Given I was in Minnesota and went to Target Field to catch one of the Twins 9 wins since the All Star break I'd like to claim some credit for the 9-2 run (I was there for 10 of those games). 😀 I also recall saying a few weeks ago July presented an opportunity to go on a good run due to the schedule. So far so good. Last 2 games have really shown a difference in the Twins mindset since the All Star break. 2 wins where I really wouldn't see us winning a few weeks ago. Kepler looks like something of his 2019 self again and AK is tearing the cover off the ball. Moving Correa to lead off and having 3 lefties in the 2-4 positions against RHP seems to have done the trick. Very pleased that Lopez pitched an excellent inning last night too. Facing the heart of their batting order with a runner on second I wasn't convinced he wouldn't at least allow the runner on 2nd to score but he did a great job, inducing weak contact from all 3 batters he faced.

I'm glad they didn't try to be clever and just selected the one "top 5" prospect that remained. Every expert said there was a clear gap between the top 5 and the rest so I was relieved to see the Twins drafted Jenkins.

The Baltimore hitters are showing the Twins hitters how it's done. Even with the high strikeouts, they had some good bats and pushed Ryan's pitch count high and got him out of the game in the 5th inning. Even when they struck out the count was 2-2 or 3-2 most of the time. I think new hitting coaches are needed TBH. Nothing has really changed - a few good games with the bat (mainly against awful KC pitching) and now back to this garbage again.

Our record against teams over .500 is 22-27. 6 of those losses came against a red hot Braves team and the Rays. The two best teams in baseball and both series on the road. So that's 22-21 against the Yankees, Astros, Orioles, Blue Jays, Red Sox, Angels. Marlins, Dodgers, Giants and Brewers. Plus we won the home series against the Padres. I don't think we've done badly against the better teams. The simple fact is these teams will punish you if you don't score runs. But we don't need to change our whole approach to playing these sides.

Brilliant from Lopez! 2nd in the AL in K's now, only behind Gausman. I know Arraez is chasing .400 but I still think we won the trade, especially as we've extended Lopez. If Arraez could hit for power, or had elite defense it would be different. He's an exceptional hitter with a great eye but he may well end up being a full time DH sooner rather than later. Lopez, while being a little inconsistent in his first year with the Twins, has shown he can pitch like an ace.

I know the Twins have struggled to score runs but I'm actually quite happy with our 44-43 record. The May and June schedules were brutal. We've held our own against most of the better teams - and even when we got swept against the Braves and Rays we had opportunities to win. July looks a lot more friendly with 2 series v KC, and we've got the A's after the All Star break. And the Mariners and White Sox are inconsistent so we could have a really strong month.

I really hope we have the pre TJ surgery version of Maeda back because he will be a real asset in the 2nd half of the season. He looked really sharp and his fastball reached 92mph - very encouraging. Great to see Lopez back with the team and in a good place. Very rusty when he came in but that was to be expected. Nice management from Rocco to get him in the game at the end. Buck is really hitting the cover off the ball - no K's today and his out nearly took the 3B's hand off. Oh, and congrats to C4 on 1000 hits.

All evidence suggests his BA and OPS will only go in one direction now. He'll still have ups and downs but I get the feeling things have started to click in the last couple of weeks.

Even when he's got a 5 run lead Pagan can't do the job properly. Jax had to start warming up again which really should have been avoided. Need to trade for some bullpen help ASAP with Stewart and Thielbar on the IL and Lopez struggling. Still, a win is a win and a 4 hit game for Correa.

I think it's a bit harsh to say the offence went back to sleep. If Hays hadn't made that astonishing catch off Buxton's line drive that inning was set up for 2 or more runs to score. We had plenty of good at bats in the first 5 innings, just didn't get any breaks. Ober was incredible. And Kepler's catch was amazing, particularly in the circumstances. Not entirely sure if that ball would have landed fair or foul but he may well have saved the game there. Baltimore are a very good team so any series win against them is a very good one. A sweep would be amazing, particularly after a tough series in Atlanta.

So it turns out the solution to our hitting problems was to simply move Correa to the lead off spot. Going 2-4 and scoring 2 runs is certainly good lead off numbers! Gallo's starting to hit HR's again - could be threatening a streak like he had at the start of the season.

Twins 6, Tigers 3: The Twins Win in 10, Piranha Style!
UK Twin replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great to see Jax back to his dominant best. I think his ERA went above 5 when he had his bad streak so getting it back to 3.18 so quickly shows how good he's been lately and why Rocco went to him in the 9th to keep the game tied. Takes the pressure off Duran as well - don't want him to keep having to pitch 2 innings like he has done in these situations. Having said that, adding a reliever or even two via trade is an absolute must for the Twins. Chapman as a hard throwing lefty would be ideal.- 32 replies

Well that was fun! First of all I'm going to assume the pinch hitting changes were pre-planned before the game so Julien and AK were aware. Ryan - best start of his MLB career. Just in total control all game. Saved the bullpen as well which is important. And boy did Buck CRUSH those pitches. Pretty cool to be be the first to hit 2 460+ bombs in one game in the Statcast era.

Another day, another clutch hit from Correa. Love the fact he drove the ball to the opposite field. Great job from Ober after a couple of shaky innings. Hardly any base runners from the 3rd inning onwards. Now a 4 game set against a slumping Detroit. Have to cash in with at least 3 wins while Cleveland have SD and Arizona. Twins getting healthier, Correa's bat heating up in a hurry, what have you got Cleveland?

Twins 7, Brewers 5: A Twins Win to Remember!
UK Twin replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
For all those batting average enthusiasts: Correa only went a mediocre 1-5. Somewhat disappointing for a superstar. 🤣 For everyone else, he's hit 2 HR's and 2 doubles in his last 3 games while driving in 8 with 2 massive clutch hits. 😆 Fantastic win, such a good way to shake off a bad loss on Sunday. Really impressive to make such a good reliever like Williams look like Pagan. Taylor has already hit more homers than he did last season! We've got to look at extending him - he's been a great addition and his power is an unexpected bonus.- 51 replies

There's something about Toronto that the Twins really like - they've got a great record at that ball park. I really dislike bullpen games - too many stoppages and pitching changes - so I was thrilled when the Twins blew theirs up in the 8th inning. This is where batting average means nothing. Correa "only" went 1-5 today but when that one hit is a go ahead grand slam in the 8th who cares about the other 4 at bats. That inning was really nicely constructed as well. A perfect bunt by Taylor followed by a really good at bat from Julien where he was rewarded with a busted bat single (finally, some justice after the hard hit balls that resulted in outs). Then Solano cracked a single then the dreaded bases loaded situation. AK struck out and the fear of getting nothing yet again grew. Then Correa took one right down the middle and I thought he'd missed his pitch there. Thankfully he came through big time and Kepler made it a stress free end to the game. I'm glad Richards is a reliever because the at bats the Twins had against him were truly horrendous (apart from Julien who was the only one able to lay off the changeup below the zone). After being swept by the Rays we needed to take 2 from this series and we've done that with a chance to sweep tomorrow. Everyone should be confident going into it as well after two really good wins.

Nice win. Blue Jays did what the Twins usually do and fail to drive in runs with RISP. There were a lot more opportunities to lose that game than win it so a real nice game to win and hopefully will give everyone a boost. Twins aren't getting a lot of breaks with hard hit balls. That DP in Tampa was a kick in the guts and Chapman made a great catch off a Farmer line drive which seemed destined to get into the corner. Duran picked his team up just when we needed him to. Not his sharpest outing but did the job.

Defense. Kepler is a much more accomplished OF than those two. And I don't think either Wallner or Larnach are good enough hitters to justify them being in the line up every day ahead of Kepler.

Duran is a monster. He throws 25 pitches and still cranks it up to 104.6! When was the last time he gave up a run? Twins need to be aggressive in the reliever trade market. There will be plenty of options and you can't have enough bullpen arms. Anyway, turning into a good week for the Twins. 4 wins out of 5 and with Gray and Ryan on the mound Saturday and Sunday a decent chance of a series win.

I know Pagan isn't exactly well liked but he's had more good outings than bad this year. It's just the bad one's have been horrendously bad. But he did a good job last night and saved at least one more arm by going 2+ innings. Nice clean inning for Jax as well.

Nice to do to Cleveland what they did to us so many times last season. Nice win. Hopefully Buck is just bruised from where the pitch hit him.
