe 20 bags this year :)- 23 replies

Correa is my biggest worry. He has a history of slow starts sure, but between spring and this season so far, he's got like 3 hits in like a month and a half. What's more concerning is every time he makes contact it's seemingly a grounder to SS. While it's good he's not striking out a lot, he's got to get the ball in the air more. I sure hope he can get things going because without a productive Correa we are doomed.

As others have said, the team just looks "dead". No fire, no fight. Guys aren't having fun or playing loose. It sure looks like they're just going through the motions. If they get bad results, oh well, no biggy, jog back to the bench. No consequences. Bader seems like someone who is trying to ignite some life into the team. Buck can do this too when he's going good. I really think the lineup is going to need a shake up at the deadline if we're still in the race. If not, the off-season. We going to need a real first baseman. Luke Keaschal should take over second as soon as he's able to play the field everyday. We also need a catcher that can hit. I love all this pitching depth, but we're going to have to give up something to get some offensive pop unless new ownership goes out and signs and impact player or two.

Both Dobnak and Mccaghan have looked good in their long relief roles. My guess is the Twins will rotate the two of them back and forth as long men. At least until Stewart comes back. When that happens I could see Varland getting sent to AAA rather than our long man. The way the season has started, looks like we really need a guy in the pen that can give us length and Varland has looked way too hittable so far
-
The balk and then bringing the infield in cost us two runs. Not that it matters if your lineup can't score runs. I am worried about Correa. Didn't hit all spring and now he's 2-25? Seems like every at bat is a ground out to SS. He needs to get going, like Buck. It was nice to see him get some hits and even steal a base. Pitching wise we look ok. Other than Varland our pen has been decent. I'm not sold on Louie. A guy with that kind of velo shouldn't be getting hit so hard. Problem is I think his fastball is flat. Plus, he doesn't have any good secondary pitches, so hitters can just sit on the heater. He needs to get the curve or slider to work otherwise I fear he won't last.

This is the Worst Version of José Miranda
LambchoP replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
To me it looks like Miranda is maybe pressing, trying to hard to earn a lineup spot. He needs to be much more selective at the plate. Unless he absolutely breaks out this year, I don't see him being a part of our long term plans. Not with Lewis and Lee returning from injury. I was thinking if Miranda can up his value a bit by the trade deadline we package him and a young starter, maybe Raya for some offensive help. First baseman maybe, if France doesn't come around. Sounds like MountCastle is available. Not sure if he's a straight rental or has control remaining?- 24 replies

Everyone in twins territory knows we need new owners. I was hoping the sale would go through early this year so that if we need a few pieces at the trade deadline, new ownership could ok a bit of a splash to get fans on their side. Looks like that won't be happening. There's always next year right? Vlad is looking for a new team lol ....

St Paul starters are looking great so far. Festa, Mathews, Morris and Lewis. Nice to finally have some pitching depth. Who is this Morales guy? Saw him racking up hits in ST. Think he's a Castro type guy in the field playing multiple IF spots and corner OF spots. I wonder if he'll be a call up option when we need an infielder and Keaschal isn't available?

Bader better not be on the bench today. Rocco being Rocco though, I wouldn't be surprised.

Really hoping for a healthy and full season from Jenkins. I'm not worried about the power. If he continues to hit well and rack up doubles, I'm sure the home runs will come too. He's still super young, just needs to play. Same with Prelipp. He reminds me of Canterino. Might have some of the best stuff in our system but hasn't been able to pitch enough. If he can stay healthy all year and continue racking up the strikeouts, he could be another solid weapon in our pen. Left handed too!

Correa has been very disappointing at the plate. Sure, he's hot some balls hard but literally everything is on the ground right to the SS or 2nd baseman. I think he might lead the league in double plays if he can't get the ball in the air. He's got to figure this out, we can't have a guy hitting like this getting a 37 million dollar salary on a penny pinching team. If I remember right, he's usually kind of a slow starter, just never to this extent. Maybe he should try the new torpedo bat trend! Hopefully he gets a few hits back at home if not before, it's not like we can send him to AAA like we did with Wallner last year :(
-
Hopefully Mercedes can hit like he did last year. Would be nice to have a speedy .300 hitting OF who is also a base stealing threat. Basically what Buxton was supposed to be early on his career.

It was only one start and he'll have to keep getting these results, but Zebby sure seems ready to take the next step. Now hitting 99 mph with his control sounds deadly. If Paddack continues to struggle and Mathews keeps this up, maybe they send Paddack to the pen as the long man and get Zebby up in the rotation a month or so from now.

I think what's most concerning is we've had to call up and use long relievers because of starters blow ups twice now within the first 4 games. Donna now Mcgaughan. What's next, do they call up Morris or Festa for a few days to pitch 5 innings after SWR or even Lopez gets knocked out of the game in the third inning?

I think Winokur and Soto are the most promising and most fun to watch develop this year. Can Soto put together a full healthy season of good numbers and possibly make his AA debut this year? Can Winokur stick at short since we're going to need an MLB caliber SS soon? It's also an important season for Gabby Gonzalez. Hopefully last year was a fluke and he can put together a good solid year and put up some offensive numbers. Aside from whatever we get from Topa this year, Gonzalez is our last chance to get something out of the Polanco trade. It's looking like it might be more fun following the minor league teams rather than the MLB club this year 😂

The way they've played so far, I'm not so sure the Twins could beat the Saints right now lol. If we go into our home opener 0-6 it would be funny if nobody went to the game Thursday in protest of the crappy play so far. Won't happen, but it would be a strong message to ownership. Their time is up, move on and sell the team to somebody who cares!
